@tinybugcrawling
Peter is very mature for his age. Most people who say that mean it as a compliment.
But there are things Peter misses that he didn’t even have— school dances, mundane responsibilities, a good night’s sleep. The chance to be a kid. To be dumb and mess up. To not care.
It’s something Tony understands— he graduated MIT at 17 and became CEO of a global company at 21. It’s a type of grief that’s difficult to explain to other people; mourning simple things you weren’t meant for, simple things erased for the sake of something “greater”.
So he tries to go easy on him, whenever he can. He tries to give him small and simple things— all the little scenes he skipped over when he was young, when he was being rushed into the future.
i'm totally back in my irondad phase right now so here are some of my favorite head cannons!!!
they both have stupid names and contact pictures for each other. Peter was mortified when Tony found out, until the man himself casually switched his name from "Peter P." to something stupid like bug boy. and now they're constantly updating each other's contact to whatever relevant bit they have going on
Peter tries (and fails) to teach Tony all the current pop culture and media references, and Tony tries (and succeeds) to teach Peter the classic films and rock bands. the result is a Black Sabbath obsessed Peter and a Tony who embarrasses him by purposefully miss-using trending lingo ("clock in" "mister stark, its clock IT" "tomato, tamato")
they get each other the way most people don't. losing their parents, super-geniuses, super-heroes, bad self-preservation skills. they help each other heal in a lot of ways and they don't even realize
Tony has a wide array of nicknames for Peter. Kid, kiddo, Spidey, webs, buddy, squirt, etc. Peter's catalog of nicknames for Tony consists of "Mr. Stark" and, on some very rare occurrences, "Tony" he's called him Anthony once, when he was pissed off, and Tony was so taken aback he was for once in his life speechless
seeing Peter hurt scares Tony beyond belief, so he always attempts to lighten the kids mood and joke around. seeing Tony hurt reminds Peter of uncle ben and his parents, so its one of the few times where he is 100% stone cold serious
they have countless inside jokes that have stemmed from too many late nights in the lab and long missions. sometimes its like they're speaking their own language, so everyone else just gives up on trying to make sense of it
Tony gave up drinking after Civil War. the only reason he never relapsed or even considered picking up the bottle again is because of the kid. not only does he want to be a better role model, but he is terrified of becoming his own father, of messing up what they have
Peter is the reason Tony and pepper ultimately decided to have Morgan. he showed him how capable he could be as a father and how much he wanted to be a dad
Peter refuses to let Tony replace is worn down or broken things, so the man just slips them in when he can. "hey kid, you want this hoodie? its a bit small on me." "SI is doing a partnership with some watch brand, we got some lying around. Why don't you take one home?" "Im thinking of adding some stuff to my phone in the lab. you want an upgrade, Webs?" Peter catches on after a while, but never protests. he's learned that this is one of the ways that Tony shows he cares, so he accepts it and is grateful
sorry this is so long, I just love them and miss them so much ugh. please give your own head cannons or thoughts if you like!!
nearly forgot to post this onto my tumblr today (im so used to just posting to IG and then being done but i must now take care of my tumblr page too hehe)
Spiderman
Having a "stupider people have done this" attitude about the things you want to do can open so many doors
nostalgia at its peak (fanart from ancient books aka year 2020)
Spider-Man by Alex Maleev
Peter's phone keeps vibrating where he left it on the workshop desk to get snacks, and Tony really wasn't trying to snoop—he was just going to mute it. Really. Truly actually very absolutely did not intend to see who was blowing up the kid's phone, until the phone lit up with another text as he was putting it to silent mode.
Pookie 😍😚
PLS BABY WHERE R U 😭🙏💔💔
Tony pauses out of sheer shock, more texts still rolling in.
Pookie 😍😚
YOU PROMISED ME 6PM ITS LITERALLY 6:02 WHY DO YOU HATE MEEEE
ur lucky ur so handsome otherwise I'd blow your house up 💖
but srsly gumdrop I'm spiralling, I need you 🥺🥺🥺
Should Tony be concerned? Tony is very concerned.
The teen in question strolls on in with his hand in a bag of pretzels, not a care in the world.
The phone is still vibrating in Tony's hand.
"Pete?"
"Mhm?" Peter hums, still focused on stuffing his mouth to the absolute brim.
"Why didn't you tell me about your girlfriend?"
His pursed and salted lips freeze, making eye contact with Tony before slowly setting the snack bag down.
"Ma wha?"
The phone vibrates once more, and this time both Peter and Tony's gazes drop to it.
Tony moves the phone behind his back a millisecond before Peter makes a lunge for it.
"Hey!"
Tony spins away from his grabby hands to read the screen.
"Who's 'Pookie', with a heart eyes emoji and kissy face emoji then?"
"It's not—! Oh. That's just Ned."
"You're dating Ned? Which is fine...actually no, it's not! Boy or girl, talking to you like this is not healthy."
"What?"
Tony lets the phone go without protest this time, Peter's mild confusion soothing his worry as opposed to the sharp defensiveness earlier that had only tightened Tony's grip on the device. Peter isn't shy about texting the other boy back in plain view either, showing the barrage of missed texts, emojis, and exclamations that had nearly vibrated the phone off the table.
"Oh shoot, I promised Ned we'd do fortnite duos tonight and I'm late."
"What is that? Like a Gen-z version of samba?"
Peter huffs out a laugh as he types furiously. "It's a video game where we shoot people. Ned is just my best friend, that's how we talk."
"That is not how best friends talk."
"Tell that to your platypus."
"I—okay, that's different. It's teasing, not romantic." Tony argues as he thinks about his and Rhodey's friendship.
"How? You literally kiss him."
Peter sets the phone back down as he goes to collect his backpack, shoving papers and spare parts chaotically into his bag.
"On the cheek! ...If I don't miss."
Peter throws the strap over his shoulder and heads over to the abandoned pretzel bag, fisting the crinkling plastic closed temporarily to snack on the way home.
"Okayyyy. Just saying, flirting with your bros is standard behaviour. No need to get your iron undies in a twist."
Scoffing, Tony lets the fight go. Even if Ned was being serious he's the most harmless kid on the planet, Spider-Man could take him. Iron Man definitely could.
The phone lights up on the desk in front of Tony one last time, Peter's returned presence seemingly not enough to sooth his clingy friend.
Shrimp breath 🦐
You looked stupid in calculus today.
"Does nobody in your generation communicate normally? For all I know this is your girlfriend."
Peter hums curiously, looking over Tony's shoulder at the screen.
The phone is snatched away and shoved into the back pocket of Peter's jeans before the screen even has time to fade to black.
"Heh, funny. Anyways I gotta go. Promised Ned I'd call him five minutes ago, y'know, but I'll see you next week!"
His flushed face turns away and into the elevator in the blink of an eye, but Tony can still see how bright red the boy's ears have turned.
A metaphorical lightbulb ticks on above the man's head at the same time the elevator doors chime shut.
"Holy shit, that was actually his girlfriend."

(MJ saying he looked stupid = saying he looked really good 🤭 major flirt alert!)
this too shall pass but the fuck was that for
peter!!! gets to school and he sends happy his daily five thousand messages!!! and he’s distracting himself at every possible opportunity! he's watching youtube in class. he's talking to ned about legos. he's going about the day and he’s gotta move, he’s tapping his toe and he's looking back at the clock every few minutes. he's excited and itching to just burst out the door and put that suit on. (i bet the reason why he quit so many extracurriculars was so that there were less things keeping him from getting to the end of that school day.)
but then the last school bell rings and he’s fuckin outta there! he buys his silly little sandwich and pets the silly little cat and makes silly little conversation with mr delmar and then he’s grinning because FINALLY, he’s able to dip into an alley and go on patrol.
and yeah, he has a fucking blast doing it. he’s whooping and hollering through the air, he's balancing on tightropes that he goes out of his way to make with webs, and he's leaving little notes for people, and he's helping the lost citizens with their directions, and he's doing flips for people who ask. and near the end of the night, he leaves happy his voicemail patrol log.
he's fifteen, and he has so much fun being spider-man.
it's a natural part of growing up to yearn for more. it's a natural part of growing up to miss when things were so easy.
Good for them!
Complaining to con organisers about a non-porn photo of someone who does porn is really begging for a “what were YOU doing at the devil’s sacrament?”
something I really enjoy about canonical irondad interactions is how calmly they speak to eachother, esp in infinity war
in the midst of battle they’re just hashing out exposition basically. peter asks what the deal is, tony explains very bluntly that “he’s from space. he’s here to steal a necklace from a wizard.” that’s all the context needed!
even when things escalate, like when peter is being dragged upwards into the ship, they’re still calm. peter exclaims he’s “being beamed up” (not serious language, but direct and to the point) and tony immediately understands and focuses back on a solution.
and I think that’s part of why peter is able to be calm about it, because tony is notoriously very calm. he listens, he gives an eyeroll, he says something back in a very dry, blaśe manner, and for the majority; he doesn’t let anyone see when he’s actually startled by something.
also, peter always trusts him to find a solution, because tony, notoriously, always does.
problem -> his kid is dangling off a spaceship that’s rapidly exiting atmosphere
(and this is where it gets interesting, because when the people tony loves are genuinely in danger, he gets very serious. no room for pop culture, no sarcasm, no joke. just short and to the point, stating exact directions for his solution)
solution -> “Pete, you gotta let go. I’m gonna catch you.”
so peter lets go. because he also trusts tony to always catch him.
peter with absolutely absurd grip strength.
It’s not the stickiness. He thought it was at first, when he was testing his powers out. He thought his newfound vice grip was something to do with the stickiness. But he has control over that, and he can still hold stuff far too tight when he’s not trying to stick to it.
It’s useful, sometimes. When he’s walking across the lunchroom terrified someone’s gonna smack his tray out his hands. It’s useful when Flash tries to pull Peter’s bag out of his hand and Peter manages to snatch it back and hold tight. It’s useful for walking through crowds with MJ, holding her with the complete certainty that nothing could break his grip and separate them.
It’s less useful when he’s got a fistful of Aunt May’s shirt as she dies and he feels like he can’t let go of it, no matter how hard he tries. It’s not the stickiness. His muscles shake, his fingers feel frozen, the veins in his wrist pop out. The stickiness takes no effort, it’s easy to release. But letting go of May, knowing full well that he had the physical strength to drag what remains of her with him, was the most difficult thing he’s done.
