Hear me out. Do with this what you will. Tom dates a latinx. Poor boy is so foreign to Spanish he pronounces the h in "hola". His significant other mocks them for it any chance they get. He's slightly embarrassed but kinda adores for his partner to speak Spanish to him every time they correct him.

I thought long and hard for this one, fam. Happy New Year!

The feeling of the breeze against your skin from standing out in the balcony had already settled in. You had stepped outside for some fresh air, but the view was an unthought for bonus. Starring out at the neighboring buildings and the skyline, you didn’t dare look at your watch to see how long until the new year arrived. Not even the sound of the sliding door behind you made you look away.

“Hola, babe. Why all alone out here?”

But your head almost did a 180 degree turn when you heard the unfamiliar pronunciation of, what must be by now, a standard word in your boyfriend’s vernacular. Your response happened just as his arms wrapped around you from behind.

“There’s, at least, 15 Spanish-speaking people inside and you’re telling me they all ok’d that?” You asked, watching how his cheeky grin left his face slowly. He looked at you with embarrassment before you kindly repeated the word correctly.

His grin grew to a smile that he hid on the crook of your neck, where he deposited pecks and kisses until you pulled away in giggles. Giggles turned into laughs as he reassured you that ‘this was his year.’ to really learn the language.

“I’m gonna need it a whole lot, anyway.” He said. You read right through his words as he implied the relationship would be getting much more serious. Behind you, a crowd of your closest friends and family members had begun counting down from ten. In English, to Tom’s relief. “Should we go inside?” He asked, to which you answered by pulling him closer.

He tried to follow the count down in Spanish and the moment went from romantic to funny abruptly as he demonstrated the urgency with which he needed the Spanish classes. Taking advantage of the fact that the countdown had reached 1, and suddenly there were fireworks going off in the distance, you decided to speak in your native language for a change.

“Yo no sé cómo, pero te amo…“

“Uh... I didn't get most of it... but I love you too.” He answered before giving you the first kiss of the year.

“You ready?”

Cecily pulled her blanket overtop of her head on the couch and groaned. “No, am I ever ready? It’s not going to be this year, just like it wasn’t last year, or the year before that, or the year before that.”

Cecily’s best friend Savannah plopped down on the couch next to her and yanked the blanket off her head. “C’mon, Cecy, you never know! It could be this year!”

She flopped backwards dramatically onto the couch again. “But it’s definitely not,” she sighed. “This is your year, though.”

“No no no, none of that,” Savannah snapped. “None of that negativity and shifting the focus to me, now. I know you too well to pull that shit. Now get your ass up and go get dressed, we’ve got to get going!”

Cecily groaned again, but pulled herself up off the couch and trudged to her room.

It was Cuffing Season, the time of year between October 1st and December 31st where every weekend, all the “eligible” humans, people between the ages of eighteen and thirty, went out and mingled in the hopes of finding their soulmate. When you met your supposed “soulmate,” which Cecily didn’t really think she’d ever find, you allegedly felt this shock through your system, like a quick jolt of energy, and a small chain tattoo appeared on your wrist, the same tattoo that appeared on your “soulmate’s” corresponding wrist.

Artemis plopped her chin on Morrison’s leg. Her one ear flopped over and she looked up at Morrison with her big, brown eyes.

And when his best friend, Harrison Osterfield, was cast to play his character’s older brother, Morrison was in shock. She’d seen some of their interactions and thought they already acted like her two characters, and she couldn’t wait to see their on-screen chemistry.

Morrison Grace was nervous to start filming the movie adaptation of her book, but she was ecstatic to bring her creation to life.

Her loud outburst called attention not only to the fact that she wasn’t on the sales floor folding sweatshirts, which is where she was supposed to be, but also to the fact that you had probably just shared a particularly juicy piece of gossip.

“I’ve got access to a PA system here. I’d have made a formal announcement if I wanted everyone to know about this.” You had made the classic mistake of thinking she would be discrete about what taken place between you and Tom the night before.

“Sorry, but you can’t tell me that you spent the night peeping in on Tom having sex and expect me not to react.”

“Don’t say it like that.”

“Like what?”
