I'm hearing angels sing as I read about people venting how much they hate the "unsympathetic sides" trope because ME TOO.

Especially the fact that Patton was SUCH a big victim of it and how the perception of his character is still warped by its effects to this day.

Like it brings a happy tear to my eye knowing that lots of people dislike it as much as I do LMAO

PLEASE! I beg, write canon Patton with more religious guilt and trauma.

Include how he feels uncomfortable around the topic of religion because of its conflicting morals, how every mistake he makes makes him feel less worthy of forgiveness or sympathy, the way his guilt consumes him, how his view of what he has been taught is twisting into something he hates, how everything he has ever been taught may have been wrong or a lie, how he believes that it makes HIS existence inherently wrong.

(I know there are a lot of fics out there similar to this but sadly due to my own trauma I can't read more religiously explicit fics)

Am I projecting onto him? MAYBE! but I think it's part of the reason I relate to him as a character.

And this may be a hot take but it's part of the reason why I think he would never INTENTIONALLY hurt Thomas or the other sides. More that he doesn't see the flaws in his ways since it's all he's ever known!

I will never get enough of religious trauma Patton content.

Yes have his whole world view change because he thought he was made inherently wrong. Make it hard for him to make decisions because he doesn't know where to stand anymore. Make him think it's his fault for not falling in line but falling in love with a other man.
