fandoms are obsessed with giving children to characters who would HATE being parents
it's strange to think that if it weren't for diseases and horrible itchy immune reactions, I would probably have a radically different attitude toward ticks and mosquitoes
"how wonderful that they only take a drop of life from another and then leave, rather than snuffing it out in its entirety like so much of the animal kingdom does. by all means, take your microliter of blood; I have plenty to spare," rather than "die die die fuck off and die forever"
spring birdwatching so far is I'll be tracking a warbler around trying to get one sufficient identifiable shot through five layers of greenery while it flits off to a new position every second, and then a kingbird will land on a bare branch in a wide-open space nearby and be like "make sure you get my good side :) just kidding, they're all good sides"
google becoming increasingly useless as a search engine
using your city as a personality trait is such a funny phenomenon thats only allowed when you're from like 5 super well known american cities. imagine if like.. a polish person was like thats how we do it in kędzierzyn koźle
you know that excitement when you realize you're in a location from a famous song. this is how i feel right now
the cheetahs and dwarf mongeese can see into each other's zoo enclosures
Something I only learned last year, which should be far more common knowledge, is that there is an American native lotus. It's lovely, it's tough, and it's an indigenous food source, and yet no one seems to know about it. I learned about it accidentally on a YouTube foraging channel. Pretty sure it was Feral Foraging; check him out, I like him. Anyway, yeah!

Like, what the fuck, that's awesome. And since I have a pond, and it desperately needs plants, I obviously immediately went and found me some seeds (got mine on Etsy).
The instructions that came with the seeds say you need to scarify them--that is, to scratch or break the seed coat to permit germination. They suggested a Dremel or a fucking belt sander. And that sounded extreme, but hey, I have a Foredom tool, which is a Dremel's big daddy, so surely this will be no problem!
Guys. They were not kidding.
Each tiny white patch on a seed on the left is a result of significant time power sanding this rock-like seed coating. I now fully understand how these can lie dormant for decades before germinating. I had to take a break. I may have to take more breaks. Damn, dude.
But it's worth it!
Red's already got the technique but for anyone else: make sure you're sanding the sides of the seed, not the pointed end. Don't damage that bit!

I've joked about changeable midwestern weather, but "high of 70F around lunch, possible tornadoes in the afternoon, snow in the evening" is one of the weirder forecasts I've seen
the downside of accomplishing some minimal amount of cardiovascular activity on a regular basis is that I now have the ability to sprint for short distances, and am impatient enough to be using this new skill at unusual or inappropriate times

“Every Pokemon is someone’s favourite” I’m making a spreadsheet to see if this is true. Reblog with your favourite Pokemon in the tags.
Here’s the spreadsheet in-progress
Ok, mother of GOD that's a lot of responses and I am but one man with Excel. I'll update these ASAP but also some rules:
A Pokemon only counts for itself, not its evolution line.
A Pokemon with multiple forms (like Zygarde) will only be counted for the specified form. A Pokemon with multiple appearances (like Spinda, Vivillon, Sylvally, etc.) count for all their appearances.
I'm literally doing this as a testament to my own depression that not everyone is lovable, so add that to the weight of this post's meaning.
