Near visibly blushes red up to his ears and sits up straight, looking at Matt with wide eyes.

“Don’t even think about telling Daddy I’m out here with you.” Near snaps, slapping Matt on the shoulder, but his fat little hands can’t really hit that hard. He sits back down, calming himself, and twirls a piece of his white hair around his finger, and chews on the inside of his cheek. 

“It’s your car. I don’t care.” Near says, even though he hates the stupid smell off a vape. Kind of like marshmallows? It’s not good. There are no good smells in this car.

“Well, since you’re taking me out, I’ll buy you dinner?” Near says, looking at Matt with a coy little smile.

Going in Matt knew that there was no way they’d both survive this case. That’s why he’d been so reluctant at first, but how could he take the chance of losing Mello in an attempt to save his own skin? The blonde was always too reckless, even by Matt’s standards. He’d lay away at night with Mello at his side and think about all of the outcomes. He didn’t like how any of them ended, but he’d do anything to keep Mello safe. However in all of his restless nights Matt never imagined that he’d be the survivor. That he’d have to live without Mello.

It was probably 3 am by the time he’d arrived at SPK headquarters. He was covered in dirt and blood and hadn’t even taken the time to remove the bullet proof vest that saved his life. He quickly figured out the pass code and entered the building. Guns trained on him as he sauntered towards Near. “Oi, if ya wanna kill me yer gonna ‘ave ta aim fer my ‘ead.” His voice held none of it’s usual amusement or taunting. It was just hollow.

Near had been on quite the stacking spree. He’s surrounded, an almost complete circle all the way around him. It’d been quite the eventful night, following a very eventful week, and it was just starting to wind down, so it’s an understatement to say he’s a bit surprised when the doors are smashed open and three guns are aimed at Matt’s head.

Near whips around, his face expressionless, and he stares blankly at Matt, eyes blinking fast.

“Don’t shoot him.” Near commands, turning himself around ever so carefully he looks Matt up and down.

“He must be bringing some valuable information.” Near explains, and then the guns are lowered, and Near stands, looking at Matt expectantly.

Near curls up onto his fat knees and shoots Matt a look for his choice of words. Auxiliary cord?? Who cares. He starts to dig through Matt’s glove drawer, and there is so much shit in there, it’s really hard to find the little cord, and once he finds it he gives Matt one of his quirky grins.

“Found it.” He says softly, and then he leans over to plug it in. Near’s always leaning all over everything, especially when people are trying to drive. It’s sort of ridiculous.

After plugging the cord into his phone, Near settles himself into his seat and scrolls through his playlist, settling on some indie hipster bullshit to blast way too loud. 

“Since when do you care about how much something costs? Your Dad is a billionaire.” Near says, his voice quiet but teasing, barely about to be heard over the music.

Near, the second he lays his eyes on Matt, is disgusted. He’s greasy, he has black shit all over his nose, and he smells like shit. Near wrinkles his little nose, cheeks flushed pink from the heat.

“Don’t you own deodorant? Or are you literally that stupid.” Near grumbles, waddling around to the passenger seat to plop himself down in the seat of his very, very nice car. At least they’re riding in style. Near puts his fat little legs up on the dashboard and he buckles himself in.

“Do you have an aux cord?” He asks, his voice lilting and soft as he looks at the other boy through his white lashes. He rolls the window down to try to drown out the smell of Matt’s B.O. because it’s disgusting.

Cali Au starter

Matt is literally probably the last person that Near wants to hang out with. However, all of Near’s other friends are currently busy with their rich, shallow lives and Near is really frustrated about it. Mello’s in Hawaii on vacation, L And B are off camping god knows where and even Light is studying for college. This leaves Near alone and grumpy, on his plush pink bed, scrolling through his contacts.

Matt is the only one whose always not doing anything, which is why Near decides to call him up, asking if he’d help Near with a Very Important job. Matt, of course, accepted, and Near asked him to pick him up discreetly, because he doesn’t want his Daddy seeing that he hangs out with human garbage. 

So now Near is smearing lip gloss all over his big pouty lips, and tugging on his Brandy Melville shorts that slide across his thick thighs and don’t chafe. They’re also the best material ever, putting Near in sensory heaven. With that, Near is shimmying out the window and down the ladder he actually keeps under his bed for these exact moments.

He has his Daddy’s credit card in his back pocket and he’s ready to go, jelly sandals clacking on the ground as he waits at the bus stop down the street for Matt to pick him up, the sun blazing down on his white little shoulders.
