“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” ― Albert Einstein

Hello! I'd like to cordially invite you to my upcoming first solo photo exhibition TOMORROW OCT 9th at ALT SPACE in Brooklyn. MUCH LOVE, Cheryl Georgette “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ― Anaïs Nin A solo exhibition featuring new work by Cheryl Georgette Dates: October 9th – Oct 23 Opening Reception: October 9th | 7-9pm New York, NY ALT SPACE 41 Montrose Ave. Brooklyn, NY Alt Space is pleased to present Tight in a Bud, Cheryl Georgette’s first solo exhibition featuring innovative live music photography, collage, and mixed media. Edited using analog techniques and developed in a dark room, these portraits depicts the raw energy of live performance.
As head photo editor at Alt Citizen, Georgette has created iconic images highlighting the counterculture focus of our publication. Photographing the likes of Julian Casablancas +The Voidz (of The Strokes), Mac Demarco, and John Cooper Clarke, Georgette is known for her images of prominent creators of our DIY generation in intimate settings. In her solo exhibition, Tight in a Bud, she creates similar unique and iconic images that inspire photographic ingenuity. Her solo exhibition will showcase handpainted gelatin silver prints, gelatin silver prints (unpainted), and mixed media collages featuring artists such as HO99O9, Eartheater, Dawn of Humans, Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, No Parents, Raw Distraction, Mykki Blanco, and JD Samson. While her photography is often rooted in a documentary style, she transcends expectations to redefine what live music photojournalism can be. By framing and manipulating her subjects with collage and paint, Cheryl pays homage to independent artists, their commitment to the craft, and how one creates compelling experiences with few resources. And though her compositions sweaty, unfiltered glimpses into the serendipitous present capture the crescendo of realtime, artistic expression, they also enhance and glorify it, hypnotizing the viewer with her interpretation the bygone performance, her participation in it, and the dynamics that permeated throughout. Subversive and Saccharine Faces by Lauren Satlowski
Detroit-native Lauren Satlowski works and lives in Los Angeles, California. Satlowski’s work both captivates and repulses the viewer in an endearing way with her seemingly mutated and melting figures. Her oil paintings make me want to reach out and touch each of their sticky looking faces. Delicious.
All the characters in Satlowski’s paintings look like dolls after an atomic bomb blast, but her use of bright colors and sparkles breath life into the melted and malformed faces. This post-apocalyptic-psychedelic aesthetic is the best eye-candy for anyone with a big and twisted imagination…like all of us at EK!
