Time Crash - Behind the Scenes - Part Eleven

Excerpts from the Radio Times interview with Peter Davison (2007):

"The idea of coming back to play the Doctor was mentioned to me casually a few months ago: would I be interested? And I said 'Yes!' I didn't really have to think about it, partly because it gives me such credibility with my children. They're huge fans of the new show. Before it came back, they were huge fans of the old Doctor Who videos they saw of me - but they very quickly changed their allegiance to the new Doctor! "I didn't realize then what form my role would take, just that there would be some kind of Children in Need appearance, a little scene. But it turned out to be a brilliant little scene.

The thing about South Downs that gets me is that it was the promise of them being retired. Good Omens started as a comedy about beings (celestial, human, and occult) who are bad at their jobs, and none more so than Aziraphale and Crowley. The two of them invent the entire Arrangement as a way to skive off work and have more time to hang out together! They mouth the party line, but neither one of them more than one-quarter believes it. They always just wanted to quit and hang out and day drink and putter around and goggle at the things humans get up to and occasionally get mixed up in them. The mistake everyone around them made was assuming that being an angel and a demon said something about their nature, but really it was just their job description. And it would have been such a fitting character arc, and perfect send-off, if the ending had gotten things to where they could have said "we are not those jobs anymore, we are just us" and gotten to spend the rest of eternity being themselves. And not working. Which they are very bad at anyway.

Another thought: five separate characters including Crowley and Aziraphale playing or being shown how to play games of skill and chance (some of which are rigged) in the finale only for it to be a plot point that goes absolutely nowhere in the final confrontation with a God who specifically has canonical history of making ridiculous bets with creatures of Hell/Heaven.

The angel and demon who found the loopholes that allowed the arrangement and helped them to delay Armageddon 1.0 didn't find a way to win their world's freedom - like the Bentley - through the games of skill and chance they had played their entire existence?

So many plot points that went nowhere 😩 Baby Jee was clearly meant to be there. He was learning Find the Lady for Plot Reasons tied to the Games of Skill and Chance. He was to S3 what Adam was to S1. He was going to Find the Lady and win the game and change the house rules.

lesser movies than mamma mia (2008) would've made the central conflict be between the three dads and stoked endless competition and jealousy between them, fighting about who gets to be sophie's "real dad" and who has (and had) a "right" to pursue donna but mamma mia is no such movie. mamma mia is a cinematic masterpiece and as such they are pals throughout, happily go along with all the shenanigans and spend loads of quality time together throughout the film. they are just vibing! and then all three of them become the dads no questions asked. no drama! only vibing in greece
