In 1964, Random House published Invisible Government by David Wise and Thomas Ross. The book exposed the role of the CIA in foreign policy. This included CIA coups in Guatemala (Operation PBSUCCESS) and Iran (Operation Ajax) and the Bay of Pigs Invasion. It also revealed the CIA's attempts to overthrow President Sukarno in Indonesia and the covert operations taking place in Laos and Vietnam. The CIA considered buying up the entire printing of Invisible Government, but this idea was rejected when Random House pointed out that if this happened, they would have to print a second edition.

AVR Project
Interactive VR installation by Micah Ganske features a 3D Printed sculptural interface which took 75 days to print:
For my first AVR project, I’ve 3D printed a sculptural cockpit that the viewer stands in front of and holds on to as they experience a short virtual tour through the world of my paintings and sculpture. The 3D-printed sculpture’s form is based on the anatomy of the eye since I thought ocular anatomy for my first project that uses the Oculus Rift would be fun and appropriate. The sculpture is over six feet high and required approximately 75 days of total print time divided across several machines.

Transitions I by Alan Warburton
Transitions I is a series of 75 images exploiting motion blur, an algorithmic method for simulating movement between sequential images, to push the algorithm to generate the visual transition between one Prime Minister to the next.
The dead are a great source of magical élan, grace, and power. This has been present in many cultures since the first burial. Indeed Georges Bataille (to whose ideas The Magic of the State is greatly indebted) argued from archaeological evidence and physical anthropology that the corpse is the origin of taboos, respect for the dead being what separates the human from the animal... Just imagine, then, the power that can accrue to the modern state, that great machine of death and war!

China Will Save The World With A Female Army, Kim Asendorf, 2014
NSA bots have to flip faces of all female Chinese soldiers to prevent agents from falling in love. The NSA hates love.
Technological marvels were understood to operate within the boundaries of natural laws rather than at the margins of them. Nature went from being a powerful, even capricious entity to an abstract noun denoted with a lower-case ‘n’: predictable, regular, and subject to unvarying law, like the movements of a mechanical clock.

And yet, although medieval Europeans had figured out how to build the same kinds of complex automata that people in other places had been designing and constructing for centuries, they did not stop believing in preternatural causes. They merely added ‘mechanical’ to the list of possible explanations. Just as one person’s ecstatic visions might equally be attributed to divine inspiration or diabolical trickery, a talking or moving statue could be ascribed to artisanal or engineering know-how, the science of the stars, or demonic art.
