Year 3 BCT Blog Dump Semester Catchup
Safe to say I have not been really good when it comes to logging, documenting and keeping up with blogs. So small rundown of what’s happened from start to now. First few weeks back into sem, Caitlin and I dived straight into work with trying to make the garment. We searched for where would be the best place to get the materials, what we were going to do with the materials and how we were going to do it. I started with redesigning a new Chainmail piece, which we were going to use for the solid coral skirt, and then looked into how we were going to put it together. We got a sponsor who will, to this day, be unnamed for privacy, help us with costs of 3D Printing the chainmail. We began working on Screenprinting, isolating each and every individual colour of the shirt and then getting the screens ready to use.
That was the first part of semester, all the work had to be put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic. we had an early and extended mid-semester break, in that break, wasn’t really productive, not much we could do because we were then in Lockdown and had no access to our materials, resources or equipment. Though a bit of a both good and bad note, The World of Wearable arts 2020 was also cancelled, meaning we could have a small breath of relief.
After Mid-semester, Caitlin and I began planning on what we could do instead, we started work on a website that would showcase our work, all our concepts, the planning and prototyping, and the process. We refined the garment again because at the start of the year, we found it was too difficult and expensive to make the entire skirt out of chainmail despite having sponsors.
This is the new refind version of what we are going to make for the 2021 World of Wearable Arts Competition.
The Left is the Previous version, the right is the new version.
While being on Lockdown, BCT began online learning. This meant having to change the project path. While planning what were wer going to do, I looked into making a website for our garment. We would be using it to act as a “Digital Stage” where it could be showcased. We made a combined Email for the team and began working on the website.
The website will showcase all our work to date, as well as have me learn more skills in design. I began work on animating the garment, having it move and glow, simulating what it would have looked like on stage
This is the process I used to make the colour changing effect for the garment. Using Photoshop Timeline Video Editor, I created a near seamless transition using fade. This helps simulate the effects LEDs would have on in the garment
This video is supposed to simulate the movement of the when being worn.
This is the video of the colour changing effect.
Needless to say, this semester has been a real head turner
