Only when it’s convenient for the people saying it, like when they’re trying to justify being attracted to teenage girls or not holding boys accountable for being creeps.

Physically: yes, ON AVERAGE, girls start puberty earlier, but it’s a case of overlapping distrubutions. The /mean/ starting age is earlier for girls than the /mean/ age for boys, but that leaves a LOT of room for overlap.

Mentally: no, society just expects many of the traits associated with maturity (things like poise, compassion, calm and thoughtful responses to stimuli) from girls LONG before it expects them from boys, if it ever expects it from them at all. Girls aren’t given a choice but to perform having “matured faster,” often to their own detriment.

Look at my baby 💜😍 She’s getting so old and grey 😭 She turned 12 today and I can’t even fathom how that’s possibly a reality. She’s in her old lady stage now where all she does 99.99% of the time is sleep and when she’s awake all she can do is groan and hobble around with her weak hips and she constantly walks like she’s got a sticker in her foot. But she’s still a puppy inside ready to sprint in circles anytime we go for walks. I feel so lucky that I’m getting to experience her aging with me and I’m able to be with her in her senior years, I’m just still heartbroken I never got that time with Tegan. Having an old dog is honestly so sweet even if it is a constant reminder of her mortality and the fact that all the time from this point forward is really just a gift. It just makes me feel the need to cherish every day with her more. Thinking about losing another dog though is pure hell. Why I thought adopting two dogs of the same age was a great idea without realizing they’d be dying in similar time frames is a mystery to me.
