THAT TOBIN/LINDSEY FRIENDSHIP IS FUCKING GOALS
tobito🥺🥺
Tobin fan through and through however I have a bad feeling she's going to get bumped from the "unofficial" starting line up... I know her defensive work rate is like no other and she provides so much more than scoring, (has never been known for being a full blown scorer) however is it just me or does she just seem a bit off?? Almost in a little bit a slump like every athlete goes through idk maybe it's just me!
I think it’s more that she has a different role and we’re not used to seeing it. If you look at the formation they are playing in, it’s more a 4-4-2 with Tobin being a 4th midfielder. That isn’t a mistake or an unintentional change, Vlatko has consistently been using her as more of a vacuum on that right side than a full blown winger. She is constantly pressuring and disturbing the Japanese to a point where there really is no traffic coming over that left Japanese flank. I can’t be sure because i can’t see inside Vlatko’s head but it seems that this is what he asked Tobin to do.
She isn’t the only player whose role changed and she won’t be the last, it’s just that we’re used to seeing her as a winger and i think in most games that isn’t her job anymore. I personally am glad she is adjusting and proving to Vlatko that she isn’t a one trick pony, if he wants her to play in midfield she will. If he wants her to be a winger (like she was against England) she will, it’s a good sign that he is testing her out in different roles and she is making it work.
Simple-minded people can’t relate to Tobin Heath. She’s so good at what she does, Vlatko has her playing all positions.

Something that I've been thinking about is that since CP never really had a chance to show her worth before now, she is just now getting the chance to consistently show what a badass she is. If anything this right now is her prime. I think Heath's prime was a 2-3 yrs ago, she still is one of the best players imo and most fun to watch but I wouldn't say she's playing at the level she was 2-3 years ago. I now wonder how this might play out in the paths of their retirements from the national team?
I love Christen and I am glad shes getting more opportunities I think she's always been this good not too happy with people trying to give women a prime time for their game though.
Tobin said if she retired today she wouldn't regret a thing and I wouldn't either. Do I think shes reached her prime? Nope, I know injuries play a lot in why she has been limiting herself so that she doesnt get hurt again so I attribute that to why we haven't seen her play a full 90. Honestly in my opinion she's just warming up and I can't wait to see her in the Olympics! At the end of the she still has Portland and her soon to be wife, no one stays on the National Team forever, but I dont think she will be gone anytime soon!
Who cares about Press... she’s only now contributing. The real question is, who’s gonna retired last: Tobin or Carli
“I love encouraging the next generation, I love empowering them, I want them to be great, I want the team to be great. I love having that responsibility of taking care of the team. When you’ve done something for yourself, then you want to do it for others. I want this group to have a World Cup Championship, I want that for them, I want that for the whole of the US National Team, I want to continue that tradition. So I always say: you get so you could give, I feel like I’ve been given so much in my life that I just feel like I have so much to give.” - Tobin Heath
Tobin Heath is always so invested in the promotion of the next generation, either kids or the younger teammates in the USWNT or Portland Thorns, she feels this deep gratitude towards everything she’s accomplished, it’s like she constantly needs to repay for what she received. One of things I love most about Tobin is that she doesn’t give anything for granted but most of all she acknowledges her privilege and she does all she can to use that platform in order to lift other players, other women. I only wish she knows how much she has already inspired the next generation, in football and outside of it (she inspired me!). Lindsey & Mal saying that Tobin was their favourite player to watch growing up is so special and important, it shows how much Tobin’s value is not just football related but it goes deeper, she has become a role model, someone to trust, someone to listen and follow. Especially with Lindsey, she gave all her friendship and her affection unconditionally and I think that says a lot about the person Tobin Heath is. Maybe remember this next time you question her.
