#Kandovan #village is one of the world’s three rock-hewn towns, which is still functioning today. The #caves of this village resemble a gigantic termite colony and were formed by ash and debris from when the now-dormant #Mount Sahand #volcano erupted sometime in the last 11,000 years. These cave-homes are #energy efficient as the rock provides adequate insulation to keep the interiors comfortable during the cold season and cool during the #summer. #Photography: Shahin kamali
