—Then i’ll let Uncle and Ma escape and remain to face the orcs with you.
Ah, the picture doesn’t match the scenario (which came from a Sengoku Musou fan manga i came across btw). Just thought i’d drop a note before heading out of the country: i’m away in May until after the 20th. So excited to see family & friends! >A<
This is something i've always wanted to draw for this story. Their family bond in such a harsh environment is so beautiful. I didn't intend to post this picture, but it's linked now so I can't delete it either, can i? Well i'm going to ramble about the story now anyway, what else is more appropriate to start with? w
1. At what point did you feel like "Ah, now the story has really begun!"
I'm not completely sure actually. Following updates feels much different compared to reading the whole story at once. I didn't actually subscribe until the first village walk or the following chapter. After the attack I became more excited to read each update so i'll answer "the attack."
2. What were the points where you found yourself skimming?
I don't skim. But to answer the implied question, i'd say the early interactions with Firebeard villagers. When following the story, i had thought "again?" a few times when Kíli got bullied by different people. I was afraid the story would proceed into a cliché power imbalance—and the fact these villagers are OCs didn't help. My judgement on OCs may not be fair, but that's what happens with fanfics, right? So when Kíli proved to be determined and capable, i found myself much more interested in how the story would unfold. On re-read though, the building up does feel much more necessary in providing justification for the final outcome, which is Fíli leaving of course.
3. Which setting in the book was clearest to you as you were reading it? Which do you remember the best?
If it's about how the environment was described, then it would be the first description of the Firebeard village (the mountainside houses especially). I also remember the half melted snow in the mountain pass—oh god i can just feel my own feet cold and wet orz
4. Which character would you most like to meet and get to know?
Bilbo! Aside from all his wonderful cooking, i'd like to learn how he managed to keep such a sweet and caring soul even after all that he's been through. He's a Mahal-sent.
The blue-tattooed dwarf would be interesting too. I was happy to see him again at the tailor's. He even asked about Kíli's well-being—this is where i liked most about the portrayal of Firebeard people. Like i said before, i believe they are not evil people even though their ways are different. I'd really like to see this guy and other villagers recover from the loss of their leader—however selfish and cruel he may seem, he is still leader of the clan—and many warriors.
AND i can't talk about characters without mentioning Fíli. For some reason i always seem to look for a likeable Fíli in any story i read. This Fíli covers every trait i can think of, quite literally: the stern and tough demeanor against external pressure and threats, the caring nature around family and others in need, the doubts and uncertainties toward the idea of leaving the familiar and delving into the unknown. The line i remember most is the only one hurt more than Kíli is Fíli. It's powerful not for what it states, but for summing up all his struggles the story has shown.
5. What was the most suspenseful moment in the book?
OMG that arrow orz I'm pretty sure many who followed will agree with me on this.
6. If you had to pick one character to get rid of, who would you axe?
I'd rather not do this to anyone, but well.. okay i was going to say the blacksmith or the healer, but on second thought, i think i'd go with scarred-face or that second-in-command guy. Even though the latter two probably appeared more in key events towards the end, i don't remember what they did. The blacksmith and the healer are both responsible for important evil deeds that cannot be omitted; whereas these two could've easily been replaced by other characters in whatever events they partook in.
7. Was there a situation in the novel that reminded you of something in your own life?
The language part, very much. I don't remember picking up English (3rd language by order in which i learnt) being anything special, so i was rather frustrated at Kíli not understanding Fíli at the beginning LOL But then again, i had kids my age to play with and i was much much younger; so it doesn't really qualify as a comparison after all. On the other hand, i had experience similar to Fíli as well. The first time i visited osananajimi in Chicago, i picked up Chinese in about a week, after a good 20 years of disuse—or extremely limited use. Yes i still fail at pronouncing and constructing sentences that don't sound like a kindergartner, but i understand conversations. It's amazing how well children's brains remember.
8. Where did you stop reading, the first time you cracked open the manuscript?
I had waited out 2 or 3 chapters before the attack.
9. What was the last book you read, before this? And what did you think of it?
Last fanfic (simutaneously to be exact): He Hung the Moon and Painted in the Stars
Last novel: 妃は船を沈める by 有栖川有栖—a Japanese mystery. This applies to the series, but i do like how Himura and Alice share the protagonist role. Himura is the all logic detective and Alice takes care of the emotional stress and expression. Alice can get confused and taken advantage of sometimes, but he doesn't get captured all the time by the bad guys LOL Which i really appreciate.

Coloured because my stomach is satisfied—a little stuffed in fact—and tonight i feel slightly more in control compared to 24hrs ago. Forgive me for latching onto the tiniest bit to satisfy my own need for some warmth and sweetness!
My boss decided to take me to ramen today, out of all possible days. The update notice came right after i got into the car. All the food and drink and company would've been a total blast had it been any other day, really. But this was just the worst timing possible. I probably right out spelled someone-cannot-sit-still. So yeah, i didn't quite get to read it until the date changed. Anyway.
Now. I look forward to the moment when their disastrous first time finally gets overwritten! >v<
It's cold. It's wet. It's one of those days when nothing comes out onto the canvas quite right. So much was going on in my head while i read and re-read the chapter, but none of that seemed to have translated as coherent images.

I'm sure everyone's had similar experiences. It doesn't matter how lively the surrounding is, being an outsider always means being miserable. In fact, the more exciting the surrounding, the deeper the misery—even worse if there are expectations of you.
Just think about a monochrome image of a large city crowd with only one colour figure standing stiffly in the middle. In the crowd but not fitting in. Exactly that.
Age 20→120 probably? I wonder what happened. Genuinely. The position is a little off, if you know what i'm talking about. Still far from my own 着エロ ideals. Very far.

Did you know, it's actually 菲力？

Kíli = 奇力; 奇 = super, extraordinary; 力 = power, strength.
Fíli = 菲力; 菲 sounds the same as 非, which is a negation.
I couldn't get over the literal meaning of their names after wonderful Ares told me. So yes, totally unexpected (and therefore straight rough) wwwww And now i realized, 非力 is actually not a word in Chinese. It's Japanese. Ah well, when you grow up with these two painfully similar languages mixed, you can't tell much of a difference.
As much as i love happy endings, sometimes i do want to read a tragedy of some sort. Fíli and Kíli can be enemies—possibly being supported by different political parties in a bloody war for the throne. They, and their supporters for that matter, can play mind games and attempt assassinations for all i care. It would be the death of me though, if all along Fíli had planned to be killed by his own brother. You are never going to forget me if i died by your very hands, right?
I'm somewhat sorry for enjoying the act of smearing blood on the brothers.
I'm a costumer, but unfortunately armours are still of unknown territory. Hopefully this can be fixed someday.

Smut(?) is as interesting as fighting for it's also interaction between bodies, essentially. Truth is, i have a thing for 着エロ - uh, smut with clothes on? Not that i'm shy or pretending to be shy; i just think being sexy is a completely different concept from being naked and the use of clothing aids expression.
Since there are so many wonderful characters in the fandom, i should finally make that werewolf game au i've been dying to do with them. I'm a sucker for mystery & suspense.
Mahal knows how much i admire people who write/draw series and go through with them.
