Brushes:
ELF is your friend cus their standard brushes are $1, while their studio collection is $3. I personally fucks mainly with the studio collection for my contouring and such. Real good stuff.
EcoTools is also a really decent line to go for and are easily accessible at most drugstores
Morphe brushes are a bit more expensive but most aren’t over $10 and they are really good quality.
Also, you can get beauty blenders really cheap on Amazon if you are ordering online and in stores like walgreens or target
Primers
ELF again is a realy good brand for under $5. Their illuminating primer really does do well and I like it because it’s lightweight.
NYX has some damn good face primers. They are a bit more expensive (~$20) but I love their shine killer and pore filler for when I prime.
Urban Decay’s primer potion is my tried and true, swear to god, cross my heart and hope to die primer of choice for my eyes, okay? I wear my eye shadow 5 days a week, every week to work. I have had a tube for almost a YEAR before I had to buy more. All you need is a DAB. DASSIT. The primer is $20 but that shit is an investment cus if you don’t do eye shadow that often like I do, you’re essentially SET.
Foundations/Concealers
ELF once again (I’m so serious. They got good shit for cheap) has a nice array of foundation and concealer for about $6 a pop. Their skin tones range from pale to about medium brown. Not too many darker colors, unfortunately
Black Opal is a black owned company that does really well with dark skin, from light skinned to very dark. A definite must for the darker skinned makeup wearer. They have really good full coverage foundation and concealer as well. Most products are under $10 so it’s a good way to start doing full face contouring
Black Radiance is an affiliate of Wet n Wild that caters to the darker skinned makeup wearer and carries light medium to very dark skin tones. I like their concealers for when I do contouring because they have a duo that works well for my tone. Again, most are under $10.
NYX has a nice array of colors and their foundation is only about $8. Carries from paler to medium brown colors.
Iman is also a black owned company that carries foundations for the darker toned makeup wearer. Her line is a bit more expensive, but it’s only about $16 for foundation and concealer
Shea Moisture is black owned and a newer contender in teh makeup world but still I love it so. They have a good range of foundation colors so it’s good for the darker skinned makeup wearer. A bit pricier (~$16) and the contouring pack is $25.
this is a fantastic post, let me just add a few things
re: ELF brushes, please try and spring for the Studio ones if you can (the black ones are usually $3 for the basic eye and face ones), the “Essential” $1 ones are trash tbh. that couple of extra bucks is definitely worth it for way better brushes that won’t fall apart on you. I like the $3 concealer brush for applying cream eyeshadows and lip products (i have a couple of them). if you want to get into ELF I would highly highly suggest signing up for their email list because the website constantly has good sales and deals on their products
Milani is another great drugstore brand that caters to WOC in terms of the shade range and pigmentation of their products, their baked blushes are a fave of mine and their lipsticks are nice too. their availability tends to be a lot more hit or mess compared to other drugstore brands from my experience but when you can find their stuff it tends to be great
Jordana is nice for lip liners (every brown/black makeup wearer NEEDS a flesh colored lip liner, it is the magic bullet for making nude lips work), you can find them at your local beauty supply and they’re hella cheap
ALSO if you are fortunate enough to have a Nordstrom Rack near you, hit the makeup section up I promise you it is worth it. Like any clearance/closeout type of store it really depends on when you hit it. but you can regularly find mid range expensive Sephora/Ulta brands (Urban Decay, Lorac, Philosophy, Tarte, etc) there for stupid cheap. just as an example, the last time I hit up mine I got the Urban Decay Smoked Palette (not Naked Smoky, an older one) for $20. this palette originally went for $49 and has 10 eyeshadows, a mini primer potion, and a full size Perversion eye pencil. the eye pencil alone costs like $21 normally at Sephora.
even if you can’t afford the discounted mid-range stuff they sell, you may be able to find discounted drugstore products there too. the one I go to in Brooklyn regularly carries a huge range of NYX products that are way cheaper than at the drugstore, I got all my jumbo eye pencils from there for like $2-3. granted the selection may not be as wide as in a drugstore but you can’t beat the price. if you have one in your area it is definitely worth checking.
can I also suggest one cheap thing from Sephora that will help you a lot?? Sephora’s house brand Sephora Collection sells a little silicone cleansing pad called the Precision Pore Cleansing Pad for like $6. not only is it fantastic for washing your face but it also doubles as an amazing tool to clean your makeup brushes, and mild soap and a quick rinse is all you need to clean it. this little thing saved me so much time and expensive brush cleanser istg. you will never need to replace it either
that’s a good point btw, keep your brushes clean and you won’t need to replace so many. Baby shampoo is great but if you want to spring for something a bit more heavy duty Dr. Bronner’s soap is fantastic. it costs about $10 but the shit lasts forever, especially if you use it in conjunction with the cleansing pad I just mentioned. all you need is a little bit.

20/20
Hindsight is always unfortunately 20/20, and although going back in the past would clearly alter what is going on current day, I really wish I could go back in time and change some things around. Don’t get me wrong I love my family and I am so grateful for what I have in my life but I wish I could go back to undergrad and change the entire dynamic. For example, my boyfriend at the time -- I really wish I could back in time and decide that maybe we shouldn’t live together (would’ve made our eventual break-up a lot less financially taxing). I wish I could go back and decide on my sociology major before the start of my junior year, so that I could explore CRD or HDE and AAS as viable minors. I wish I wouldn’t have turned down that internship with Omni Youth; and last but not least I wish I could go back and pursue grad school much more vigorously. I could’ve still met Jeremiah and we could’ve still got married but I would’ve forgone living abroad to attend grad school and knock it out of the park in one quick sweep. It definitely would’ve sucked living away from him for those 2-3 years but I think that if I’d had my master’s prior to moving to LR my current situation of being disgustingly underemployed would not be a factor. Of course I could also go back in time and just be more on it in Oki about my masters but gosh, I don’t know. I wish I would’ve just stuck it out at that god forsaken Boys and Girls club too...yes the hours sucked and the commute was awful, but I would’ve made good money, could’ve paid off some of this debt and got them to pay for my MSW...come to think of it I really fucked that one up.
On the mom side of things I wish I could go back in time and introduce Liam to solids earlier than we did, maybe he wouldn’t be so damn picky and stubborn at breakfast, lunch, dinner and motherfucking snack time.
Ugh!!! Hindsight is always 20/20.

Dominican Republic to be ‘Socially Cleaned’ of all Hatians/Dark Skinned Dominicans in two days
In two days about a quarter of a million people will be made stateless. They will have no homes, no passports, and no civil rights. There are several reasons for this, but the primary reason is racism.
At issue is a ruling by the Constitutional Court in the Dominican Republic to strip away the citizenship of several generations of Dominicans:
According to the decision, Dominicans born after 1929 to parents who are not of Dominican ancestry are to have their citizenship revoked. The ruling affects an estimated 250,000 Dominican people of Haitian descent, including many who have had no personal connection with Haiti for several generations.
Dominican Republic has always had a longstanding hatred towards Haiti for years but what they’re doing is literally taking anyone who’s family lineage cannot be traced back to 1929, and putting them on a one-way bus back to Haiti, whether they were born in the DR or not. They don’t care.
The US State Department has denounced the Dominican government for this plan, and pointed out that it is a gross violation of human rights according to the U.N. charter.
Below are 5 things you need to know about what is happening in the Dominican Republic:
The DR government has revoked the citizenship of more than 100,000 Dominicans born in the country of Haitian parents.
Many of the Dominican-born Haitians facing the looming threat of deportation have never visited Haiti or know anyone there.
The criteria the government will use in deciding who is to be bussed out of the country is “dark-skinned Dominicans with Haitian facial features.”
The DR government claims to have established a legalization process for Dominican-Haitians wishing to remain in the country, but the system is close-to-impossible, according to sources on the ground.
Even though currently the deportation of Dominic-Haitians persists as only a possibility, all evidence points to it happening.

Kim has actually spoke on it. its stemmed from self hate and the black men who have been in her life. she said something along the lines of herself (who she is) not being enough for them, she internalized over the years as many young black women do and thats she started with the surgeries. our skin is too dark, we arent light enough. our noses are too wide, our hair is not long enough, straight enough or we dont have that right curl pattern. its a lot to deal with.
Think about the fact that she was in love with Biggie, and he married Faith, while he was still having sex with Kim.
Are we going to dismiss the constant abuse she had experienced?
Her father was very strict, an ex military sergeant, who was so distant towards Kim & her brother she didn’t see him as a father, she experience him hitting her, her mother. She once stabbed him with scissors as he repeatedly was hitting her mother.
Biggie smalls was nothing better, he was very controlling and abusive. Kim loved him to death, she wore those big glasses because he gave her multiple black eyes & at one point choked her then put a gun to her head. He constantly made fun of Kim’s nose , He was so possessive and controlling her forced Kim to get an abortion when she was pregnant with his child.
Damion ‘world’ hardy was the worst. He was labelled ‘bipolar’ and possessive. Damion cheated on Kim multiple times throughout there relationship with lighter women and ‘exotic’ women. He’s mentally unstable, and is currently serving life in prison due to 6 MURDER charges. Damion was so unstable he had reportedly beaten kim over a game of checkers. He broke Kim’s nose TWO Times, second time was when she was still healing from the first. internally bruised her face causing mass blood clots, he also caused clots on her back and head.
People just jump to conclusions, there’s a reasoning for her change, that comes from a deep and dark place.

She empowers people in situations she experienced aswell, you feel the power and emotion she felt throughout the song, Her loyalty is the best attributes to her. As she was prosecuted FOR not snitching on her friends, which in return they placed the blame on her.
Rather than other female rapper fans and other People attack her, Learn and take something away from this. You might see someone who has had a change in appearance and comment or laugh, but you have NO fucking idea what events lead to it.
