When Evan's father, Lord Lascelles, decides to leave his wife of over three decades to be with Alphard Black (who isn't even an honourable!), Evan feels as though he has every obligation to tell Regulus before the news hits.

He simply declines to consider their shared past from school. It was twenty years; it hardly matters that Evan's never gotten over him, right? That he's still in love with him? This is just a one-off discussion. Nothing at all will come of it.

Unless, that is, Regulus realises what a mistake he's made — and that Evan has truly changed since they were teenagers.

Rosewater? I don't actually know how related Regulus and Evan are like I'm sure they're cousins on both sides but I have no idea how distantly. Would their families agree to their relationship because of their societal status? Did Walburga and Orion sit down and say "I know they're queers but Andromeda just ran off with a muggleborn and if the heir to the house of Black and the heir to the house of Rosier want to do a merger who are we to stop them"

So I’m imaging this like a regulus doesn’t die AU kinda and Evan is killed by moody, which is met by pure rage from reg who comes out of hiding and tries to kill moody, but he’s unsuccessful and put in askaban, but then breaks out like everyone else in 4 (I think I haven’t read the books in a while) and is still out for moody and has been planning this all that time in askaban. His plan goes good and he finally kills moody only to learn it’s actually barty in polyjuice. Like that’s so devastating

Also like the brothers being in prison at the same time??

so now that this modern au second chance romance is going to be alternating pov… there’s the age-old question on how to translate pureblood culture

should Regulus and Evan be actual nobility or just rich as anything

nobility/peerage

just rich

not actual peers themselves but related to / descended from peers

some notes:

regulus is going to be a retired footballer

regulus and evan will have gone to school together

if they are actual peers, regulus would be out of the direct lineage (either as the second son or grandson of a duke or marquess), but evan would not be (and he’d have a fun courtesy title)

if they’re not in the peerage, their parents will have been mps (thinking evan’s dad and walburga rather than orion)

I typically do historical AUs with them as members of the peerage and modern AUs with them just rich but I thought it might be fun to play around here
