If you regularly watch porn and in the process dehumanise women, yourself included, that’s the mainstream straight man’s experience that has rubbed off on you. There’s a level of mental detachment that one needs to have from pornography. The reason why so many people, both men and women, watch porn and then get all these dehumanizing ideas is because they can’t properly distinguish between fantasy and reality.

Any type of porn, no matter how vanilla or fetishistic, was constructed to satisfy one’s libido, to fulfill a need to sexually relieve oneself. That’s all. It shouldn’t be influencing the way you perceive the world and especially other people.

Says someone who has recently reblogged disgusting porn gifs on her blog and who is clearly feeling targeted by this post. The “level of detachment” you’re talking about is not something to brag about, it means you’re not thinking about what you’re seeing, not thinking about what’s becoming acceptable to your brain. These videos may be scripted (less and less with the rise of home-made videos) but the acts are very real, pretending none of that has incidence is a straight-up lie. We already know that watching porn requires a certain level of detachment, that’s the problem. I have been there in the past and it’s something I regret because the straight male gaze has influenced me and now I have to get rid of all of this shit and it takes time, which is exactly why this post was made.

Porn is dehumanising women and we cannot stop it from influencing us if we keep watching it, as simple as that. That’s the whole job of the dopamine releases, making viewers acquire more and more “kinks” as their brain are now associating these practices with pleasure. The fact that you reblogged without a problem raw porn content on a blog where you somehow also reblog feminist posts is proving that you’re already detached from reality and not seeing your cognitive dissonance, ironically still in that “level of detachment” needed to watch porn. You’re stuck with it for now, with that vision of sex straight men are imposing to us all. I see someone who’s trying to find excuses and failing. We can satisfy our libido without porn, frankly only a porn addict would say otherwise.

Do whatever you want, but stop trying to make porn looks like a non-problem that is somehow not affecting you. Lesbians don’t have to live by the rules of sexist men. 1. I don’t feel targeted whatsoever, nor am I bragging about anything. I’m simply giving my perspective/opinion. What I said is exactly what I meant; no excuses, justifications or anything.

2. Just because I reblog some feminist posts doesn’t mean I’m a feminist wholeheartedly. I just agree with MOST of what y’all have to say (particularly the gender critical stuff). I hold various beliefs, and some intersect with each other while some don’t. Besides, this is my blog and I can post whatever I want. It’s nothing more than an expression of what I think. There’s no cognitive dissonance here.

3. The way that I consume pornography genuinely does not affect the way I view women. It activates a different part of my brain that remains separate from everything else, which turns on and off like a light switch whenever I’m in the process of reaching an orgasm. Afterwards, I don’t think about it anymore; it doesn’t obscure my perception of women because it doesn’t exist until I get the urge to masturbate again (which is a purely physical sensation that comes about randomly, not triggered by any particular thoughts/fantasies). When I said that there has to be some mental detachment, I literally meant disengaging parts of the brain.

4. Lesbians are not a monolith. I agree that love between women is fundamentally different from heterosexual love, but our desires are not the same.
