IT'S  #TOMMYLAND…  AND  EVERYONE'S  INVITED!

EVENT:  tommy's  25th  birthday  ! DATE  &  TIME:  saturday  13th  june,  starting  at  8pm  and  running  until…  late  ! LOCATION:  penny  park  ! DETAILS:  meticulously  planned  by  kenji  sato  and  his  wallet,  tommy's  25th  is  going  to  be  one  for  the  ages.  carnival  games  (including  a  dunk  tank!),  food  stalls,  a  big  top  circus  tent  home  to  some  performances  (acrobatics  and  fire  breathing,  to  name  a  few),  a  special  cocktail  menu  based  on  the  birthday  girl,  and  a  temporary  tattoo  station,  no  expense  has  been  spared  to  give  tommy  the  birthday  she's  always  dreamed  of.  keep  your  wits  about  you,  though,  because  everyone's  getting  a  secret  mission  as  soon  as  they  walk  in  –  and  you  don't  wanna  know  the  forfeit  for  not  completing  yours!

“Who, Brett?” Lenny could barely get out the name without going off script and laughing for a moment. “One of my best friends or not, Brett could really care less if I’m here. Of course, I am here, but he probably doesn’t even know. There’s pretty low expectations in our house.” Lenny feels maybe she’s given up a little too much ammunition. There’s something about Lark that always makes her give up the gun. “And this shit isn’t a petty squabble, dude. Whatever… you didn’t cheat. Fuckin’ fine. You’re still part of the problem.” These were the little things Lenny clung to.

lark  listens  to  the  words,  lip  curling  as  lennon  continues  to  justify  an  unfavourable  situation.   ❛  oh.  ❜   is  what  she  finally  says,  something  more  vicious  than  pity  soaking  the  syllable.   ❛  the  problem  is  that  you  accept  incredibly  low  standards  in  all  of  your  personal  relationships  and  want  to  make  that  everyone  else's  problem.  ❜   lark  makes  sure  to  raise  the  volume  of  her  tone,  so  that  those  nearby  could  hear  her  –  personally,  she  was  sick  to  death  of  taking  the  high  road.   ❛  when  are  you  going  to  get  over  it?  he  could  be  getting  engaged  to  the  love  of  his  life  on  a  boat  in  monaco  and  you'd  still  be  here,  miserable,  broken,  alone  –  right  where  he  left  you.  but  sure,  lennon,  give  him  that  power.  you're  really  sticking it to him every time you bitch at me.  ❜

"not as happy as you could be, if I'd done this the way everyone wanted me to." he answers, giving her the honesty she'd asked for. he doesn't move from the floor, lets her put a little distance between them, if that's what she needs from him. "you say you're happy for me, but there's so much hurt in it, you don't sound sure of yourself. and I know that's my fault." he sighs, searching for the words to say I'd rather you just yell at me, get it out of your system because he knows that's not corinne either. because it's not him. it'd worked well enough with marco, but it isn't going to cut it here. "and you don't have to be happy for me. not right now. we have to talk it out when you're ready, though, that's who we are, so you have to be honest with me, too." he swallows thickly. "right?"

words  and  sounds  fail  corinne  as  her  lip  quivers,  lips  parting  every  few  moments  as  if  she  were  about  to  say  something,  then  meeting  in  failure  every  time.  luke  was  right  –  but  that  made  everything  even  harder.  why  couldn't  he  just  let  her  move  past  it?  why  did  she  have  to  be  honest?  why  did  he  seem  so  intent  on  hearing  something  that  would  only  cause  him  harm?   ❛  what  do  you  want  me  to  say?!  ❜   ricochets  from  her  lips  before  her  brain  can  catch  up,  allowing  the  words  to  leave  without  tears  (  though  they  continued  to  threaten  to  spill  over  ).   ❛  you  aren't  being  fair,  luke.  i'm…  trying.  ❜   and  before  she  can  stop  it,  accompanied  by  tears  shed  by  her  boundless  emotions,  she  asks,   ❛  why  are  you  the  only  one  allowed  to  lie?  ❜

"I don't..." He sighs, heavy, tears lying in wait in the corners of his eyes. "I don't know if I believe that you are." The words come out tense, throat tight. He hates that she sounds so uncertain, like she doesn't trust his words either. Because of all of the Windsor siblings, they should be the least likely to end up here. And perhaps that's why it's so much harder, because he'd thought if anyone could forgive him, it'd be Corinne, but she hasn't and he doesn't know how to get them there. "I do believe that you want me to happy. Obviously you do." Another deep breath, drawn in this time. He lightly squeezes her hand in his. "You can be totally honest with me, you know. I don't want you to resent me. I don't think either of us could live with that." He can't live with this either, this uncertainty, discomfort. "Not this version of me, though, right?"

sits  up,  then,  suddenly.  hand  drops  from  her  brother's  in  a  terrifyingly  symbolic  gesture  so  she  can  stand  upright.  it's  as  if  the  floor  feels  suffocating,  all  of  a  sudden,  like  the  oyxgen  is  thinner  laid  next  to  luke.  spins  round  to  look  at  him,  eyes  wide,   ❛  you  don't  believe  that  i'm  happy  for  you?  ❜   her  voice  is  still  measured,  stable,  but  it  gives  itself  away  at  the  end.  tilts  towards  breaking.   ❛  be  honest.  ❜   she  whispers,  more  for  her  own  sake  than  anyone  else's,  fearful  that  if  her  volume  were  to  raise,  her  composure  would  fail  entirely.

The night was packed with various performances from friends, but he admittedly held a much more rare, earnest excitement for the final one of the night seeing as though Brett and Kai would be the ones up there. However, when the time finally came around, Xavier was quickly filled with indecipherable feelings as his eyes landed on their lead singer. Everything, as much as he didn't want it to, blurred together after that point. One second the environment was full of music, the next everything quieted and he found himself standing in front of a piece of his past he thought would remain there.

He blinked, reached down for the lighter, and then held it out to her. A beat passed before he finally found words, "...No. I, uh, live here. Have for a while now." There was a quietness to his voice that seemed uncharacteristic of him these days. He didn't know how to describe what was going on inside of him right now. There was some relief in seeing someone who meant something to him in one piece, but that part was harder to grasp onto while he was primarily flooded by discomfort and a disorientating feeling. None of which was her fault. Xavier just didn't know how to process permanently occupying a town with someone who held very vulnerable parts of him that no one else did.

"I take it you do too...now?" Didn't think he really needed to ask. Being part of a band in town seemed like a pretty clear answer. Maybe some part of him hoped there was some other explanation for it — which felt wrong? Because he didn't have anything against her. Lucy Lux always felt safe enough to confide in and seek a certain level of closeness from, but that had been because it was always promised that they'd only exist to each other in fleeting moments that would eventually run out.

the  realisation  hits  her…  and  suddenly  it  all  feels  very  real.  hand  reaches  for  the  lighter,  fingertips  brush  against  his  skin  out  of  habit  and  she  has  to  fight  against  the  urge  to  rip  her  hand  back,  as  if  it  had  been  licked  by  flames.  cigarette  sits  in  her  mouth,  lighter  brought  to  it,  but  she  stops.   ❛  if  i'd  have  known–  ❜   cuts  herself  off,  because  what's  the  point?  he  knows  as  well  as  she  does  that  this…  foreign  sort  of  tension  between  them  only  meant  one  thing.   ❛  yeah,  i  live  here.  ❜   and  what  does  that  mean  for  them? part  of  her  turns  the  thought  over  in  her  mind  –  was  it  worth  leaving  to  keep  hold  of  whatever  they'd  had?  tenderness  allowed  to  be  shared  because  it  was  ephemeral,  words  uttered  only  to  him,  where  did  they  all  go  now?  no.  the  answer  was  no.  because  she  wasn't  the  same  person  she  was  when  she'd  last  seen  xavier,  but  god…  that  person  became  easy  to  miss  during  times  like  this.  cigarette  is  finally  lit,  so  she  holds  the  lighter  out  to  him.   ❛  thanks.  ❜   should  stop  there,  but  she  doesn't.   ❛  xavi,  this  is  kind  of  fucked  up.  ❜   finally  acknowledges  them  with  barely  more  than  a  whisper,  voice  dropping  low  as  if  she  were  keeping  a  secret.

Okay.... what the fuck? That's all that Noah could think, because this energy was not like Tommy. Or, at the very least, it wasn't like Tommy to him. She could be fickle sometimes, sure. But he didn't mind that. He was all over the place on his best days. But this was something new, altogether. And it stung, really bad. "Never around? Tommy, I've been fuckin' reaching out, man." He all but scoffed, not believing what he was hearing. "I.. which one is it? Am I never around or am I fuckin' clingy? Dude!" He felt wounded, and for someone who usually went with the flow of things, he felt really rather hurt, which was manifesting as anger. "This isn't fuckin' funny to me, Tommy. I really don't get what the fuck is going on right now."

noah's  cluelessness  –  or  in  her  distorted  view  of  events,  sheer  ignorance  –  did  little  to  quell  her  boiling  blood,  only  fuelled  her  displaced  rage  further.   ❛  reaching  out  mid  fuck  with  your  flavour  of  the  month  that's  overstayed  his  welcome  isn't  reaching  out,  babe,  it's  a  consolation  prize.  what,  you  pity  me  or  something?  think  i  fucking  need  you?  ❜   because  she  did,  awfully,  terribly,  and  now  he  was  leaving  her.  she  would  continue  to  be  a  fuck  up  and  he  dared  to  seek  growth  without  her.   ❛  whatever,  you're  being  so  boring.  ❜

🪐 lark looks perturbed, as she turns to him. its momentarily disconcerting. "a theme?" he glance around at the room as if to confirm to himself the answer he already knew, "i don't think so? it's just an open mic for anything." he slides down into the seat next to her, "why?"

a  reassured  sigh  empties  from  her  chest,  body  returning  to  its  natural,  unperturbed  state.   ❛  thank  god.  ❜   she  says,  trusting  saul  to  know  the  facts  of  the  event.   ❛  i  was  just  watching  wesley  and  noah's  performance  and  was  struck  by  the  horrifying  thought  that  perhaps  they  were  following  a  theme  of  some  sort.  ❜

watching  tommy,  his  teeth  became  exposed  in  a  grimaced  expression.  “sorry,”  he  mumbled,  fingers  lightly  tapping  a  glass  out  of  anxiousness.  he  didn't  mean  to  drift  away  from  their  conversation  but  somehow,  it  just  happened.  “okay,  okay.  i  promise  i'll  pay  attention  from  now  on.”  he  brought  his  elbows  up  on  the  table  before  holding  his  head  in  his  hands.  “whatever  you  want  to  say,  i'm  listening.”

the night is coming to and end, and she's captured everything she needs to. decides to spend the last of her time simply enjoying the music. moving to the side of the crowd, she soon realizes who she's stopped beside. thinks about moving away, but she doesn't. let's her camera hang around her neck as she takes a sip from deceiving water bottle. " are you offended by vodka too, or is it just vapes ? " she questions teasingly, extending the dwindling alcohol out to him in offering.

a  loud   ‘  ha  ’   leaps  from  stellan's  throat  as  he  watches  the  stage,  hands  stuffed  into  his  pockets  as  he  moved  his  knees  back  and  forth.   ❛  my  therapist  likes  to  say  me  and  booze  don't  get  along,  sort  of  a  two  cats  in  a  bag  situation.  ❜   his  polite  way  of  turning  it  down,  which  was  pretty  much  the  only  time  stellan  was  polite.   ❛  but  i  hope  that  means  you're  telling  me  we'll  be  vape  cloud  free  tonight?  ❜

lark's  fingers  are  rolling  small  circles  over  her  temples  to  try  and  recover  from  noah  and  wesley's  performance  –  ironically,  not  because  of  them,  but  because  she  was  suddenly  fearful  this  was  a  musical  theatre  open  mic.  saul's  presence  is  a  welcome  distraction,  and  she  nods  towards  the  open  stool  in  approval.   ❛  it's  all  yours.  –––  saul,  tell  me  quickly,  is  there  a  theme  to  this  event?  ❜

he was rushing, an even mix of adrenaline and desperation. strong hands squeezed shoulders as he brushed by strangers and acquaintances alike and he's almost out, can taste the dust in the air, when lux blocked his path. instead of his usual boyish grin, he huffed a sigh. “i'm a little busy.” his hands found his hips, eyes briefly met hers before they search the crowd behind her for someone he already knows isn't there. “you're just gonna have to resist my good looks and charm for one more night, alright?”

"Yeah, gotta say, didn't appreciate that one." As a schoolteacher, he had to keep things PG-13, even when he was off the clock.

He can't really fathom why she would be... but then again, she's been slowly pulling away and clearly something has got to give, here. The smile drops from his lips and his eyebrows furrow in concern, care lacing his voice. "Tommy... what's up? Look.. I know things have been a bit... wild with me and Wes. But. I'm really happy, you know? I'm... I don't know. I'm feeling something I've never felt before, you know?"

"five  times  a  week,"  a  quick  flex  of  his  biceps,  because  if  nothing  else,  julian  has  always  been  extremely  VAIN.  "not  the  point,"  he  quickly  recovers,  index  finger  pointed  out  toward  heath  in  a  scolding  manner.  "stop  trying  to  distract  me."  brows  draw  closer  together,  and  for  a  moment  he  has  trouble  deciphering  what  exactly  he's  mad  about.  was  it  the  fish  ?  or  was  it  the  fact  that  his  friend  withdrew  for  an  unreasonable  amount  of  time,  taking  their  fish  with  him  ?  "FOR  A  WHOLE  MONTH  ?"  he  asks,  face  entirely  gobsmacked  as  heath  explains  himself.  his  easy  concession  eases  his  irritation,  only  to  replace  it  with  worry.  "the  fuck's  going  on  with  you,  bro  ?"

❛  oh,  i  can  tell.  ❜   he  agrees  with  enthusiasm,  beholding  julian's  muscles  with  all  the  zeal  of  a  2000s  boyband  fan.   ❛  you  must  have  an  impressive  workout  regimen,  you  should  tell  me  more  about  it.  ❜   but  with  each  word,  heath  feels  the  guilt  pile  on  top  of  him,  finding  himself  doing  the  one  thing  he  promised  teddy  he  wouldn't  do  –  dodge  the  truth.  if  he  was  going  to  continue  to  be  a  better  friend  to  her,  he  should  extend  the  same  courtesy  to  his  other  friends,  too.   ❛  okay,  you  got  me!  ❜   palms  go  up  in  defense,  sigh  leaving  his  body.   ❛  i've  been  having  a  bit  of  a  bad  time,  ❜   sugar  coats  it  for  both  of  their  sakes,  lest  they  get  into  heath's  entire  tapestry  of  mistakes  mid-set,   ❛  and  sometimes  seeing  his  little  face  when  i  got  back  from  work  was  all  that  kept  me  going.  i'm  sorry,  i  am.  really,  really  sorry.  i  was  being  a  selfish  paren– uh, friend.  ❜

“you were watching me? aw, laaark…” eyes twinkling, grin impossibly wide. one hand that had hovered between them now rests against his chest. stupidly, he wonders what he’d have to do to get her hand there. it’d probably have to be some sort of supernatural possession, a freaky friday situation. “how old do they need to be to be considered vintage?” he asks, twisting around to give her more angles to admire from.
