The Dalek Invasion of Earth is like WHO WOULD WIN: an entire dalek invasion fleet with years of planning and science and construction vs a high school science teacher from the 1960s with a big stick
the moral of The Dalek Invasion of Earth is that you can achieve anything if you have a big enough stick 🙂
if you wanna get technical i suppose it's actually several big sticks

Absolutely intrigued as to why Disney stopped partnering with the BBC on doctor who... I bet there's some gossip there.
That said, I'm just glad to see the back of the corporate monstrosity, and hope that future doctor who will be bubble wrap and green paint, as the show should be.
Just rewatched the last three episodes of the nuwho season with Donna and I think my now formed opinion on RTD's writing is that he peaked with Turn Left (iffy Asian stereotyping at the start besides), and it's sort of funny cause he's been chasing that high ever since hasn't he?
average first doctor episode title: the italians
average second doctor episode title: the scary monsters
average third doctor episode title: mitosis of the daleks
average fourth doctor episode title: the apocalypse of death
average fifth doctor episode title: zarpegis
average sixth doctor episode title: explosion
average seventh doctor episode title: the cool awesomeness
thinking about her (13th doctor)
Absolutely love how many people have enjoyed the Adric art. Didn't know he had so many fans! I should draw him again, shouldn't I?
this gif still brings me so much joy
#I have ranted about this at length and if I don't take the opportunity to do it every time this gif comes up assume I have died#like this might be my singular favorite moment in this entire franchise???????????#in and of itself I mean#like there's always this really overblown relationship between them and it's done that way deliberately#but I felt like they never really nailed home the fact that THEY WERE CHILDHOOD FRIENDS#and yeah twelve and missy were an interesting combo#but this specific moment is so so childish!!!!!!#like not only does thirteen absolutely snap#and commit an act of physical violence despite repeatedly preaching pacifism and non violent means#(eg venusian akido)#(and yeah all the doctors are like this pm)#but the actual act itself is so childish!!!!!!!#like she doesn't punch him or anything of the sort she PUSHES him#it's the most childish act possible#it's bastard on bastard violence and it's an absolutely perfect moment for both characters @thesearchforbluejello
How much of Classic Who have you seen?
None
A few episodes, but less than a full serial
1-3 serials
Under 50 episodes but more than 3 serials
I watched all episodes for a specific Doctor
50-100 episodes
101-250 episodes
251-450 episodes
I’ve watched 451+ episodes, but none of the below apply to me
I’ve watched episodes in color
I’ve watched all non-missing episodes
I’ve watched every single Doctor Who episode ever to air
Five is like, the Doctor felt his fourth incarnation was too loud & ostenatious & rude he regenerated into the nicest & politest Doctor imaginable 🙂 he is so so nice and polite and inoffensive 🙂 look at how whimsical and boyish he is 🙂look at him sniling so sneetly you can't stay mad at that face 🙂and then the teenager he adopted explodes and dies and he's like haha whoops!! oh well can't be helped 🙂 eventually he dies and all his repressed rage explodes out and becomes Six, who is a cunt
#I do enjoy the analytical continuous doctor theories-- i.e that each doctor is a continuum that affects the next incarnation #it's a very fun way to read them #and I will say. five's weird almost-repressed reaction to adric's death is intriguing in that context #I mean point-blank repeatedly shooting a cyber-leader goes beyond self defence when you've already suffocated him with the gold star badge. #and yet. #the violence? very abrupt and shocking #then he immediately goes back to being restrained and 'oh well' about things #one could read that in many ways#I kind of read him as putting up a polite front that's almost cruel in its detachment #classic stiff upper lip british stuff #by the time turlough rolls around it's like adric was never there #but then. I wonder if in this analytical system there's anything to be read about the fact that adric was four's companion to start with #and four didn't seem to like the boy much #could that have affected five's attitude towards the little orphan fishman?#one wonders
tbh I've always just taken it as read that the Doctor's personality in each regeneration is influenced by the previous regen in some way. interesting to speculate 4-5-6 is a particularly dramatic swing around in this regard i think.
i think he shoots the Cyberleader a full 9 times point blank, the last 3 after he's collapsed to the ground and clearly fatally injured or already dead. absolutely ocld blooded. worth noting that at that point Adric wasn't dead yet and the Doctor presumably didn't know for certain that he wouldn't be able to save him.
interestingly I wanna say the script for Mawdryn Undead has an aside saying the Doctor takes Turlough in board in part bcos he's thinking of Adric? so there's that.
have to disagree that Four didn't like Adric. during the e-space trilogy he's talking wistfully about how much Adric would love Gallifrey and then by Logopolis he's taught him all kinds of technical details about the TARDIS. they've got a whole mentor/protege thing going on that seems to kind of collapse after the regeneration.
I suppose it's easy to read four as not liking anyone other than Romana II much, cause Tom Baker's personality shines through so very hard at certain points (especially around Lalla Ward). I do think their (Adric and Four's) relationship was contentious in its own way because Adric was easily too damn smart for Four the big ego man. And, like, the show goes to many lengths to lampoon Four for his assertions about various things being easily reasserted/corrected/overshadowed by Romana, so I think his contention was intentional. But, he is still the Doctor, and he still saw that poor boy go through everything he did back home on Alzarius so he does still care. I don't think he hates or disdains Adric... I just think he's a bit threatened by him tbh. :D
Thanks for the thoughts! I like a bit of discussion :D

also the fifth doctor really does like to grab and drag the female companions a lot doesn't he? I'm interested to see if this continues into the sixth doctor's run..........
so it takes until Frontios to find out anything about Turlough's history as an alien, but not his species' name, his first name, what the planet's called nor anything else. just that they hate psychic woodlice (tbf they are pretty awful) 👍
may actually do some short summaries on my thoughts about the serials/episodes I've plodded through tbh............................. but not yet. Need to ponder more.
One thing I do know: Talons of Weng-Chiang is getting a fuckin unwatchable rating from me because it is just... so racist. So many slurs in it. If your serial is directly based on the already-too-racist-for-1920 film fu manchu, then it is is simply too racist.

on a NuWho watch-through and I am now drawing a direct comparison between Black Orchid (colonial undertones, set in a lavish manor house paid for by colonial theft, singular nonwhite character who dies for the point of the story, based around early 20th century literature (fictionalised accounts of colonial adventures through 'savage' jungles)) and The Unicorn and the Wasp. (see above. but with agatha christie's fiction instead) Don't get me wrong, I enjoy that series of NuWho and the sense of activity and excitement the stories had... but there's definitely a 'the more things change, the more they stay the same' feel to it, at least in my opinion.
