âIt? Oh dear.. Can you at least tell us what âitâ is? Will you be safe here?â They gave a concerned look to the handprints, not able to see the spirit though it seemed they could hear them. âAlice, I think we should goâŠâ
âFuck me fuck me fuck me fuck me I KNEW IT WAS TOO EASY!!!!â Alice screamed into a crescendo and backed the hell up. She needed to leave, NOW!
âShit! Letâs leave now, I think weâve done all we can do!âDuet was losing what remained of their calm demeanor. Backing up with Alice, pushing her to run away. Clearly they werenât going to be able to fight it, even with two people. It was terrifying, to be honest. How would they even begin to get rid of something that could regenerate that fast?!
âFUCKING SHIIIT!!!â Alice screamed, running out of the house. Duet didnât need to push her any further.
Duet ran after her, not looking back until they were safe. âI donât think Iâve ever seen something like that before.. So powerful..â
Alice wanted to keep running until she was on the other side of the town, but her legs and lungs could only handle so much. She stopped at an intersection, gasping for air.
âYou see?!âŠ*wheeze* This is why I donât fuck with things *gasp* Iâm not trained in!! And I donât fuck with idiots who donât know what theyâre doing!!âÂ
"Rude. I know what I'm doing, but.. hindsight is a gift. Unfortunately, I can't predict the future. How was I to know that that.. thing would be so powerful?"
đ "Ahh!" Alice made a warning shout. "Put that down! The ghost is giving you MASSIVE death stares, and she intends to murder you if you take it!"
âOh, thereâs a ghost?â They set the amulet down on the counter in front of them, backing up to give the ghost some room. âMy apologies, ma'am.. I thought I checked this for any hauntings, but I suppose I didnât do a good job. Would you mind if I just looked at this necklace? I wonât take it, I promise.â
They turned to Alice, raising an eyebrow in surprise. âI didnât know you could see ghosts..â
ââŠWait, thatâs it? You asked questions? What the hell did you ask?â
If asking spirits on how to be a psychologist gets you in trouble, then sheâs fucked.Â
âAh.. I donât clearly remember, but it was.. inappropriate questions to ask a ghost, unless they trust you.. things like how they died, why theyâre here in the afterlifeâŠâ
Alice hadnât seen that in the book. Then again, she hasnât finished it.
ââŠGood to know.â She said. Honestly, it shouldâve been common sense to her. After all, she didnât like explaining the Train Incident for more than one reason.
They nodded, sighing softly. âI regret it everyday, but⊠It feels good to get it off my chest.â But.. would Alice tell their secret? They didnât want rumors to spread..
Alice was waiting for them to double in pain from that âregretâ commentâŠ.nothing appeared to happen. But it was second nature for her to instantly not trust someone after learning their past. She couldnât even trust herself.
âSo how can I trust you now? Not by telling the truth, but doing the right thing?â
âIâm assuming Iâve destroyed any little shred of trust between us already? Thatâs alright. You donât need to trust me, Iâll always be here with my books. But.. yes, doing the right thing.â
Alice squinted. No sign of pain from them. Still, she was stuck between the truth displayed to her and her default distrust.
She sighed, turning from them. âI donât knowâŠâ It was all that she could say.Â
âThatâs perfectly fine. I wouldnât expect you to know. Humanity is strange, is it not? People are constantly changing and learning⊠Itâs amazing.â
âHumanityâs evil.â Alice corrected them curtly, turning back to them. It was like that sentence just burst out of her.
"How are you so sure? You're human, aren't you? And surely you're not evil?" They raised an eyebrow. "I see. People have hurt you before, haven't they? Is that why you think humanity is based off of evil?"
đ "Ahh!" Alice made a warning shout. "Put that down! The ghost is giving you MASSIVE death stares, and she intends to murder you if you take it!"

Duetâs yelped snapped her out of her slight fear paralysis. She ripped the cork off, got closer, and splashed the holy water onto the beast in a cross motion. âThe power of Christ compels you!! The power of Christ compels you!!â
The beast gave a pained roar, the holy water starting to dissolve it. Melting into the ground, leaving behind bloody handprints. Duet watching it melt, a horrified look on their face before they saw Alice. âYou saved me⊠I.. I donât know how to thank you..â
Alice was dumbfounded. âThatâŠI didnât expect it to work that fast! Last few times Iâve done this, it just chased demons away, or it took longer than that. Was it that weak?â
That was true.. it did happen too quickly, and it wasn't like the beast disappeared into thin air. It had just melted.. A moment passed, Duet seeming slightly dumbfounded as well. And then it rose again, letting out a thunderous growl. Two heads sprouting from it's shoulders, almost like.. a hydra, that mythic monster who sprouted two new heads in the place of one.
đ "Ahh!" Alice made a warning shout. "Put that down! The ghost is giving you MASSIVE death stares, and she intends to murder you if you take it!"

lose yourself in a dream
bravery. you've hardened a shell around the person that you used to be. there was only so much you could take until you needed to gain control, change the only thing you could. you might think there's only a yolk left inside, but there's so much more. in the corners and in the crevices, there's pieces of you that you never got to meet. i promise that little kid is still in there. things will get better because you're good at breaking through things. so keep yourself together, yeah? that little kid still hasn't seen the rest of the world yet.

âIt? Oh dear.. Can you at least tell us what âitâ is? Will you be safe here?â They gave a concerned look to the handprints, not able to see the spirit though it seemed they could hear them. âAlice, I think we should goâŠâ
Alice could hear the howling and screaming. She stopped for a moment. But only for a moment. Nothing she could do. She kept goingâŠ
Duet yelped. Clearly something was going wrong in there already. âOh no.. No, help! Someone help!â
Their voice echoed out to her. Alice suddenly felt torn. She should just cut her loses, and let them fall from their foolishness. ButâŠ.it reminded her ofâŠ.
No.
Alice cursed under breath and ran back to into the shadows. She followed the buzzing in her head and reached for her holy water vialâŠÂ
âGo back where you came from, beast! Leave these spirits at peace!â Duet was trying to fight off what looked like.. a very large dog? It was difficult to tell in the dark, but it had large horns, shimmery black fur, and paws soaked in blood. It was currently backing Duet into a corner, the book keeper barely keeping it away, chanting something in an ancient language.
Just a little further andâŠ
â!!!â
Holy shit that thing was huge! Its abhorrent aura made her hesitate. She fumbled with the cork on the vialâŠÂ
Duet didn't seem to notice Alice there, their view blocked by the large.. thing. They yelped as it slashed at them, barely missing them.
