I am about to talk a lot..
So back in October I did a brainstorm in the night where I essentially gave Frisk hypergraphia. In which is a compulsive writing disorder, characterized by repetitive, detailed, obsessive writing: More so I have them fall into "memory hoarding. " An anxious need to hoard memories, fear of forgetting details/distrust in one's own recollection. This is derived from OCD which gradually develops and worsens in their late teens to early 20s.
Frisk still has a save file they can reset, save, load choose not to, more often does it late in the night to not disturb anyone. I have it so Frisks power develops overtime but that's for later. Basically the way they log their life is reminiscent of the game file.
They wear a watch in which they'll jot down the time, date, every action, conversation throughout the day along with entry's describing each in a separate journal they bind with the other. If they’re feeling really antsy about it they’ll load to relive an event to get every detail out of it. Chara hasn't been tethered to Frisk since the underground so they also carry a watch they claim is “just to keep time..”

Frisk writes in first person but more often then not writes as if talking to their mom in their entries. They’re relationship with their mom is something I haven’t really thought to explain before since its all just yknow..in my mind palace..but to actually give context Frisk and their mother were inseparable!
I must heavily emphasize Frisk was deeply attached to their mother and ONLY her. No real interest in friends or family they solely clung to her for emotional support and companionship. Any extended family behind her were deeply religious, demeaning, abusive and heavily ostracized her from the family. Frisk and their mom both sharing the red eye trait is a factor but not the sole core of the families conflict.
Frisk has suffered multiple counts of physical and sexual abuse from their father in which their mother personally took to mangling and leaving him physically disabled and charged. A deeply traumatic event to live and relive through in court but I want to highlight an instance where Frisk enjoys violence being dished out.
Their mom passes away two years after this case settles to her own health complications that has been very much an inevitable foresight for the majority of Frisks life but happens way sooner than ever expected. This absolutely shatters Frisk and causes them to fully withdraw into themself after the fact. They are then relocated to Ebott City where they are dropped in foster care and then placed in a group home. In which they are again repeatedly abused and traumatized throughout an unchecked system. They make to break out and live however able throughout the city. They eventually will find themself back at Mt. Ebott also known as their favorite hiking spot with their mom. All to properly spread her ashes; and with being heavily suicidal, attempt at its peak.
(It says 10th it’s supposed to be the 7th journal.) I pushed it back so this “breakup” occurs when Frisk is 19 and Chara is 20. So with all that said.
Chara has essentially but unintentionally been an emotional stand in for Frisks mom which they are heavily aware of and out right have been guilt tripped by Frisk over when attempting to just ghost disappear(put to rest) after the events of the pacifist route.
Frisk is very emotionally selective with how they share their emotions; conceal and trust theirs with others. Chara is deeply familiar with Frisks character. They know Frisk dabbles in journaling and never pries to read out of manners despite expressing interest. For the past 7 yrs they’ve taken their refusal to share as embarrassment.
Chara will go on to meet Frisk at their flat and without reply will clean their mess of a room to pass the time. They attempt to move one of these journals from the floor to their desk and find haphazardly attached papers spilling out onto the floor. In which they neatly line back together. Shares a careless glimpse and immediately grows very concerned.
To preface Chara has been doing great. They’ve worked to mend their familial relationships, adhere from selfharm, gone through self discovery. They are very content with where they’re at and work hard to make sure Frisk is safe and taken care of so they can both be in a similar situation.
From Chara's perspective its discovering Frisk has been blatantly lying about their mental and physical state for the past 7 yrs. Frisks biggest struggle is not only being powerful but more so reliable, decisive and influential. A lack of freedom applies. Theres a sense they’re missing out entirely on what they want out of life and are incapable of making decisions often given to them. They’ll go on to describe the lengths they go as ambassador for the local populous of Mt Ebott but unfortunately no matter how much good they do it is drowned out by the overwhelming crushing weight of feeling responsible over the state of the world despite physically incapable of doing so. In their honesty they would prefer to relinquish their position and responsibility entirely.
They will not allow themself wants and or rest leading to exerting themself daily. They’ll describe their drug abuse, logged suicides and attempts, how they still partake in multiple forms of self harm and how they view their existence entirely of a service. An ideal that Chara had personally fueled and hammered into them during the events of the underground. To discover it's still at the forefront of how they operate absolutely breaks Chara upon reading and they will go on to relapse after the fact.
Okay. SO ACTUAL BREAKUP TIME!!!
They were never together in name and will never label it as such. So quotations and "Not talking." are fitting referrals I mention often. Both don’t communicate effectively, Frisk will act blind to advances, sabotage their chances but will VERY MUCH FOLD if Chara lays it on thick. Both have a negative response to physicality so it doesnt come up often.
In the art I've shown up until this point there is an obvious guilty indulgence Chara gets out of reading Frisks writing. Initially it’s out of concern but really seeing themself as 60% of it- laid out in such a honest, loving way is more than enough to render them a felon in their own mind. They’ll later confront Frisk over whats actually important. In the fact they are just not okay and maintaining themself the way they are is incredibly self destructive.
Frisk oddly enough isn't upset Chara had read It.
“It felt like before.." comes up quite a bit.
Charas indulgence is heavily rooted in longing to be tethered to Frisks body and mind again in which Frisk states they'd be inclined to the same if the roles were reversed. For this craving is entirely mutual and has sparked many conversations in the past.
As for Frisk..to be judged in their preference of coping is actually where this starts to get messy.
Frisk HATES how this is brought up and especially hates talking about it. This isn’t something that needs fixing and work?? This is the ONLY thing that DOES work and HAS been working for them. This is the only consistency they’ve allowed themself to have and the only real thing they’ve been able to fall back on.
So for that mindset having Chara of all people be the one to bring it up is conflicting.
Frisk is pretty speechless for the entire conversation. Its this slow back and forth for a long time before Frisk just has Chara leave so they can cool off and think. Theres a moment where Chara gives up their set of keys as a way to show they wont break their privacy again unless trusted but it’s hard to place the intention in the moment and Frisk takes it the opposite way. In fact their main takeaway from it all is “Chara just found out Im an awful pathetic being..” (which like no hun..✋😭)
A destructive episode takes place.
Frisk goes on to ghost the hell out of Chara and avoid them as best possible. In which they catch the hint but despite being ignored will continue to check in consistently. Frisk bumps into Asriel more often then not after that..
Theres an unspoken resignation from eachother in hopes both reflect. which does work in its own awful way. Frisk falls into a messy abusive relationship with a girl from their University thats SO bad they break their log streak in hopes to forget it. And Chara unfortunately falls back into a cycle of self hatred that manifests in self harm causing an intense breakdown in front of Asriel.
