Kreuzenstein Castle, Austria 🇦🇹
Burg Kreuzenstein is a spectacular hilltop castle located near Vienna in Austria. With its towers, walls, and courtyards, it looks like a classic medieval fortress, although much of its current appearance dates from the 19th century.
The original castle was built in the 12th century but was destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War. In the late 19th century, Johann Nepomuk Wilczek rebuilt it using original medieval materials collected from across Europe, creating the impressive structure seen today.
Kreuzenstein Castle was designed to resemble an authentic medieval fortress and contains a remarkable collection of historical weapons, armor, furniture, and artworks.
Today, it is one of Austria’s most popular castles and has appeared in numerous films and television productions thanks to its dramatic architecture and panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.
