Young Volcanoes || Serena & Touko
Serena winced at Toukoâs volume, but made no attempt to quiet her. They were some of the only patrons at the moment, and she wouldnât even know how to start telling someone they were being too loud.Â
"I traveled a lot as a kid, but I grew up in Kalos, so Iâm pretty used to how things work. Frites are fries by the way."
Serena took a moment to flip through the menu even though she already knew what she was going to order. Looking at menus was a good way to appear busy and avoid eye contact at the same time, so Serena was an expert at spending too long contemplating her options. Touko was looking at the menu too and humming a tune that Serena couldnât place. Listening to it helped her feel a little more calm. Youâre fine Serena. Youâve talked to loads of people and gone to plenty of restaurants. Donât freak out. She was startled out of her head by the near silent approach of the waiter. Just as Serena was wondering if Touko was going to order first she caught the look she was giving her. It was the most unsure she had seen the girl up until this point, and it made her feel that much more comfortable.
"Iâll have the house salad please."Â She waited as he jotted down her order. "My friend will have the steak frites, medium rare."
The waiter finished writing down the order before thanking them and retreating to the back of the restaurant.
"I hope you donât mind that I ordered for you. If you wanted something else I can call him back."
"Ohohohohoho, fries, eh? Well I'm definitely down for that!"
Touko closed her menu and waited patiently as Serena made the order, breathing a little sigh of relief when the girl ordered for her. She hadn't been sure how to go about requesting her food and probably would've botched it and made an ass of herself - so it was nice to watch the exchange happen without being forced to partake.
"I don't mind at all!" Touko said cheerfully when Serena gave a little nervous smile. "Medium rare is exactly how I like it." Her short legs swung back and forth underneath the table, the heels of her boots making soft scuffing noises against the floor. "But man, you planning on ordering anything else besides a salad? No bread, no meat? That must be why you're so skinny!" She laughed. "Welllll, you can have some of my frites I guess."
The trainer's tone of voice was neither accusatory nor aggressive; she was merely fascinated that someone could sustain themselves on plants alone. She tapped a finger to her lips. "But maybe that's also why you're so tall. Y'think eating more veggies will give me an extra few inches? Even though I stopped growing when I was twelve?"
