Breaking down and analyzing the “Do the thing” scene (id post the clip but I don’t have it)
Not talking about Randy betraying Mike because that’s already been talked about a million times and this ain’t about him.
He jumps when Johnny calls him, either from being nervous or because he may associate being called his last name with being in trouble.
While he walks away from Mike:
-Chet is looking at Randy, seemingly upset (judging by the very minute detail of him glaring), possibly jealousy?
-Johnny starts talking to Chet, probably telling him to hype up the new guy.
-He nudges Javier to get his attention.
Randy walks up to Johnny, seeming excited and nervous:
-We see Javier looking at Randy with an unimpressed “Really? This guy?” look.
-Chip smiles at Randy. BEFORE he even does anything.
-Chet smiles again, going back to his jolly persona, excited to drop his joke.
After Randy uses his camouflage:
-Javier and Reggie both react with surprise, Javier more so than Reggie.
-Chip lacks a real reaction, which interests me. Maybe Chip was told beforehand— Which means not everyone in ROR is on the same page. Johnny may pick and choose certain bits of information to share or withhold from his teammates, meaning there may be a hierarchy of sorts, or more likely that Johnny likes to keep control of his frat by holding key information. That, or Chip doesn’t care, which is way less interesting so I’m ignoring it.
-Johnny nudges Javier (Which could be interpreted as him being like “Pretty cool huh?” Or “Told you.” Or “Laugh at Chet’s joke”.) which prompts him to laugh with the others.
All in all… I love how expressive everyone is in this movie. Which makes it painfully clear how stiff and awkward MAW’s animation is in comparison despite being newer.
