Gaboon vipers are actually well known for initially not being able to recognize standing water. They need movement to recognize water sources, at least at first- especially with newly imported WC specimen that may be severely dehydrated. This method is a good way to ensure the snake is drinking without putting yourself in dangerous proximity to it.

Judging from the background and the method of watering, I’m quite confident in saying this is a clip from Viperkeeper, who is well known for specialising in venomous snakes. I think he knows what he is doing when he waters them! (Watch his videos - his green mambas are so cute!)

Edit: his videos are very interesting as he wears a POV cam, so you see what he sees and all the different species he works with :D I love VK!

It’s definitely VK, I recognize that moment. This isn’t just a gabby thing, a lot of WC animals face dehydration and it can even be a common problem for CB chondros. When I started keeping my import gonyo pair I had to keep them with a cat fountain so they’d recognize the water as a safe source to drink. For my chondros and baby gonyos I’m gently checking their skin elasticity pretty routinely and will either lead them to the fresh waterbowl or physically taking them to the sink to make sure they’re hydrating.
