It’s been a really long time since I came on tumblr, but I started thinking a bit about how difficult year 13 was for me and what I could have done differently. they’re lengthy but there’s a lot to be said!!
These are some things that helped me when I was studying with depression - I have to say these don’t always help, and nothing will replace getting medical help. These just helped me take each day as it came, so I hope they’re of some use!
Please, please, please think of your health and really take care of yourself whilst studying and even more so in exam season.

annotate
make sure to read the poem at least 3 times over. skim once, and read twice. Skim and read once each if you don’t think you have enough time. Don’t let the length of it intimidate you.
annotate anything that will help you to answer the question. Answering the question, aside from literary devices on their own, is the most important.
be selective about the quotes and literary devices you find, and identify which ones you can write more about.

japanese phrases that i overuse at アルバイト
judging from these you can conclude that my workplace is quite interesting.
あら - oh?
あらら - whoa whoa
えっ? - huh?
へえ - oooh (being impressed/interested/surprised)
わーい - yaaay
まさか - no way, to think that ___ (insert whatever’s so unthinkable)
さすが - as expected of ___ (insert the person’s name)
なるほど - i see
マジかよ - are you serious?, you must be joking (more to myself than someone else; when i mess something up)
___ってこと? - so you mean that ___? (can be used for rephrasing to check if you got the person’s words right but i use it mostly for disbelief, i.e. “you REALLY mean that?”)
___ってどういう意味? - what does ___ mean? (exclusively for onomatopoeias which are my endless nightmare)
いじめ! - such a tease! (when coworkers are bickering)
なんだよそれ - what is even that supposed to mean (when laughing my ass off at coworkers’ funny stories)
意味わからない - i don’t get it (same as above)
涙出ちゃう - i’m gonna weep (when i’m allowed to taste my coworker’s pastry and it’s so delicious i want to cry)
most of the time i also don’t even bother using です・ます because all 3 of my japanese coworkers are totally laid-back.
(bonus story time: my coworker was cleaning the mirror and i said 「もう綺麗ですよ ○○さんが映ってるから」. so smooth)
アルバイト is fun, really.
