Father's Day is really a day about those 'men' in our lives who stepped up to the plate and took on a role for a child that helped steer the course of their lives. It's not always the man who biologically planted the seed but the one who made sure that seedling was strengthened to survive in the harshness of the world. The fathers, uncles, grandfathers, coaches, mentors, neighbors, teachers, stepdads, leaders. Those men who taught us how to light a campfire, scale a mountain, drill a hole, hit a ball, ride a bike, surf a wave, paddle a boat, dig a trench, build a solid foundation, treat other's well, clean a fish, bait a hook, till the soil, bandage a wound, chop wood, hold on, let go. Who encouraged, stayed firm, guided. Those who taught us to laugh, dance, and enjoy the process. To the fathers who had to be mothers and mothers who had to be fathers.
