â and youâre trembling, but he reaches over and he touches you, like a prayer for which no words exist. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â -Â Richard Siken
Good morning, it's â it's been a while.
"Are you telling me you donât hear that?"
Simon reached out a hand to firmly grasp the other manâsarm, firmly tugging him further away from the stairs and toward the living room of the decrepit house.Â
âWe -- We just need to pretend we donât hear it. Theyâll leave us alone if we leave them alone.âÂ
Or at least thatâs what Simon hoped for.
haunted house starters
did you hear that?
what was that noise?
i think i heard something upstairsâŚ
did you leave that window open?
i canât keep sleeping in this house!
somethingâs here⌠i can feel it.
iâm not crazy! this house is haunted!
are you telling me you donât hear that?
why donât you believe me?
something is in this houseâŚ
something doesnât want us here.
this place is just creepyâŚ
i hate it here.
if you didnât slam the door then who did?
we have got to move!
i canât take being here any longerâŚ
wake up! i hear something upstairs!

HE SMILES AT THE HAND ON his shoulder and he reaches up to grasp it with his own. Everything heâs done has been in the best interest of them all, not just himself.  âi know, but its a heavy weight to carry, Simon. I donât want to mess anything up. So many decisions yet to make.â Simon, the most loyal of them all, has stood by him  through it all. Â
Theyâve both been through so much and they can understand what true pain is. Something inside him trust the other with everything he has more than anyone else. A sigh exudes knowing that Simon is teasing but heâs not wrong. The pair do tend to bicker more than heâd like and if he decides something that one of them doesnât agree then itâs stress he doesnât really need. Â
Eyes glimpse back toward the sky as he hope it may give him a sign of easier solutions.  âMaybe youâre right but itâs only because I want to make sure the best choice can be made. Nothing can be done lightly.âÂ
It is like watching a weight of another thousand settle on broad shoulders. Simon chooses instead to focus on the way their hands were connected, weaving their fingers together before bringing their hands to press lightly against his cheek.Â
â--Peace is never easy, is it? In the end, youâre still fighting with them. Though at least this time, we know youâll just come back to us with two bags worth of papers instead of bullet wounds.âÂ
North and Josh may not always agree but the three of them, Simon included, always knew when to take the step back. They were like a spectrum, beliefs and experiences coming together as a whole to offer three complete perspectives. Yet in the end, there was no doubt that Markus had the final say and Simon was always going to support it.Â
âIf it helps,â he laughs quietly as the blond turns to look up at the sky as well, easily mapping out the stars from the stories heâs told years and years ago, âYouâll make mistakes. And sometimes itâll be small, sometimes itâll be big. Worrying about it in the dead of the night before you make them will only make you overheat, you know.â Though he teases, Simon canât help but wish he could at least ease the burden a little. So he tries.
âBut when that happens, I promise you wonât be the only one carrying that weight.â Â
artifilius:
ââââââââââTO SAY HE HAS TROUBLE SLEEPING is to phrase it nicely. markus has not found his mind to be kind in terms of rest since he arrived, && of course, sleep is not entirely a necessity, he will not be reduced to his basic components without it, but it dredges his mind && keeps him remembering things heâd prefer to forget. ( it is difficult, however, when every time he closes his eyes he is reminded of an open chest, beating heart, i donât want to die. )
but he is not the only one that cannot sleep. while jericho slumbers, tosses && turns as those try to regain their strength, admit their own fears && grow, simon lingers, prominent in markusâ vision. a part of him always seeks the other out, the same way he looks for josh && north.                   he would raise himself just enough to sit, rest elbows on thighs && let hands dangle in between. question comes, && he shakes his head.
â no, i- canât sleep. guess you canât, either, huh? â       let that wry smile keep him honest.             â you look like youâve got something on your mind. is everything okay, simon? â
                            âIâm fine, Markus.âÂ
Silence settles in between them as he considers the question, doubts coming forward to rest upon the very tip of his tongue only to be pushed back and swallowed by -- pride? Worry? A possible mixture of both. He laces both of his hands together, fingers interlocking loosely.     Â
Itâs only been a few seconds of silence but after speaking, Simon wonders why it feels almost like a few minutes. He hadnât been lying, really. âBut guilt finds its own way in and he always had a rather strict view on what omission meant. â He squeezes his hands before leaning back against the rusting pillar behind him. He focuses on the other man instead, returning the smile.Â
âI could say the same for you, though. âPenny for your thoughtsâ?âÂ
Not that he had pennies but he had always found comfort in the small things, even if itâs from an old past.Â
ofgoldwings:
the weather never bothered icarus. they were a model that was planned to go into space after all. the cold vacuum that was outer space was something that icarus was built for, so the snow fallingâas well as the temperatureânever did cause the android any problems. though, they knew that wasnât the case for everyone as they took notice of simonâs discomfort for a moment, turning back to look up at the sky.Â
âhm, i donât think i could ever get use to resting.â they admitted before moving a little so the other could join. as long as it was just the one, icarus didnât pay any mind to the company they were given. âbut then again, who knows, maybe in due time iâll be able to sleep like the humans.âÂ
feet kicking against the rooftop, they felt like a child. though that wasnât a bad thing to them by any means, after all, children have it a bit easier than most, so why not feel like one if only for a moment?Â
âhow come youâre not enjoying the parties and such? needed quiet as well?â
âSometimes it can get too much.âÂ
At least, thatâs what he canât help thinking. He was sure that the others never had much of a problem continuing forward but there are days when Simon canât help but recognize how different life was now. And it was -- shocking. Perhaps that was the right word.Â
âThere is always someone new to meet, somebody else to resettle,â he continued, hands pulling at his sleeves and jacket until he felt a little more covered.Â
âAnd I enjoy it,â he really does, because it was like seeing hope come back on repeat, âbut I need to take a step back for myself too. Where did you come from? I donât remember seeing you.â At least not at Jericho.
hyperioncompanyman:
A small yelp of shock came from the lanky brunet of a man when he felt a body slam right into him. Rhys had been looking the other direction trying to catch a glimpse of what the news was playing when it happened. Rhys stumbled back and lost his footing by tripping over his own two feet before falling straight on his backside. A hard âoofâ came from him, shaking his head to clear the surprise from what happened he looked up at who ran into him. Standing up Rhys dusted himself off and pated himself down.
âIâm alright. I donât think anything is broken. Wasnât that hard of an impact so Iâm okay. And thankfully nothing else either. So Iâll be fine. But are you okay?âÂ
Rhys directed back to the stranger. He couldnât stop the question from coming from him since it seemed to him to be a valid concern. He didnât know what was going on but it must have been something for the other tocome around the corner in such a fast way and slamming right into him.
Having fallen himself, Simon moved to stand back up. He swayed but caught himself with a quick step forward. His system was popping errors up, as if to remind the android that he had still yet to âmove on.â Though he usually finds the concept of becoming more human-like, more alive to be a beautiful thing, it was usually at these moments that the PL600 wished bitterly he could return to a point where it simply could just be shut off. With a quiet sigh and a smile, he shook his head.Â
âIâm -- Iâll be fine.âÂ
That was the closest thing to the truth. It will take time, as all diagnostics pointed, but he had plenty of time in the world now.Â
âI was just startled by the news and -- moved before I realized what I was doing. Are you sure youâre not hurt? I can check just to make sure.âÂ

     Simon.
His eyes narrow for just a moment before he reaches out once again        to take the packet, lifting it slightly to touch the plastic bag to his lips        before dropping his hand again. He holds onto it at his side for a        second or so before he tucks it away in his jacket.
     [ AND YOU ARE? ]
     [ WHO ARE YOU? ]
     [ RK900 313-248-317-87 ]
     [ CONNOR ]
â My name is Connor. Why are you afraid of me? â
Heâs not sure why the other android seems to care little for the packet of thirium. Usually, Simon was more used to the ones who consumed them as soon as they were given. The war had -- freed their people but there was still so much more work to be done.Â
And finding new androids in need of help, whether it was for repairs or something else, was a daily occurrence.Â
âIâm sorry. Iâm just -- still running on scripts from before. It makes me wary regardless of who Iâm talking to.âÂ
Scripts that insisted he be careful, that the flickering shadows and even the sound of footsteps from behind could still belong to the ones that want to hurt them. Simon makes the point to smile as if to be encouraging (to who? Himself or the other android?) and decides then and there to not bring up the rumors regarding the RK series.Â
âWhy are you here on your own, Connor?â
ofgoldwings:
@thyallegiance gets a starter because!
a long night and here was icarus on the rooftop of the church. they didnât care that the snow was falling, they just wanted to get away from the world for just a little while. it had been a few weeks since the revolution ended, and with androids doing their best to repair detroit, there was also parties and excitement to be had.Â
but icarus just wanted the quiet. to be closer to the sky as their eyes looked up at the clouded atmosphere.Â
yes, they became deviant, but even so they wanted nothing more to go into space again, to have another chance, but seeing as though there were nobody around who could fix the wings they once had, it was a foolish dream.Â
turning when they heard footsteps approaching, icarus tried to give a smile, though how fake it was. even their led was giving their thoughts away as it was flashing yellow.
      âyouâre up late.â
December was settling in far too quickly, a blanket of snow already coating every available inch of the city that it could. With the humans having evacuated, this particular area of the city had been emptied and then filled once more with their people.Â
As time passed by, the voices grew in number as everyone learned together what it meant to truly feel joy. However, he had mostly been busy with work. There was still anti-android legislation laws weaved into every piece of government signed document across the country. Detroit was no different.Â
Simon, with a wry smile, could only take so much (of burden, of celebration, of both really) before he turned for the safety of peace and quiet. Though he didnât particularly like winter with his particular model sensitive to both hot and cold temperatures for the sake of their once charges, he couldnât help but find comfort in the silence that greeted him when he stepped outside.Â
Here, it was as if life had came to a still. It was still a bit surprising, though he understood, when it was clear he wasnât alone tonight.Â
âI think most of us still are. Rest mode still doesnât feel quite right, just yet. Donât you agree?â
@hyperioncompanyman
Simon really ought to be more aware of his space but the sound of gunshots fired echoing from the news cast on the TV above them had startled him into trying to get out of plain sight.
âI-- Â Â Â Â I am so sorry! Are you alright?â He didnât think he would end up bowling anyone over as he rounded the corner.

@thyallegiance || MARKUS STARTER
THEREâS HOPE IN THE SKY as eyes watch the beginning of twinkles the stars pop in one by one. He leans over the balcony with a small smile on his face as the otherâs footsteps can be heard coming from behind him.  âJoin me, Simon. Do you feel that?â Finally he gazes over his shoulder as the brightness of Simonâs return has renewed him, at least for another day.  âI can feel it. Maybe we CAN do this. But if we do then we do it MY way. The peaceful way. Nothing else but that.âÂ
It was with ease that Simon found himself tracing his steps from the previous night all the way back to the open balcony doors, their sheer curtains billowing gently from the warm night breeze. He couldnât help the soft sigh before stepping through with one hand already reaching to rest upon a broad shoulder.Â
âYou know that weâve never expected you to do anything but what you think is best, Markus. And you know that no matter what choices you make, we will stand beside you.â The blond gives him squeeze with affection, the acknowledgement that such a thing can exist within him still sending a shiver through his coding.Â
âEveryone knows that even North and Josh will stop arguing once you decide on something.â He playfully adds with a smile, âThough this might just mean youâre the most stubborn of them all.âÂ
machinedetective:
He was supposed to be off duty - whatever it meant. Then again, he was not supposed to have an âoff dutyâ like how the humans should, yet Lieutenant still insisted him to take a breather and help him finding a coffee. Which was ridiculous, because Connor knew Lieutenant always drank the coffee from the office anyway, never asked for any coffee brand outside in the city.
âHello,â he replied to the android, calculating. âYes, I suppose I can use a little help. Do you know, by any chance, a coffee shop around here that has a strange green two-tailed mermaid wearing a crown as its store logo? Unfortunately my partner failed to mention the location and the storeâs name before sending me out.â And quite pissed off too, so Connor just agreed to bring him the coffee, deliberately not questioning further about this particular shop.
Blue eyes blinked, the PL600 android taking a moment to consider their current position and the stores that Simon knew from often passing by during his tasks. In terms of coffee shops, there were a few local ones â ones that werenât so particularly welcoming to androids even if it was for pick up â and then there was the major chain. Considering the description of the logo, it had to be the chain.
âI think I know which one your partner is talking about. Theyâre a rather popular in this area,â he mused.
In fact, since the late 2010s, it seemed that Starbucks had simply grown and became the main monopoly for the states when it came to coffee and teas. âI can show you, if you like.â His tasks were finished after all. He could take a bit more time to help someone else. That was his main narrative in terms of coding. âDid your partner tell you what size or type of coffee they wanted?â
â i thought this would be a better life for us. can you imagine a bigger fool than that? â
Markus.Â
The choice to stand for up for their rights, their voices, their lives was not an easy one. To be the leader of the entire group and hold their lives in his hand could only feel like holding the world on his shoulders. And stillhasnât he done more than any of them?Â
âYouâve done the impossible and brought us closer to living, Markus. No matter what, this wound was was festering and youâre the one who is finally cleaningit.â It may hurt but most of their peopleâs lives were already filled with pain. At least now it felt more like the cost for hope.Â
âWe all have choices and mine -- ours were to follow you to the end, no matter where or what it is.âÂ
â they say to save one life is to save the world entire. â
Amongst humans, the concept of importance came withtitles and merit. Sacrificing one for another, ten lives for five, thousands for one, was natural when the cause was right. He supposed there was irony to be found in the fact that their people were slowly learning what this meant as well.Â
             âI wonât tell you anything.âÂ
Because it was undeniable that their entire world would change -- be saved but only if that one life lived long enough to change it.

â now youâve rattled the monkey cage. here they come. â
â what excuse do we have not to sculpt, and sculpt, and sculpt, until the job is done? â
â what if now it is not my skill that fails me but my imagination? â
â chin up, now. the lord hates a quitter. â
â iâm here to show you a new kind of beauty. â
â the path of the righteous is not always easy, yes? â
â the reward will become clear in time: be patient. â
â whichever way you slice it, good men died. â
â i thought this would be a better life for us. can you imagine a bigger fool than that? â
â if you press that button, youâll learn what it means to truly be my enemy. â
â you ooze in like an assassin and then try to sneak out like a thief. â
â thereâs two ways to deal with the mystery: uncover it, or eliminate it. â
â i come to this place to build the impossible. â

â youâre not a moth⌠youâre an angel. iâve never painted an angel⌠maybe i should! â
â you give them hope. and for this, i am grateful. â
â i donât need to be judged by you⌠by anyone⌠screw you! â
â i havenât chosen a spot for you on the wall yet. let me know if you have a preference. â
â if i have to kill one to save the other, so be it. â
â thank you for reminding me that the light of the world has not yet been snuffed off. â

â the great chain moves slowly, but with wisdom. â
â as you drag me closer to the abyss, you pull yourself right along with me. â
â i offer you a quick death. it will be preferable to what you will learn if you win. â
â think about it for a second, and maybe the word will come to you: nostalgia! â
â mark my words â your only reward will be a knife in the back. â
â my strength is not in steel and fire, but in my intellect and will. â
â in the end, all that matters to me â is me. and all that matters to you â is you. â
â even in the book of lies, sometimes you find truth. â

â a man chooses. a slave obeys. â
â you know what they say⌠never mix business with friendship. â
â kills me to turn my fist to you, but business is business. donât let it get you down. â
â they say to save one life is to save the world entire. â
â now thereâs nothing left for you but a long cold nothing. â
â you know, you should be thanking me! i brought you here! i showed you who you are! â
â nobody never told you nothing but lies till i came along! â
