a detail about Glass Onion
okay so i just finished Glass Onion and I am obsessed
but, as someone who is familiar with Greek islands, something stood out to me
when Lionel calls the police and begs them to come to the island, the police tell him that they can’t come because they can only land at Miles’ “piece of shit” dock at low tide, which won’t be until the morning. Lionel accepts this excuse and reports the bad news back to the rest of the party, to their collective dismay
here’s the thing, though:
The Aegean has no tide to speak of.
Thanks to Europe and Africa nearly touching at Gibraltar and essentially trapping the Mediterranean Sea in its basin, the water has nowhere to move to even if the moon’s gravity is pulling on it. At least, the tide is so small it’s completely negligible and certainly would not affect any dock, whether or not said dock was set to lift/lower.
now, this could of course just be an oversight on the writer’s part and may just be a factual error. BUT i think it’s much funnier that this is a group of characters who simply wouldn’t know that there’s no tide in the Aegean, and the local Greek police just went “fuck those rich Americans, let’em wait until after breakfast”
