Sitting cross-legged with a cross-hatched, tipsy mind, Hyori watched Seongmin from her place on the bed, weighting her spins by anchoring herself on the bed. Glitter lined her jaw and liquid-gold tequila lingered in her stomach, remnants of a night out that could not be denied or forgotten. She swayed in place, tiny concentric circles that seemed to make concentration -- even as one was concentrating on said concentration -- that much harder. “Seongmin-ssi,” She (not-)whispered from her bedroom, leaning forward as he started to make their food order over the phone. “Gimbap.” She mouthed in reiteration, gesturing with her hands to further stress the need for gimbap.
She’d already said it twice since he picked up the phone, but who was counting. Not Hyori.
contrary to what netizen buzz loved to report depending on the day, hyun didn’t accomplish very much when he went out - didn’t take home wide-eyed fangirls, didn’t drunkenly challenge anti-fans nor photographers to fights. most of his late evenings went exactly how this evening had been going before hyori showed up, shadows in the VIP bubble, drinking until his stiff shoulders relaxed and murmuring conspiratorially with old friends. not that he was complaining. hyori was a welcome charge, a jolt that reached his every corner, from the clench of his teeth to the curl of his toes when she smiled. it was all involuntary, and very few things were with hyun, hyun who always had every idea of what he wanted a sandstorm in his head.
“staring you in the eye, or something you wanna stare at?”
both, evidently, but hyun kept that part to himself, only offering a coy, almost shy grin over the rim of his glass. she seemed drunk and warm and vibrant, not a lull in the storm but the very eye of it. his friends whooped at her suggestion, and he made a show of a grimace - all in jest, of course. he wasn’t the strongest or the third strongest dancer in ACT.6, but with his three drinks he could hold his own against a storm of a girl. “teach you something, huh?” he laughed, following her to the floor with a body that swayed on its own. “there’s nothing i could possibly teach you that you wouldn’t already know - when we’re talking about dancing.” hyun grinned something dangerous and knowing, and his hands grazed over her hips, fingers settling, melding into the heat of her skin. they were face to face and it was all too easy to pull her close, to whisper just loud enough for only her to hear above the music.”did they teach you this when you were a trainee?”
he was just so cool, blue-tinted and calm, centered by some invisible anchor that steadied rather than sunk him. even in the midst of the new bacchanalian he seemed unaffected by the madness, the scotch glasses proof that he had inhaled euphoria and kept himself on his feet. it made her want to reach over and touch him, turning his face toward her, ruffling her hair. she wanted his attention in a way temporarily reminiscent of a school girl, willing to poke and prod to illicit a reaction. ( if she was someone else, hyori may have called it a crush. but she wasn’t, so it wasn’t). what she wanted after his attention was decidedly more womanly, but even crimes of passion have to be taken one step at a time.
she winked jovially at the men they left behind when hyun stood and followed her, taking his wrist (finding the hand too intimate) in her fingers and leading him to the far edge of the floor, where even MONARCH’s view of them would be obstructed. drunk or sober, dancing was as natural - more desired - than any other kind of movement for hyori, who turned and churned her body until hyun leaned in. “oh yeah?” she challenged, mouth left open in a teasing smile, her lips shaped like a hooked finger curling from him towards her. “what could you teach me?” her body seemed to take pride that he had brought them closer, igniting in the places he touched her with muggy, white-hot heat that licked up her spine. a girl on fire, taking light-knot fistfuls of his shirt and slipping a thigh tactfully between his legs as she settled against him, grinning as she rolled their hips together lightly enough to call it kindling. “no -- music taught me how to move.”

tongue peeking out between his lips in concentration, jaewon tries his very hardest to pat down that piece of stray hair as much as he can from where he’s standing. the angle of the mirror isn’t really showing where it is and he tries bending back and adjusting his position just so he can find that goddamn piece of hair and put it in place, and it results in his moving his hand wildly above his head while trying to smooth it down.
he scowls at his reflection in the mirror, catching hyori’s eye through it and he stops mid-movement. he stills and everything is silent for a while, frown fixed on his face until his eyes dart back to the mirror and he realises how he ridiculous he looks. jaewon can’t help the laugh that bubbles to the surface, and soon his face crinkles into a big grin as he chuckles at himself.
“i looked stupid, didn’t i?” he asks unabashedly, smile settled on his face as he moves over to where hyori is sitting. “i think we’re ready to leave, though,” jaewon mutters, pulling out his phone and checking the time. it’s pretty late—or early—depending on how you look at it, and it’s perfect because there’s a more unlikely chance of anyone following them around or recognizing them.
“shall we go, then?”
scientifically speaking, supposedly one could pass their exact doppelganger on the street without recognizing it as themselves. this was because the individual human could only see themselves from two limited, flat angles -- the mirror, and media (film, photographs, etc). yet jaewon seemed to defy this thesis -- evidently, from the way he careened and creaked his body with tongue jutting from between his lips, he couldn’t even see himself properly in the mirror.
as a friend does, of course, hyori is seeing him for her sunbae. watching with idle, flicking-tail feline amusement from her place on the couch, her expression one of enjoyment mixed with the kind of air you blow out from between closed teeth. she’s hungry, after all.
“i don’t know, i couldn’t see you. hunger has made me go blind. i’m sightless. left in the dark forever, sunbae. you’re going to have to guide me down the street. and feed me.” but an idol’s schedule is a late one, and the absurd hour of the night-morning was no deterrent to hyori at this point, who was fixated on the idea of eating. “you mean you’re ready to go?” she answered on the heels of his muttering, but there was no malice to it. all lethargy seemed to expel from her bones at the nearing prospect of ramen, springing hyori up from the couch. “yes! let’s go, let’s go let’s go let’s goooo -” she tapped repetitively in quick, excited motions on jaewon’s shoulder, grinning.
where the hurricane rests ✩ bunni & sunnie.
When it came to L:OVELESS, Sunnie was willing to go above and beyond to ensure their success.
Being only months away from being the maknae, she took her position as leader seriously– it was something that she’d earned fair and square, and she took every chance that she got to prove she deserved the spot more than their oldest member. Some of it had to do with pride, but most was her personal ethic. Hard work was one of the biggest things that mattered to her, and even from a young age she did everything that she could to get ahead in her career. Being away from her home and family as a seven year old was difficult, but it got her a solid spot on national television for a year, and she wouldn’t have traded that for anything. And now, she might have sacrificed her sleep (and some of her sanity) by holing herself up in the studio to work on L:OVELESS’ music by herself, but in the end it got them the recognition and awards they deserved, and she was willing to settle with one day of sleep during the week if she was lucky and a complete lack of a social life just to keep that up.
This was the one, and probably only time that social life and work would come together for her, all in the name of a new album. It was also one of the few times that she’d willingly ask for help, in the form of a night out, bringing her out of her studious shell for the sake of research and new music. Though they were opposites in many ways, Hyori was the perfect person for it– she didn’t have a boiling hatred for the soloist (in fact, she quite adored her), and in a way, Sunnie knew that she understood exactly what she was going for. Even without a title or potential tracks, this album meant everything to her. Nearly a year without a comeback meant that they needed something that would continue to make them memorable, and she was ready to come through with a bang.
“It’s–” Dirty, loud, definitely out of her comfort zone. “Interesting.” They hadn’t been there for long, but she was already counting down the hours until she could return back to her home, sweet home known as the recording studio. Looking like a lamb lost from her pasture, she followed closely behind her elder, head lowered in an attempt to keep attention off of her. Nightlife was more of Luna’s scene, which made it all the more likely for news to blow up if the responsible, resident hardass Sunnie was spotted in a club. “I’m not drinking. And I don’t want to dance, and I don’t want to meet anybody. I just want to watch and listen, if that’s okay.”
Like all surprises, Sunnie’s request to go out had been unexpected and odd. And entirely welcome. Perhaps there should have been resentment braided into Hyori’s bones, some kind of snake-coil envy for all the things that her junior had already accomplished that she had yet to (or may not ever) achieve herself. But in place of poison there sang nectar, ambrosia, something sweet and golden and sticky. Look at what girls can do. Look at what girls in my company can do. Look at what I am striving towards. There was pure respect and admiration for L:OVELESS as artists, and as an individual minus the music and melody (if it was possible to subtract the harmony from a musician without killing them entirely), Hyori was entirely fond of the girl -- all the more reason that she felt the protective unnie as she shepherded the inexperienced girl through the club. Even with an affinity for nightlife, the sweating and too-close bodies of a packed dance floor was nothing to enjoy.
Still, Sunnie’s response made her laugh, a tune nearly snuffed out by the pounding EDM that vibrated around them. Interesting. No drinking, dancing, cavorting. It should’ve been an expected answer, but the extent of the removal she requested was still amusing.
“Look,” She looked over at Sunnie as they took the stairs to the select VIP lounge on the second floor, leaning into her ear as her eyes scanned the crowd they passed. “You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. But Seoyeon, if you wanted just to listen, we could’ve just played some EDM back at the studio and dimmed the lights. I’m not saying you have to get drunk or spend the night letting some guy chat you up, but the best way to to figure out what you want is to participate in it.” And perhaps, coincidentally, as a matter of serendipity, have some fun in the meantime. Motioning Sunnie to take a seat in their booth, she followed suit. “All I’m saying is that people don’t come to the club just to sit and watch - and you may not understand why something works if you can’t identify with something. Trust me, Sunnie,” She waved her hand dismissively, eyes again scanning the horizon of the club’s patrons. “It’s gonna be good.”
It would be easy, sane even, to fear the oncoming body zooming towards her. But if Hyeri did manage to feel such a way there was hardly any time for pondering over it, as sooner rather than later did that (very nice sculptured) body make the ultimate crash landing. Instantly were Hyeri’s arms around Hyori, stabilizing the labelmate from wobbling out of control. “Hrmph-” She tried to pull back a little to stabilize herself, and instead whacked her head against the wall. Hazy seconds followed, a moment to comprehend just what was going on, before lips stretched into a great big grin. No more than a second later Hyeri had burst into laughter, enough so that it seemed the hallway would never quieten again.
“Hey,” When she caught her breath, calmed a little, a (poorly executed) scolding expression was directing at the girl before her. “What are you doing here, like a wild child?” Hyeri gently knocked their knees together. “No knee-pads.” A hand moved to the top of Hyori’s head. “No helmet.” She tut-tut-tutted, putting on her pretend mother voice. As the senior in both age and experience, it was only right that she did her job. “We cannot have you risking the preservation of your pretty face, young lady.” The act was broken with a childish pout, a soft puff, ever so Hyeri. “I mean you could’ve at least invited me.” Her gaze flickered over to the skateboard, which had now drifted to a stop. “Why do you have it in the first place? Is your next concept youthful rebellion or something?”
“Oh!” Hyori realized a moment too late that Hyeri’s head had collided with the wall (as is the case with all collisions, otherwise they would have been avoided and dashed from existence), an instinctual laugh of disbelief pulling from her as she attempted to cup her elder’s head. But laughter made her crooked, bending her knees and dropping her arms before she could cradle the knocked skull in her palms. “Oh, unnie, I’m so sorry--”
She straightened up at the pseudo-scolding, though somberness simply didn’t fit on Hyeri’s face. It sat with a wrinkle, just slight off-kilter, slanted, sized incorrectly for her petite, pretty features. Hyori chuckled throughout the faux-reprimand. “I’m taking over Act.6′s real-life concept,” she quipped, flipping her hair part from one side to the other and switching her weight from left foot to right. “Wild and rebellious and everything.” A joke, really, though there were enough people in the company that had indicted the group’s members as assholes and partiers. Hyori had excused herself from that jury. She waved off her last joke. “One of the producers brought his into the studio, and I wanted to try it. Plus bruises in the right colour might do something for my visuals --”
Walking over to the discarded, stagnant skateboard, Hyori placed her foot on top and pushed it foreward, biting her bottom lip wickedly and raising her eyebrows. “I don’t think he needs it back immediately. You want to try?”
he heard rather than saw his friends shift to look at him as she drew closer - and with good reason. hyori was a mirage of a girl, almost perfectly stepping into the short, bouncy skirt and thigh-highs - he could practically smell the cherry lollipop on her breath when she reached over. “i can show you much more than that,” and that was as much as he offered this version of her. the shadows couldn’t hide the woman behind the girl, and when she dropped the act a moment later, hyun lifted his glass to his lips. he was parched.
“hyun’s not being any fun,” his friend on his left, MONARCH, an older rapper with plenty of gold on his fingers and ink on his wrists groused with a grin. “three drinks and nothing to show for it.”
“i’ve told you, i could walk an old lady across the street and some anti-fan would find a way to spin it so hard just so the shit he’d fling would hit something,” hyun chuckled, his tongue looser from the drink. MONARCH shot hyori a knowing smirk. “but… i can’t very well be a hermit slowly drinking myself to death in the corner of a club when i’ve got fine company staring me in the eye, can i?”
he said i can show you much more than that, and suddenly she was a penny swaying to the bottom of a fountain, a star stepping down to the earth with a gasp and a faint – a sparkling thing falling somewhere dense and dark. she should’ve hated how he had answered, all surety and no apology, undressing her previous comment to stand suddenly nude and vulnerable next to his open lap of a statement. instead, she stupidly, drunkenly, meaningfully, loved it. white-blue heat open mouth kissed up her spine, and she had nothing to say. her smile hung in the air as answer, feline and entertained.
hyori turned attentively to MONARCH – who in truth she was fond of – and turned her lips into a matching set, grinning with him. “oh,” she pouted and shook her head in exaggerated disappointment. “that’s no fun at all. how’ve you guys been putting up with him?” her eyes lapsed back to hyun in quick succession as the man in question defended himself, but she only raised an eyebrow and exchanged a conspiratorial snicker with MONARCH. she listed to hyun, but her attention was drowned by the slant of manufactured darkness across his face and vibrating beat around her. “staring you in the eye, or something you wanna stare at?” she quipped, verbally pointing a finger at something half-acknowledged between them. removing her arms from the table and straightening up she cast opinion facetiously down to his accompaniments: “should we make him get off his ass?” it wasn’t a real question because there was already an answer. they hollered their compliance anyway. “what do you think - dancing?” again, the question ran to the sides of hyun’s friends rather than his own ears, and they answered in loud positives. an electric charge. like beckoning a finger to get him out of the booth and onto the dance floor, hyori swayed her hips to the music curled around them, picking up the pace for a teasing shake that made the boys laugh and whoop in appreciation.
“c’mon than, hyun - come on and teach me something!”

where the hurricane rests ✩ bunni & sunnie.
@tkosunnie
People on the whole, regardless of geographical location or subsequent cultural slang, had long been quite fond of the saying “the calm before the storm.” Metaphorically, it made a hackneyed kind of sense, in the way that all sayings with easily chewable syllables become palatable for the masses. If it wasn’t said in the exact same way - perhaps substituting the ubiquitous “storm” for a more specific disaster — a hurricane, maybe, or the gagging feeling one attained when unable to remove a piece of hair from your mouth halfway through a bite of something dry — the sentiment remained the same. And unanimously, regardless of the affliction in question, there lay serious flaws within the logic of the statement; namely, the implication that all catastrophes (both of the fleshy nature and natural kind) were delivered with a forewarning of eerie silence and peace. Hyori has always found that to be melodramatic bullshit, to be quite honest. Life was rarely so dull as to be so predictable. Her life never had been.
Seoul’s night scene was, in affect, the motel the storm checked into for a quick fuck and a smoke break between disasters. Some would have protested it was more a chalet than a motel, but the sex was quick and sloppy and would probably walk around naked far too long after the alcohol and warn off and the spliff was ashes. Lacquered calamity. Hyori looked at the scene in front of her, a conglomerate of momentarily-made best friends and lovers of convenience permeating the space between her and the V.I.P. they had been designated. There was a song playing that kept saying Kanye and lamenting their lack of Yeezus-like status, but wasn’t by Kanye, which she found odd, considering he seemed the most likely to sing about himself. Or rap. Whatever.
Her hand went to Sunnie’s spine, pivoting her own body towards hers against the crowd as a subtle measure of stem-curling security for the younger girl. “How you doing so far?” Years separated them, levels of success too. Habits and interests. But there was an understanding here, and Hyori’s voice was braided with amusemet. “It’ll get better once we get upstairs.”
Somewhere, a storm shifted on its leather couch to scratch an itch.

LIVE PERFORMANCE.
Typically, the company building was filled with professionalism and seriousness. Everyone was working hard, either to prepare for their anticipated comeback or fight their way into the possibility of a debut. Even the staff carried the burden and heavy pressure of making everything perfect, as was their job. And yet all this did not stop the occasional something, or someone, to lighten up the halls with a little less serious and a little more fun. This day was one of those days, and the unsuspecting Hyeri was caught pleasantly unaware. The echo of laughter, rolling of wheels, and a moment later a voice calling out towards her.
“Huh?” Hyeri swiveled on the spot, eyes wide and head tilted to the side. In her spell of confusion it took a while, and a while longer, before the soloist understood that it was in fact a fellow idol skating down the hall, arms flailing and wild, straight towards her. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry because she wants to ride around on skateboards too.
“But if you get to the end, won’t you crash into it?” Hurried footsteps took her to the said wall that would become a crash scene, and in a moment of utmost, inspirational bravery Hyeri held out her arms and played along. “It’s okay, Hyori! I’ll catch you!”
It was haphazard, unplanned, messy -- the complete antithesis to how Hyori handled most all other things she participated in within the TKO building. But what was a girl without a little contradiction? Skating along without form or balance, it was only by repetition and memory that Hyori managed to identify Hyeri in the midst of her wobbling and laughter, adrenaline and mirth otherwise obstructing her concentration. “Yes!” The loud answer rebounded off the wall she was scheduled for impact with, but there was no call for aid in the word. (Break like waves, not like glass). Bruises in a certain rpe colour would match her visuals anyway --
At the two-limb intervention of her senior, Hyori stuck out her own arms to grip onto the fae-girls shoulders, squealing as she unsteadily dropped off the board, which promptly crashed itself into the wall without a driver. “Ah!” Hyori laughed in the kind of disbelief that shakes itself out loudly and all at once. “Unnie, you saved me.” She turned and stained the edge of Hyeri’s jaw with her lipstick, a playful kiss to her cheek as she wrapped her arms around the girl’s neck. Relinquishing her hold on the other idol, she laughed once more and tossed her hair over her shoulder, looking back at the slowing skateboard. “God, that was weirdly fun.”
hyori was always a constant sight in the TKO building - fleeting, their encounters always full of wry, coy grins and a back-and-forth that never lasted quite as long as hyun would have liked. he remembered when she released one of her more provocative videos - he hadn’t been able to meet her eyes the day after unless he forced himself - and,for his own… private reasons, not out of anything ridiculous like disgust or shock. there was no trace of that embarrassment now - he was all wolfish grins and double entendres and patient fingers. “missy, do you know how babies are made?” hyun chuckled, then tilted his head “and i know you’re being facetious right now, but i’d be personally offended if it wasn’t true.”
what a terrible, terrible thing to be looking at a beautiful boy in a dark room with liquor in your system. there were two others around him but she couldn’t seem to remember to look at them. “oppa can show me,” she reached over and tugged at his shirt twice in quick succession, her voice deliberately high and mocking, the sound of lolita lollipops clacking against teeth and thigh high socks being stretched over the knee. her grin was too full of adulthood to make the statement serious, innuendo caught between her molars and bicuspids.
hyori’s forearms dropped to the table with the rest of her game, dissipating as throaty laughter poured out her throat. still leaning against the table with her elbows, she crossed her arms and brought the scratch and woman back to her voice, casting her eyes across the trio. “how’s you boys’s night going so far?”
