Warning(s): i tried to keep reader gender neutral but they ended up becoming somewhat femme, mentions of sex? Very poorly written Italian, I do not speak Italian at all and honestly I’m not sure if google translate does either. Mentions of blood, gore and deep wounds, ew. I didn’t edit it through haha ups
Vinny Santorini relationship headcannons
First of all, I love him, second of all I love him
And straight up just such an underrated character
Anyways- you’d meet him during the expedition to Atlantis
Dr. Joshua had talked a lot about you beforehand tho, seeing as you were his apprentice
Your first day on Ulysses has been spend following Dr. Joshua around like a lost puppy and awkwardly introducing yourself to the crew
You immediately took a liking to Milo, the linguist matching your shy energy and the two of you would often end up sitting alone together when the others were being tough on him
You also became fairly close to Audrey, as she was the closest to your age only being a couple years younger than you
You were genuinely well liked, so you didn’t really notice how Vinny would go out of his way to be nice to you
You didn’t notice how awkward he became around you either, thinking he just was like that
Poor man almost had a heart attack when you sat down next to him and asked him to explain how his bombs worked
“I- uh.. you see I make them and they- hey! Audrey. Come talk to your friend, eh?”
Audrey let out a yelp as Vinny shoved her in front of you before quickly getting up and disappearing behind a corner
After that disaster, Vinny had to gather his thoughts.
Mans came up with a plan real fast seeing has he had no intend to embarrass himself in front of you again
He started speaking to you in Italian, that way it was way easier for him to flirt with you without you noticing and possibly getting mad
The first time he did it, he called you “bella infermiera,” after you stitched up a cut on his arm
It was quick and he mumbled it under his breath, but you heard and asked him to translate
He just shook his head and gave you a goofy grin before quickly darting out of the medical tent
It left you confused, but when he started calling you sweet nothings in Italian every time he talked to you it messed with you even more
At one point you thought he was making fun of you, but then looked behind him to see Audrey’s knowing grin and dr. Joshua laughing to himself
You tried to get Audrey to tell you what was going on, but she just popped a bubble in your face and walked off
You also asked Dr. Joshua who told you “I think Vinny’s gonna tell you soon enough”
Which frustrated you even more
You were sitting down on a log, ranting and raving to poor Milo who was just trying to read when Vinny stumbled over
“Erh, Miss (y/n)..?” Vinny’s gruff voice came from behind you, and you turned away from yours and Milo’s conversation to glance up at the man behind you
Your eyes widened and Milo dropped his book, rather cartoonishly. “My god! What happened?” You abandoned your place on the log as you stood, immediately taking Vinny’s injured hand in your own. He had taken his glove off, gripping it tightly in his good hand while you gently brushed your fingers over his injured area
The man would always find a way to get injured, sometimes worse than others but it annoyed you to no end how he apparently didn’t care for himself at all
Deep wounds cut into his pointer and middle finger, making them look just about ready to break off from his hand entirely
His hand was shaking as he held it out to you, soot-covered palm filling with blood from his wounds
He shrugged. “Eh, not good with knives. I was playing a knife game, you know? And then STAB! Right in my finger.”
“You supid, stupid man! How could- Why would you do something like that?” You scolded, grabbing him by the wrist and dragging him in the direction of your tent
You waved to Milo over your shoulder, his curious stare never leaving you as the two of you disappeared into the tent
You didn’t notice, but as you dragged Vinny to your tent, Jebidiah begrudgingly handed Audrey a handful of dollar bills as she sent the old man a shit eating grin
Vinny grinned, though it was barely visible under his mustache, as he watched you frantically search through an overfilled bag of medical supplies
You got to work quickly after, cleaning and bandaging the cuts all the while scolding him. Supplies were already low, and if you were to make it safely to your destination you would need the ones you still had left. His stupid antics could potentionally be a threat to the wellbeing of everyone else, and you sure let him know that
He remained silent for most of it, occasionally letting out a few hisses or mumbles of Italian curse words as you worked on his hand
“There,” You said, delicately tying the final knot on his bandage. “You should be just fine now, be more careful in the future though or it won't heal,” You gently patted his hand, before letting it go completely
Vinny was quicker than you and before you could turn away, he grabbed your hand again. He pulled you a bit closer, his thumb rubbing circles over the back of your hand
You stared up at him, a bit bewildered, cheeks glazing over with a red tint. Of course you had been close to a man before, close to him before, but somehow this felt very different from your other encounters with the explosives obsessed florist
He lifted the corners of his lips up in another grin, still holding your hand as if it were made of glass. “Thank you, bella infermiera.” he muttered and nodded gravely
You stared at him, wetting your lips before saying “Stop calling me that. Or, at least tell me what it means,”
You put on your most threatening look, which was actually closer to a kicked puppy than some big scary individual
Vinny’s grin became a tight line as he thought for a moment
“It means, I’m sweet on you.” He said, too embarrassed to say the actual meaning of the sentence
Your eyes widened impossibly further and your whole body tensed, looking up at Vinny with a furious blush and a shocked expression
He mistook your silence for disapproval and dropped your joined hands, looking away with a frown
“… I’m sweet on you too.” You squeaked out, immediately looking away.
And it was true, you had been sighing over the explosives technician for weeks. To the point where Milo noticed because you stopped paying attention to his long rants as long as you caught sight of Vinny
You felt fingers firmly grip your chin, meeting Vinny’s eyes as your head was gently moved
He was handsome, way more up close. You violently fidgeted with your skirt as Vinny stepped closer to you
“You-you mean that, right?”
You nodded once, not breaking his questioning gaze.
That was all the confirmation Vinny needed before lowering his head and capturing your lips
His mustache tickled your upper lip and you giggled before grabbing his cheeks in your hands to pull him closer
What you hadn’t noticed was that the lantern in the tent illuminated the two of you, making your shadows visible to everyone around the fire
Whoops and cheers echoed from the outside as the two of you kissed deeply
You quickly stepped away from him as soon as you heard and Vinny straightened up, swiftly walking to the tent flaps, sticking his head out to glare at his friends before closing them and walking back to you
He turned off the lantern and thus your makeout session continued
It actually continued way past everyone’s bedtime where it escalated and became rather loud
Everyone was glaring at you the next morning when they hadn’t gotten any sleep because all they could hear were your high pitched gasps of “Vinny!” And his grunting and mumbling
Feel like I got carried a bit away there
The man is literally so sweet, besides the whole “accidentally” hurting himself for romantic attention
He brings you everything he finds, literally everything
Rocks, cool looking sticks, random scraps from bombs, stuff he created, you name it
Literally everything he finds that he thinks is kinda cool
He’s not afraid to get sappy in public either, calling you pet names and straight up confessing his undying love for you when everyone sitting around the fire eating dinner
He sends you love sick glances all day around camp
He even gets all pouty when you tent to other ppl, having to hug you after to make sure you’re not going to leave him for jebidiah or whatever
You’re cute and all- but when I tell you everyone got sick of you real quick lmaooo
Anyways my point is Vinny is best boy
I am literally so in love with him help-
