Hello, my name is Boots. Thank you for stopping by! Welcome to Tin Roof 😅 this blog covers the broad comings and goings of my homesteading hobbit lifestyle. I garden and keep birds out of necessity, to keep my family fed in a food desert, but I name and love them because they bring me joy. I try to be completely honest about my failures and successes. Rainy day babies

We had some tornados last week, and one of my neighbors got hit pretty bad. They lost 2 barns, but luckily nobody was hurt and none of their livestock was hurt either. And im talking massive barns, twice the size of my house each, massive barns. I saw all that damage and felt pity. I texted my other neighbor about it and he saw opportunity. Within 24 hours I saw 4 work crews they had gathered at their farm clean up the damage. I dont know them personally, but id be willing to bet those work crews were mostly made up of extended family. Sure there were friend and community members, but with a farm as old as that id expect them to have an extensive family network.

So Boots, what's the point? Well the thought i had is, im out here alone. 4 hours from the nearest family member by highway. Im already settled, but if youre someone who follows my blog in a manifesting way I think distance is an important thing to consider.

Theres something to be said for cheap land far away. But I really think when it comes down to it, the closer you are to your family (whatever that looks like) the better off you probably will be. Unless youre a serious social butterfly, building a new community in a rural area is hard. People are friendly and willing to help, but reciprocation is expected. Relationships take work without labor debts and borrowing heavy machinery, and get to be a serious area of upkeep with it.

And as a blue speck in a red sea, this means masking myself and my values to survive.

I was sick for 4 days and my garden absolutely exploded with weeds. Fml

One of my goals this garden season has been to take out one 5 gallon bucket of weeds every day to be fed to the birds. So far im taking out like 5 full buckets every day! Weeding has been a struggle area for me in the past and im actually really proud of myself for knocking this goal out of the park

Idk. I guess I just think its weird that mother's are paying $55 for a can of formula and the churches are getting new siding.
