This is my first time drawing a female couple together! I'll explain who they are for those who don't know them:
Aisha Redgrave is an abandoned early concept from the development of the first Devil May Cry (2001).
In the initial stages of the game, when Dante was still called Tony Redgrave and the project had strong Resident Evil influences, Aisha was planned as Tony/Dante’s partner. She was meant to be his foster sister and, according to concept art analyzed by fans, possibly his lover as well. This idea was discarded and replaced by Trish, the blonde demonic woman created by Mundus to impersonate Dante’s mother, Eva. Aisha never appeared in any game, anime, novel, or officially released material. She is only mentioned in a discarded DMC1 script as Dante’s foster sister. It is purely a pre-production detail, mainly mentioned on fan sites such as thereddevilschronicles.jimdofree.com in the DMC1 trivia section.
In summary: Aisha is just a “ghost” from the old development — the initial version of Dante’s female partner that eventually evolved into Trish. In the discarded DMC1 script version, both women became separate characters.
Beryl is the deuteragonist of Devil May Cry Volume 2, the Japanese light novel from 2006 written by Shinya Goikeda. She acts as Dante’s partner in a story that serves as a bridge between the events of Devil May Cry 1 and Devil May Cry 2.
Appearance: A young woman with curly red hair. She wears a black bodysuit reinforced with metal plates and studs. She has a scar on her collarbone that burns when the cursed artifact Beastheads is nearby.
Personality: Fierce, determined, brave, stubborn, and impulsive. She also has a sensitive side and draws inspiration from the legend of Sparda.
Backstory: As a child, her father used the cursed artifact Beastheads, a demonic statue, in a desperate attempt to resurrect his wife. The artifact possessed him and turned him into a demon. Before he was killed, he stabbed Beryl with the object. The resulting scar gave her the ability to sense the presence of the Beastheads.
Role in the story (light spoiler-free summary): Beryl is a Devil Hunter who hires Dante to destroy the Beastheads once and for all. Together they face the cursed artifact, demons, experiments, and even a parallel dimension. Beryl fights alongside Dante using her large anti-tank rifle that fires special anti-magic bullets, creating an intense partner dynamic. In the end, she completes her personal revenge and goes her own way.
Beryl is considered one of Dante’s most memorable partners outside the main games. She receives minor indirect references, such as a magazine in Devil May Cry 5, but she only truly exists in this novel.
Quick difference between the two:
Aisha: Discarded concept from DMC1 — she never truly existed in the universe.
Beryl: Official character from Novel Volume 2 — she has a complete backstory, well-defined personality, and a strong partnership with Dante.
I know that Aisha and Beryl never actually met, and that Beryl was the one who gave Dante a kiss on the cheek. Making both of them lesbian characters (with Beryl as bisexual) is just an AU for a fanfic, so no worries.
As for Aisha’s appearance, she was originally blonde! But I decided to change it to chocolate brown because we hardly have any characters with that hair type, and I made her a brunette as a form of representation.
