the pistachio food trend is soooo interesting because it's like. i've been following the californian pistachio water politics for years, as a californian with personal connections to agricultural workers but! basically there's been a big push in california agriculture over the last decade to pressure farmers to produce pistachios, because iran has dominated the global market in pistachios for decades, and the US government has been trying to weaken iran economically, so they want to make california pistachios a competitor. which is ridiculous, because california's agricultural infrastructure is suffering under a drought, and pistachios take insane amounts of water. so a ton of water is being redirected from the people in order to engage in a trade war with iran over fucking. pistachios.

anyway now that the US (i.e. california) is producing more pistachios than iran, the next step is to drive consumption of pistachios, so that the farmers who are producing these pistachios can continue to make money on them. ergo all the fancy pistachio coffees at starbucks and similar shit like suddenly being able to find pistachio butter in grocery stores when five years ago it was exclusively available at specialty stores and online, and the huge boom in pistachios foods in instagram and tiktok recipe content. like i watch a lot of instagram foodie reels (cooking/baking is one of my hobbies) and these get thrown onto everyone's feeds, to promote the purchasing of pistachios, so that the US can stick it to iran. it's. kind of incredible to watch this happen in real time, because it sounds like deranged conspiracy thought, but like. i've been watching this trend for the past decade and it's fucking real.

anyway one of the vegan recipe accounts i follow just posted like five pistachio-based recipes in a row and it makes me feel some kind of fucking way

If I was rich at this point I would just pay cis women to go to town halls held by any democratic politician who has conceded ground on the "we need to make sure women's sports and competitions are fair by keeping men I mean trans women out" and ask them to their face why they are campaigning on a platform of women being stupid and weak. Just non-stop that. I never want them to know a moment's peace again, I want them to have to constantly contend with their platform being "women suck at everything" they should NOT get to shy away from what they're really saying.

But females objectively have different skill sets and strengths to males. I used to do gymnastics as a teen and gave it up due to health problems, but the distinction between men’s and women’s gymnastics was really important and focused on different parts of the body, for a reason. Men’s gymnastics focuses on upper body strength and core, but women’s gymnastics focuses on women’s strengths like having a more stable centre of gravity, better balance, and flexibility.

Nobody wants males (including trans women obviously) to not be in female sports because they think women are stupid and weak (although you clearly do). They want that because it isn’t fucking fair to be a woman, work your whole life to reach the top of your potential, only to loose to men who are also at the top of their potential in addition to having a biological advantage. It’s especially important in dangerous sports like boxing.

Female athletes have worked fucking hard to get their own separate categories because if they didn’t have a separate category they wouldn’t get to compete at the highest level. It’s true that a female athlete could out perform the average man, but that’s not the point if she can’t out perform a male athlete. I’m all for advocating for female strength and skill, but fair is fair and this rhetoric that you’re spinning would only result in women’s sports being a thing of the past and female athletes loosing their hard-earned careers.
