@64-jungle-planks
sex-repulsed people are fully within our rights to be cranky and blunt about not liking sex and how it's fucking everywhere btw. we shouldn't have to tiptoe around and make sure our phrasing is perfectly squeaky clean because people interpret any criticism of sex and sexualization as puritanism. venting about compulsory sexuality is not purity culture. maybe you could stand to learn a thing or two from us.
Toby Fox was like shiiiittt they be liking my Guys too much I need to create someone so inconceivably unlikable the mere sight of him inspires fury and distaste in those of pure. Bring in the Anime Twink

Sexuality Headcanon: gay gay gay
Gender Headcanon: trans man he/him
what can i say. his rebellious and rambunctious nature speaks to me
A ship I have with said character: my fw traffic light trio isnt necessarily romantic but i like to draw them near eachother, i have an au where it makes sense but i get so shy posting about AU things.... that au is much more shilo focused though so not much to say for fastbak there yet
A BROTP I have with said character: krakkl! reason: they are both fast and i like them. tbf while speed is their strong point it also pushes them both to questionable decisions, im sure they could cross paths (hopefully in a non-lethal race this time!)
A NOTP I have with said character: i dont think there are fastbak ships in existence
A random headcanon: i actually think he avoids supertown for a bit after returning post-starman jail arc... either spending time on the surface or maybe causing a little trouble on earth, anywhere he can use his aero-pads freely (i know he does various earth things in the 90s but i cant remember which were before and after that arc - i think attending guy’s party was before, stealing the FP’s supercycle to race against superboy was after...?)
General Opinion over said character: i like fastbak a lot, he’s a liiittle quippy but not as much as the usual speedsters. i think also bc rather than having natural powers he uses tech & hes driven by an obsession for speed, which is usually a villainous trait. despite that, his 2nd appearance has him use his speed to save esak. all those things make him really stand out to me among the dc speedsters!
PLUG: hes only in like 20 comics- dcuguide has a list of Fastbak’s appearances chronologically here (link). the DC wiki’s appearance list also includes encyclopedia’s and cameos he’s appeared in here (link).
[ID: Coloured sketch of Fastbak from DC Comics, flying against a blue background. There is an air trail behind him. End ID]
i was going to do messy lines and nice colouring but i like this one so i think i will finish it for real this summer..!
I have arrived to speak my truth about Orion New Gods
I’m so gay for him. I have it so unbelievably bad for Orion and Lightray- but Orion is the main star most definitely. He’s beautiful, even without the Motherbox’s makeup which makes his story that much more interesting and so very much more attractive akin to the Erik from Phantom of the Opera. He believes his true face is too monstrous to be seen, so he hides himself under a mask to be more presentable to the people around him. I love the nature v nurture part of his story and I love that he throws himself into things for no reason other than to help others.
Orion is also just.. good. He tries his hardest to be good, to judge right. Also, a common thread that I adore between him and Guy is that they always seem to get in the way of themselves. I love there's shoulderpads on his fit, I love when he rides around on his Astro-harness and looks like Crazy Frog. To top it off, Orion is voiced by both Steve Sandor (Superman: Animated Series) and Ron Perlman (Justice League, Justice League Unlimited), both rich baritone voices I'm crazy about.
… also have you seen Bekka?? Orion’s wife?? She’s so hot too. Oh my god she’s beautiful and so kind and wonderful I love her. I love her dark hair (Hunger Dogs era) and her headpiece
Mooney as always you speak the absolute truth about every haracter you come to my inbox with and I'm so very grateful that you share them with us all; truly I love this character analysis and deep-dive into him :]
Y'all ever think about how Guy will never have the person he was back again?
He was permanently damaged by a bus that hit him, protecting his students. He worked to get to the point where he smoothed down all of the jagged edges he built up to protect him from his father and his brother so that he could be a source of comfort for kids like him. He worked to become a man he was proud to be.
And that man died when that bus collided with him. He lost his personality and all the work he did to get there.
He once again just became that "annoying Gardner" that he never wanted to be again. He basically regressed to his teenage self, the one who bit and snarled at whoever was closest to prove he didn't need anyone. And he'll never get that version of himself back.
He'll never be the man that kids ran to with a "Mr. Gardner!", excited to see him after a school break. He'll never be the man that the queer kids came to for comfort, who ate lunch in his room because they knew he'd never judge them. He'll never be the man who held his students as they cried because god knows their father never would. He'll never be the man who people knew they could rely on.
But he was that man.
I think that every single time someone makes a snide comment or he says something stupid that hurts someone, he hides the immediate guilt from his face. Because he used to be a man who people who lean on and he never will be that person again.
I also think that he doesn't care, because he can go online and see the kids he saved grow up to have lives, families, and a world and know that it's all okay. Because Mr. Gardner died that day, but these kids were able to live.

I've been thinking about this for a while but like, Guy should hate Batman. and like, he should really fucking hate Batman
the most obvious reason is that Guy hates Bruce because Bruce poses a threat to Guy's own confidence and ego, but I think Guy should be thiiiiis close to getting over himself and tolerating Bruce, only then for him to full on rage against Bruce for what he does to his Robins
see, I think the Robins are kinda just... accepted as a norm in the DC world? and Guy doesn't run in Gotham, he doesn't really deal with the concept of Robin other than 'Bats had a weird multicoloured sidekick', who he never really sees but assumes they're a young adult, but when he finally looks a bit closer, he realises that Batman has groomed MULTIPLE children into fighting crime alongside him, more than one of them being an orphan (!!!) and Bruce is so wrapped up in himself that he can't really see how his status as one of the most iconic vigilantes in the world (as well as being a billionaire with Cool Gadgets TM and, um, food on the table and a roof over their heads) would have an insane effect on any teenager who wanted to be loved and accepted by a father/ mentor. Bruce can't see these kids looking up to him as the only stabilising force in their lives and understand how fucked up it is to manipulate them into a life of crime fighting and constant danger, because that's the only life Bruce has ever felt alive in and the one he chose for himself, which he's now projecting onto a young and impressionable protege
and Guy would be this 🤏 close to saying 'I hate Batman but whatever, I'll keep the peace so we don't blow up the JL every time I'm in the same room as him' and for him to do a complete 180 and for the JL to fall apart at the seams because Guy fully grasped the gravity of Batman's relationship with Robins past and present and he has to be restrained by Diana/ Clark because the social worker in Guy would beat the ever loving shit out of Bruce for grooming ORPHANS (did I mention a lot of them are orphans), Green Lantern ring and all
and he would look at everyone else and then ask them if they're okay with this, if they're fine with Batman fighting seasoned villains with a 14 year old in tow, and the more astute and aware members of the JL would have confront the fact that it was Guy Gardner who pointed out the elephant in the room and made a really good fucking point against Batman. it was Guy Gardner who said the quiet part out loud. it was Guy Fucking Gardner whose moral compass wouldn't let him stay silent and complicit
basically what I'm saying is, Guy Gardner/ Jason Todd solidarity
Oh mein gott its the original fucking post

@creekfiend was very kind in sharing some writing resources with me, and I thought I'd pass along the kindness by listing them down below.
N.K. Jemisin's article 'Describing characters of color in writing'
Mary Anne Mohanraj's article on approaching characters of colour
Renee Harleston's article How to 'Write Characters of Color Without Using Stereotypes'
Working with Colour, a resource site for writers
the book Writing the Other by by Nisi Shawl and Cynthia Ward, which had a description that cut deep, because I've definitely fallen into this trap out of fear:
and then a video recommended by @sheprd (thank you!) about pitfalls in descriptive language
if anyone else has more resources to add, feel free to reblog with them! this is something I want to learn more about.
I was talking yesterday about how I should probably change the skin colour of a character in a not-yet-written book, because that character is a large, aggressive dragon-shifter and I was worried about her being read with unintentional and offensive subtext.
I haven't gotten my hands on Writing the Other yet (it's still in the mail!) but from reading my way through these articles and watching the Princess Weekes video, I now understand that 'white-ifying' a character you're worried about is a lazy and cowardly solution. so, if I do ever finish the book Eres loses Everything, I'll keep her as is, do my best to be thoughtful, and hire a sensitivity reader to pick out any blind spots.
thank you to everyone who passed on resources, I really appreciate it!
here are a few more resources I've found, if anyone’s interested:

Orion
The hero known as Orion is a New God from the Planet Apokolips. He is the son of the noblewoman Tigra and the dread lord Darkseid, ruler of all Apokolips. He was born during the height of the centuries-long war between the godlings of the dual worlds New Genesis and Apokolips. This war had eventually proven untenable and a treaty was formed to bring about a tenuous peace. As a part of this pact, the leaders of the two factions agreed to trade sons. Orion was sent to be raised by Highfather of New Genesis, while Highfather’s son was sent to be raised on Apokolips.
Growing up in the peaceful and serene setting of New Genesis, Orion had to work hard to suppress his angry, savage nature. He would often use a MotherBox to ease his anger. Said MotherBox is a small living computer connect to the unlimited power of the great Source Wall. Although temporary, the computer proved effective in soothing Orion’s rage as well as the effect his emotions have on his physical features.
Possessing the inborn might and savagery passed on by his biological father, coupled with the wisdom and grace of his adopted father, Orion would go on to become the greatest champion of both worlds. He volunteered himself to travel to earth when it was discovered Darkseid had broken the treaty and was seeking out the Anti-Life Equation on the human world. Orion protected Earth from the forces of Apokolips, allying himself with Superman, Wonder Woman and The Justice League.
Orion later married Bekka, the daughter of Himmon and a fierce warrior in her own right. After aiding the Justice League in defeating the cosmic menace of Starro the Conquerer, Orion agreed to stay on for a time as a member of the League.
Orion has appeared in a number of DC animated projects, voiced by actors Ron Perlman, Steve Sandor and Benjamin Diskin. The hero first appeared in the pages of The New Gods Vol. 1 #1 (1971).
A group of rough looking boys walked past me today and all I heard of their conversation was “he’s got that anxiety disorder bro so I went with him so he’d be more comfortable” and it made me realise the world isn’t all that bad
#this is team skull
The pet store I worked at had a pen with rabbits near the front door. On every side of the pen were huge signs saying “You can pet me, but don’t pick me up!” One day two absolutely huge guys came in and one immediately reaches into the pen to grab a rabbit. Before i could say anything his friend grabbed his arm and asked him “did you see the sign?” He said “yeah! it says that you can pick them up but don’t pet them!” Then he went quiet for a moment and softly said “I didn’t read it right did I?” And his friend just puts his arm on his shoulder and said “its ok, i know you’ve got that thing where words get mixed up. Let just pet these cute lil shits” And I still haven’t gotten over that interaction.
I was walking my dog through Boston bc he likes the likes car rides. He’s a little thing tbh we call him short and long. So this huge scary man with a full beard approaches me like “hey can my buddy and I pet your dog? He gets nervous around dogs but your’s is so small I think it’s a good place to start.” Ofc I was like “yes he’s very friendly!” So this guy brings his equally big friend over and they sit on the floor while this man looks terrified of my tiny dog so big man number one asks “can I pick him up?” And i say yes so he picks him up and puts him on man number two’s lap and man number two is abt to freak out and his friend straight up just goes “hey man, it’s okay just relax I’d never let anything hurt you. He’s a good boy.” I’ll never forget it ever bc I know that man looked at me (5'3 , glasses, probably wearing a sweater vest) and my dog (kinda goofy looking little thing) and was like ‘ah yes the two least intimidating living things I’ve seen in Boston all day he’ll feel relaxed around them’ and went out of his way to help his friend. It makes me so happy
My husband had this Dungeons and Dragons group ages ago, and one of the guys was TERRIFIED of cats. The moment he sees one he freezes up and can barely breathe. Said guy is almost seven feet tall and solid wall of muscle. Whenever he came over I’d put the cats in the bedroom and chill out with a book because my cats don’t like being shut away without one of us.
One of my cats was pawing at the door and meowing loudly, an indication she REALLY needs to use the litter box. I let her out and decide, hey, I’m hungry, and decide to the kitchen. I forgot to shut the bedroom door.
Next thing I hear is the group going completely silent. My husband very calmly asks me to come over and help him gather our two cats up. I go over to where the group is and my black cat, Cacoa, is rubbing up against the guy’s leg, purring, and doing her “let me on your lap” meow. The other cat, Jasper, is sitting at the window, chilling out. I go over and pick up Cacoa and tell the big dude she’s harmless, loves laps, and would be thrilled if he pet her. Very slowly he touches my cat’s face, and she leans right into his hand. He then pets her back and sighs because she’s really soft and purring like mad. After a few minutes he asks how to pick her up and if it’s okay if she sits on his lap.
He spent the next six hours spoiling my cat. The next week he showed up with cat treats and toys because he fell in love with the cats. He told me he was doing some research on house cats, and even talked to a vet about them. A couple months later he adopted two cats and was as thrilled and excited as a new parent.
Oh no a new one!!!
Blessed post.
I used to work at this stable for icelandic horses and every now and then this man would turn up by the field to just watch the horses. One time I walked by him as I was going to get the horses inside, and he went ”I always wanted to learn how to ride but I’m afraid of horses because they’re so huge. If I could ride ponies like this, maybe I’d dare but now I’m too big and heavy for them.” You should have seen his face when I told them that actually they’re not ponies, just small horses and they could totally carry him. His face just lit up. Next thing I’m helping him to get on back. Today he knows how to ride.
A few years ago my sister and I were in Daytona Beach, and we saw this huge, burly biker. Looked like the stereotypical biker: big black beard, the goggles, leather, and a bandana. He also had a baby carrier, and in that baby carrier was a tiny little orange Pomeranian. We complimented his dog and he said, in one of the deepest voices I’ve ever heard, “thanks, his name’s Little Bear!” And he told us about how he’d take Little Bear out on his motorcycle everyday and how much the dog loved it.
Such a lovely post.
I’m not even putting this in the museum, it shall run free and collect more lovely stories.
