learning a new "hobby"

a friend from across the globe told me she started painting and found it therapeutic. i was skeptical, knowing i have zero capabilities when it came to illustrating. it was never therapeutic for me, rather, frustrating. it was only after watching tons of art vlogs on youtube recently that i felt inspired and tried to practice sketching and painting again. the last time i held a pencil and paintbrush was i think around 8 years ago when i had an illustration module for my diploma in visual comm and the stuff i made then were quite horrible i developed some sort of fear when it comes to drawing. thank God our teacher was forgiving. anyway, it's been a few weeks since i tried doing a sketch every day just to practice portraits (i've always been drawn to them). and now i think i finally agree with my friend. there's a certain part in the process of sketching/painting that you really forget about everything else and it's quite satisfying. and so this one is a portrait study i found decent enough to post on here. i decided on gouache as the first medium i'll learn to get into because it's apparently the middle ground of acrylic and watercolor, but i'm finding out it's still quite a difficult medium to control for someone who's trying to just get acquainted with painting. i still have so much to learn (i wish i had all the time in the world) and i hope i'll stick to this hobby for a while so i can get better someday and tell myself that i'm not afraid of drawing anymore.

Life Update. Hello again, tumblr.

i wanted to post some things and get them out of my system without so many people knowing and i feel like no one that i know is on here anymore so... it's been years since I last posted something on this space but somehow i felt like blogging (if that's still a thing). it's like i'm reconnecting with an old friend again. so hello again, tumblr. I'm 27 now, and I think we first met when I was 16/17. i used to post here a lot for the hearts and reblogs, but now i'm just looking for an outlet to sort out my thoughts, i guess. so here we are.
