This is a very important moment establishing the true nature of Kylo Ren:

He is Ben Solo, he is not like Vader, not one bit. Snoke compares him to a child where the mask helps him pretend to be something he is not, and that despite trying to give everything to the Dark side he remains : young Solo in the eyes of his abuser.

This moment also accentuates the broken nature of Kylo Ren / Ben Solo : split, imbalanced, and how he needs to be made whole.  So let me be clear, that Ben Solo will not a lose a limb, because his story is about finally being himself, his true self, and metaphorically you can not convey this message by breaking him physically.

The idea of a punishment required, physical or emotional is in my opinion a complete misunderstanding of where the story is meant to take us. Ben Solo is inverse Anakin, not a copy.

Hope lives because of Ben Solo and his father’s heart. <3
