The Angels' Share Official Trailer

     I chose this movie instead of The Wind That Shakes the Barley because I am a brewer myself and can identify with the passion and the curiosity that hook people into creating spirits and all the work and time that goes into just to produce a small batch.

     This film had a feel of Trainspotting because most of the main characters were cast as being in trouble with the law and the main plot was them trying to overcome their past and live a trouble free life.  Of course like Trainspotting there was lots of drinking of alcohol as well. 

     I had originally wanted to use another clip I had found but it wasn't such a well rounded representation of the narrative as this trailer. I hope I have inspired some classmates to watch this movie, it’s really well directed and written. I give it two thumbs up!

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - Longboard Scene

BQ 10.3

     Some of the cinematographic elements that are prevalent in this short 2 minute clip are different point of views, framing, and definitely the use of a steadicam.

     This is one of my favorite scenes from this movie.  In this scene the main character Walter Mitty has to get to town as soon as possible to catch up with another man who is about to take off on a airplane.  As he climbs up the bluff and the large expanse also known as a extreme long shot unfolds before him it is shown through his eyes.  While he’s screaming down the hill there are a couple of over the shoulder shots as well a few reverse shots showing his exhilaration. The shots that were taken very close to him I’m sure a steadicam was utilized in order to get those smooth shots even while moving so quickly and down the bumpy road which was filmed in Iceland by the way!

I was happy to use this movie as an example for this project because although it did not do very well at the box office it will always remain in my top 10 films.

This is Your Fight Song (Rachel Platten Scottish Cover)

BQ 10.1.      In this cultural event that shows a clear sense of rising Scottish nationalism  feeling in Scotland shows two main musical artists covering a recent top 40 hit by Rachel Platten called This is Your Fight Song.  The artists choose to couple or merge it with the long time wondrous song Amazing Grace.  

     I believe that this particular song resonates along side the sense of rising Scottish nationalism simply because the Scottish it seems have been fighting for their freedom for a very long time.  In this video there are fabulous shots of bagpipers, castles, drummers, and the sea, all of which Scotland is famous for.  May favorite part is the fact that they have the Scottish flag flying proudly throughout the video. 5.2.

     In April of last year (2014) the Queen of Britain traveled to Ireland for a banquet to honour the Irish President Michael Higgins.  In the video he can be heard saying how happy that their two countries are working together and in the Queen's speech she says pretty much the same thing.  It has got to be hard for the two leaders who have witnessed the cause of killings and murders over religion, land, and differences, but both leaders seem ok with putting all that behind them.

     Personally, I’m glad they are getting along, war is never the answer, especially since they live together in such close proximity.  For the adults that are raising a new generation of children I’m happy for most of all.  It’s hard for me to imagine having to tell my child her mother got blown up at the marketplace. All the movies I watched while researching this question were hard to stomach and get through.  That’s why I picked this one in particular.

BQ  5.1.

Where am I?

     In this short two and a half minute film it show a man trapped in a confined space with seemingly no way out.  At the end of the film the camera pans upward for the audience to see that the man is indeed in a coffin buried under six feet of ground.

     I choose this film because it tells of an angle I didn’t expect but should have known occurred. In the link below by the BBC it reports how people who are the close relatives of the men and women who were taken from their homes and never heard from again consequently left the families feeling empty and trapped inside themselves not knowing their whereabouts or even having a body to bury for closure.

     This relates to what were learning in class by showing the outside view about how war and violence can cause humans to become so terrible to our fellow man. Sadly, as more and more days and years go past I’m afraid they may never find them...

BQ 4.2. This video clip I found from Vimeo explains a lot about the historical nature of what is Irish nationalism and how a significant amount of Irish history unfolded.   This video describes what happened in their history of the Irish people from 1200 A.D. till April 1916.  This video explains a great deal about how Irelands timeline of events unfolded so that I was able to grasp much more clearly the who, what, where, how, and why things happened the way they did.  For me I didn’t fully understand what the Easter Rising and the repercussions of that particular event in Irelands future.

Mary Kate: “Father, could I... could I tell you in the Irish?”

The character I’m choosing is Father Peter Lonergan who is played by Ward Bond.  I would classify him as a “helper” since his roll in the film is that of a Catholic priest.  The reason I chose him is because he is a passionate fly fisherman like me.
