Victoria gets into a bad fight with her mom, leaving her to storm off outside. Trinity follows her and makes sure she's alright.
can anyone tell i rewatched brother bear last night and sobbed my eyes out like its them guys
“Dr. Javadi, may I speak with you?”
Victoria didn’t even need to look up to know it was her mother coming downstairs to likely lecture her again.
“Fine.” She gets up and follows Dr. Shamsi to a quiet corner of the ED where no doctors or patients were around.
“So. Psychiatry.”
Shit. She found out from dad.
Victoria nods. She intertwines her hands to try and keep them from shaking. "I-yes. It's what I'm good at. I enjoy making sure people are okay and Jefferson is so helpful with-"
Shamsi holds up a hand to stop her. "So you'd rather work with crazy people then go up to surgery, alright." She sighs and glances around the hospital.
"They're not craz-"
"You're better than this, Victoria."
Better than this? Then what? Surgery? Victoria groans and clenches her fists.
"I don't want to go into surgery, okay mom? Why can't you just accept that?" She was tired of having to explain this to Eileen over and over. She wasn't a child anymore.
"All of that was you! I worked my ass off to be here, and you still treat me like-"
Shamsi gets angrier and puts a hand on her face. "You're younger than a lot of the doctors here Victoria, I'm just worried that you're being influenced to-"
"JUST STOP!" Victoria screams. A few heads turn to look at them, including Trinity who was already looking over concerned when the two walked by.
Don't cry Victoria. You're too old to cry in front of your mom. Don't cry. Don't cry. Don't-
A tear slips down her face that she immediately wipes. "Just- stop mom, okay?" She whimpers quietly. "For once in your life just butt out."
She storms off, hiding her face full of tears as she walks down the hallway. She walks out by the ambulance bay and just keeps walking. Where to, she doesn't know.
The shift was gonna end soon so nobody would be looking for her.
She ends up on a quiet street with a row of brownstones and sits at one of those elevated flower beds surrounded by cobblestone.
So stupid.
She starts sobbing and covering her face. Luckily the sidewalk was quiet, not too many people walking past this evening. She sniffles and pulls her hood over her head. Cassie was out of town due to a distant relative passing, so once again she'd be going back to her parent's place, alone.
The rain starts sprinkling after a few minutes. She looks at her watch. 7:01. She should probably head ba-
An umbrella appears over her head, and Victoria looks up confused until she sees Trinity looking at her concerned. "I, I saw that thing with your mom. You okay?"
Victoria shakes her head. "No. I- no. Why did I yell at her? She's probably gonna kick me out."
Trinity takes a seat next to her and holds the umbrella between her. "She can't kick you out Vic, you work at the same hospital." She nudges Victoria's shoulder. "Hey, don't worry. You got a lot riding on your shoulders. Mom's head of surgery, dad's an endocrinologist, I don't know how you don't explode Vic."
Victoria sniffles and nods. "This is just gonna turn into another argument, another barrier between us. I'm closer with my dad but sometimes it feels like even he's under my mom's influence."
Trinity pats her back. "Well, you wanna come with us tonight? Baran offered and tonight's ramen's night. Maybe a little break?"
Victoria looks up in surprise. "Really? I won't intrude?"
Trinity shakes her head. "Nah, it's always chaotic." She helps her up and they start the walk back to the ambulance bay. Victoria grabs her bag from the lockers and they head to the parking garage.
After a quick walk they get to the car where Yolanda and Baran were waiting. "There they are." Baran says fondly.
"So.. Victoria's coming?" Yolanda tilts her head. "You sure?"
Baran nods. "Her and Trinity get along well and her mom chewed her out earlier over the psychiatry decision." They get to the car and strap in.
Victoria clocks how Trinity regresses. She starts excitedly talking about her day and kicking her legs as Baran and Yolanda listen fondly with 'Uh-huhs, wow my love that sounds fun,"
"Vic how about 'amen for dinner?"
Victoria turns to Trinity and nods. "Yeah I'd love that." She already loved hanging out with them. Her family was the opposite. They'd all disappear to their offices the second they got home.
When they get to the house they pile out, Trinity excitedly running ahead as Baran unlocks the door.
Trinity's about to run to the kitchen before Yolanda grabs her. "Oh no you don't, bath before food."
"Nooo!" Trinity protests as Yolanda drags her up the stairs. Baran turns and smiles at Victoria. "I'll start on dinner, wanna help?" Victoria nods as Baran gets the pots out.
"So, everything ok with you?"
Victoria sighs and chops veggies. "I, just my mom driving me crazy as usual."
Baran whistles. "I get that." She puts noodles in the pots and seasoning. "You can come over any time, alright? I know how overbearing your parents can be."
Victoria puts the veggies in the pot. "I'd um. I like that."
The ramen is finished just as Trinity barrels down the stairs in pajamas with Yolanda following behind. "RAMEN!!"
"Alright munchkin eat slowly." Victoria smiles as her and Trinity start eating their food. "Can we play something afterwards?" Victoria asks. "If that's okay."
Trinity is halfway through chewing when she looks up excitedly and starts babbling and talking about what they should play.
"Chew with your mouth closed azizam." Baran grabs a towel and gently rubs Trinity's face.
"Can we watch Barbie mama?"
"Don't see why not, gotta get to bed early though."
After dinner they get to the couch and 10 minutes in Trinity's fast asleep in Yolanda's lap. "Alright, bedtime." They file upstairs and Baran guides Victoria to the guest room with spare pajamas and a stuffed animal.
"Let me know if you need anything, alright? We've got extra scrubs here if you don't want to go home before work."
Baran smiles and says goodnight as the door shuts. Victoria smiles and gets dressed before lying down. She holds the stuffed animal bunny close. Apparently Trinity had wanted to give it to her for a while but never had the time.
The sheets smelled like lavender, and was freshly spread.
It felt like home.
