with poseidon’s consciousness tucked away from their own, they have little indication of the complexity of who they are, and what they are, and that has only really served to add more confusion and questions. when, or even if, the barrier between the immortal poseidon and the mortal nemuel is broken down, they will be able to harness the ability to have heightened clarity & physical abilities during storms, a closer emotional connection with equestrians & aquatic animals. until that day, as the god of the seas, horses, storms, & earthquakes, nemuel continues to unknowingly influence the world and be influenced by, the immortal being within them, manifesting in communicative abilities with equestrians & aquatic animals, underwater breathing, and heightened strength & emotions during storms.  »

« in the mean time, nemuel is cismale using he/him to define themselves, and is thirty five years old. life goes on for them as most everyone else’s does; working at the trojan horse ranch as a co-owner, and if he can’t be found there, he can usually be found at neptune bay, doing some boating. they are originally from brisbane, australia and they now live in hesperides villas @ the trojan horse ranch + with their grey appaloosa stallion (yue), white paso fino stallion (pegasus), and liver chestnut morgan horse stallion (truffle). to date, nemuel has been on magnetic island for ten years.  »

“oh,  well,  ten  points  to  me  then,”  they  grinned,  nodding  along  with  a  bright  smile,  “yup,  ‘estella’  means  ‘star’  in  a  handful  of  languages,  actually.  which  i  think  is  excellent,  personally,”  she’s  loved  the  night  since  she  could  remember,  and  even  before  that,  she’s  sure…  somehow.  “you  and  i  are  cut  from  the  same  cloth,  as  my  ma’  would  say.    always  busy,  always  hustling  but  somehow  loving  it  at  the  same  time.      and  close  to  the  same,  really  busy  but  happy  about  it,  i’m  picking  up  some  more  clients  to  my  yoga  classes.      you  have  to  make  time  for  yourself  though,”  estella  added,  raising  her  eyebrows,  “can’t  give  your  horses  your  all  if  you’re  only  running  on  half-full.”

   “a gold star indeed well earned,” nem nodded with a laugh. and so duly named - nem could be almost jealous. his own name had no fun meaning, something relatable to him, like estella && yue could share. “mine means sleeping god. i was destined to be lazy, and on a pedestal,” he joked further, but in reality, estella couldn’t have been more on the nose in her assessment of their mutual work ethics. “gotta love what you do, right, mate? it’s the only way to make it all work out,” a bit of guidance, sprinkled in, words of wisdom from the horse whisperer himself. “you make a good point. say, i may keep ‘ya around, you can remind me every few weeks to pencil in a day off. we’ll be accountability buddies. what is it they say, the kids these days - treat yo self?”

spill the tea! have you ever thought about doing something other than the ownership of the horse ranch? what is it?

“when i was five, i said i was going to be the best surfer on the planet. does that count?” nemu chuckled, but then took a moment to consider the question. “i’ve always wanted to do something closely related to horses, and the care of them. it wasn’t exactly trojan ranch, in specific, that i wanted ownership of. that dream sort of occurred & came true all pretty quickly, but yeah... yeah, i definitely always knew it would be equestrian in nature. i wouldn’t mind doing something related to aquatic life preservation && education, but i’m way too busy at the moment. maybe if i retired, mate.”

it took her a moment to realise who it was, and immediately her face transforms into a smile —- with a hint of coyness, it seemed to come to the surface whenever they were around him.   SOMETIMES even a slight pinkness in their cheeks.   it wasn’t an ODD reaction for her — calista had always been rather flirty, but it felt a little… more innate around nemuel.

     “why yes she is, nemu.   her name is NYNAEVIA.   and no, you didn’t scare me,” she grinned, crosslegged on her picnic rug —-  “but they’re flighty by nature, so it’s not exactly a shock…    hence the long, long leash.  or on my shoulder on SHORTER leash, for around town,” she often has ny on her shoulder when she’s running errands about the island.    “do you want to try and feed her?” she offered.

    the ghost of a smile that seemed to appear upon her realization was a strange stirring in him - nemuel told himself she was attractive, that was all; attractive, extremely good with horses, and extremely interesting. what more could there be? it was only a few months ago, the two had met - so his smile grew in response, paying no more thought to the draw he felt towards her, the pull that dawned on him at such strange times, and seemed to ebb and flow. 

      “nynaevia-” nemuel repeated with a slow nod, the name unfamiliar, but very sweet, and nodded at the offer, eager to come closer and get a better introduction to the animal. he loved all critters deep at heart, and though he tended to prefer power & strength in his own choice of companion, the small ones were always fun. “i think i love her,” he stated, nearing calista & the pygmy possum, heart melting for the little thing. “i guess she stays home when you make a trip to the ranch, huh? makes sense. can’t believe i haven’t gotten to meet her yet... what other secrets do you have tucked away?”

     “takes one to know one,” he winked in response, still wearing that shit-eating grin that seemed to so easily fall into place around the singer. to nemuel, she was the personification of what he enjoyed of spring, the little he knew of it - chipper, bright, like a kid little sister he never knew he wanted. of course he had to give her a hard time any chance she got - and nemu would happily kick the ass of any dumbass who decided to hurt her, too. after giving her a quick thanks for the reduction, and placing his order with the co-worker at the station now, nemuel turned back to rue. “i’ll hold ya on that, mate. what’re you up to on your day off?”

he never really tried drawing a person before. well doodles mainly. but to actually put in some effort… he might be good at it? “well i usually only draw landscapes and animals. i mean— i could try a person. what are we talking about? like— nude modeling? i’m completely down for.” he joked. “or are you trying to look like fabio on a romance novel? i mean— you have the hair for it. could put you on one of the horses and look like a dashing rouge or even go to the beach and make you like— a sexy pirate or something. how about a merman?” he rambled.

     surprised to have been taken seriously on any level, his eyebrows shot upwards in amusement as the options multiplied before him. “stuck between requesting you draw me as a narwhal or straight up jack sparrow. how about both?” nemuel challenged, the amusement still tugging on his lips, and his curiosity pressing him to see just where the limits of romil’s creativity truly lie. “honestly, you’re the one who strikes me as the classic fabio type.”

Her eyes narrow in on him, but it’s all in good humor. Typically she would be more suspicious but Mysha knew that Nemuel genuinely cared about his horses. “Have you ever been around a group of hungry koalas? They’re not as cuddly as you think.” Despite the fact animals just seemed to more or less behave around her there were still more temperamental species she didn’t mind getting away from every once and awhile. “Your tricks might work on other riders but not me.  I can smell bullshit from a mile away Nem. Keep up.” She laughs lightly, already rolling her sleeves up to prepare. “Fine, fair enough. But you’ll have to come by the zoo then. How’s tomorrow? I’m thinking you can pick up waste at the lion exhibit.” Mysha looks at him suggestively but once again her words are said in jest.

    “I... don’t entirely think that comes out as a fair trade-off. Ponies are cute, and sweet, and love being groomed. Lions are awesome, but their waste, less so,” Nemuel kept the banter going, an eyebrow raising as if in offense she’d even try her hand with the shot in the dark. Though, a visit to the zoo was certainly something Nem was down to be talked into, easily. “But tomorrow, expect me no later than noon. I’ve meaning to make a trip out, anyway... I’d had some ideas about dolphins, and I wanted to get a look at the grounds to better flesh it out.”

For as old as the man was, probably early to mid-thirties by Harrison’s estimate, he sure knew how to make a reference that Harrison’s zoomer ass would understand. However Harrison relented his tongue and kept the action going.

Before he knew it, the man was backpedaling, his head reeling from the peppered strikes thrown by the younger Harrison. After a couple minutes of dancing around the ring, the man made a ‘T-shape’ with his hands signaling that he needed a time out. “Wow, already?” Harrison asked with a cocky tone, “did I wear you out that quickly, old man?”

The man said it was an off day for him, but Harrison knew better and figured he would have fun with that fact. “Yeah me too,” he nodded in agreement, “but at least I’m still coordinated on an off day.” He chuckled as he patted the man on the back. “That was quite an introduction, I’m Harrison. Harrison Moon.”

      Though his brow furrowed at the obvious lie from the kid - an off day, as if - Nemuel gave little more than a small grunt of acknowledge until after taking another long drink of water. At this point, he didn’t care to salvage up pride by taking small sips. “Nem.” He mumbled out in response, but gave a less hostile glance to Harrison now. “You’d like my girl. Her name is Yue, which is Moon, too, but in mandarin.” 

   He forgot to remember that he should clarify that his girl, meant his horse. “Are you a boxer, or somethin’? I’m just saying, usually this goes the other way ‘round for me, so obviously you got something up on me. Spill the tea, then.”

   “- woow, and here i thought we were friends,” nemuel couldn’t help but tease her, eyebrows raised high in faux offense. the opportunity was too good, and too easy, to pass up the chance to give rue a hard time. after all; the pair played around in their garage band together, and in his mind, rue was basically of kin to an adopted sister to him. “what’s the point of this whole thing at all if i can’t get special juice bar perks on your day off? who else could i trust to make my kombucha?”

“I’m game. We hop on your boat, just keep sailing where the sun is.” It was a nonsensical, impossible dream that only Nemuel could inspire. There was something so right about being here at the stables or on the ship together. It was more than just Nem being in his ‘element’, it was as if her friend was completely at peace.

She wondered what that would feel like. If she would ever know it.

But just as quickly as her thoughts continued onward and upwards into la-la land, she cut the string short. Better to lose the balloon then be carried away.

“To be fair, I’m usually working. But you know when I’m not playing firefighter, I’m always down.” It shouldn’t have to be said, not with Nemuel. But sometimes she got the feeling that Nemuel appreciated verbal reassurance too.

    “Exactly,” Nemuel breathed out, still in a jovial, half-teasing matter... but somewhere, deep down, he thought that would always be his ‘ impossible dream ‘. The call of the sea, the craving to be out on the water, of shores unknown; but he’d miss his horses. 

    But they were situated in reality, and Sarah’s nod back to it was enough to anchor Nem, too. They were a keen pair, in that sense; both with strong work ethics, a drive towards success, and a sense of duty that lingered above all hunger for adventure- of peace. He nodded, understanding. “Sometime soon, then,” He hummed out, but his gaze stayed a moment longer, hesitating on Sarah as if there was something unsaid. 

   “Hey, I always wondered, actually. How’d you get into that, anyway? Firefighting on an island surrounded by... you know, water, like was that always the dream?”

they packed a picnic, on IMPULSE that evening, and had nynaevia with her, now that the sun hat set she was waking up, soon to hunt for some tasty flowers and seeds (on a long, long leash, fearing her darling pet might get spooked and cali would lose her; but with a great deal of leeway to roam…)      and calista was now sitting on a picnic blanket facing the ocean and the wide skyline, picking at her sandwiches and feeding nynaevia some seed mix by dim solar-lamplight, JUST AFTER 7PM.      though, it was uncanny how she had been fearing something would startle her pet —-  because through the brush came a person, the sound of their feet and snapping twigs causing the pygmy possum to dart to the shadowy bushes, but could not go further because of the leash.  blonde head whipped away from the person to the bush, spotting with a keen gaze the flash of nynaevia’s eyes in the din, watching intently —- “come on, girl… it’s okay, here,” she held out a flowering banksia; filled with the heavy scent and presence of pollen —-  “come on…” she coaxed, and it was only half a minute before she came skittering out to grasp the flower and start to feast on the snack.   calista patted her head softly, “that’s better,” then turned her gaze back to see the passerby had PAUSED —-  “she’s a pygmy possum, if that’s what your wondering,” she offered, taking a bite from her sandwich.

    though most days, nemu was kept tied down at the ranch, tending to the stables, guests, & many equestrian inhabitants that boarded && lived at the trojan horse ranch - some days, he was given the rare opportunity to truly indulge. even then, most days off you could catch him soaking up every ray the sun had to offer; hitting the waves, strumming his guitar on the sandy shores, collecting shells- yet, no, today the hiking boots had been laced up && nemuel was fighting mosquitos rather than the surf. as he pressed on through a particular patch of brush, nearly asended onto the ruins, his chosen destination; a sight unfolding before him was enough to give him pause. of course, cali, he knew - every face that found themselves with a smile at the horse ranch made a presence in his mind, but that was not all that nem felt cali had done to leave an impression in his eyes. the possom, however - that was a surprise. “is she yours?” nemuel asked, shoulders relaxing - it would seem, all concerns of nynaevia being the one to be spooked; it had been the humans, more than not. “sorry, did i scare you-?”

The thought is tempting, but he didn’t know the first thing about owning a horse, where would he even keep it? “That’s a shame.” Frowns the male who is already approaching the sweet creature with a sugar cube in hand, not needing to be told twice how to get into this girls good books. “As tempting as it is, there’s not a damn thing I know about horses. And I’m pretty sure my apartment isn’t big enough to home a horse.” Maybe it was like renting a stable? Hiring help? Levi didn’t make that kind of money, but she was delightful. The more he watched her munch on the sugar cube, the more he felt stupidly impulsive. He had to remind himself, no, you’re not adopting a damn pony.

   Genuinely surprised by how tempted Levi seemed to become towards the idea, Nem’s eyebrow rose and he paused in his own affectionate efforts towards the pony he’d claimed for the afternoon, causing her to give a soft, encouraging sound, prompting his hand to resume though his thoughts stayed trained on the subject at hand. “Never too late too learn,” the rancher shrugged, not wanting to push, but hoping to leave the door open. “I think your snake would be a little unhappy with you if you brought home a family member ten times it’s size, though,” He added with a light-hearted chuckle, vaguely remembering some mention of a pet python of sorts- was it? So many customers came in & out, Nemuel sometimes misremembered. “But she could stay here, if you were really interested. Such a sweetie, I know how hard it is to say no.”

“Poor girl. You aren’t working her too hard, are you?” If anyone was going to understand when an animal needed their rest, it would be Mysha. Even if she was looking forward to a ride it wasn’t worth pushing any of the horses’ boundaries.·“Understandable. I can throw things when I want to be left alone too.” She nods. It’s a half joke. It really didn’t take much for her to become irritated but she wouldn’t take out on someone unless they warranted it.·“I’m in, even if it does sound like a way for you to get help with some work. It is hard to say no to ponies.”

   “Me? Never,” Nemuel protested, truthfully, though he notched up the drama with some fake-offense taken, an act done with a charming smile. Her joke made him laugh - hitting a little close to home, actually, Nem was at a constant war with keeping his temper in check (and did so, usually, by avoiding any && all conflict or strong emotion entirely). “Get sick of the koalas today, huh?” From an animal lover to another, Nem had been pleased to connect with another caretaker, or at least, someone who understands the demand of working in close proximity with other living creatures. “You sussed me out pretty fast,” He grinned. “Free labor is way better marketed to the unsuspecting bystander with the adorable ponies stamp on it. But you already agreed, so I’ll get you a grooming bucket!”
