Every time you saw him, he was covered in bruises.
Deep purple, golden yellow and midnight blue spread across his jaw, his cheekbone, his ribs. Skin turned scarlet and ruby red around knuckles and melted in with crimson from split skin. Blood still clung to his lips, temples and eyebrows, making that alabaster scar you love stand out just a little bit more than normal.
This time, though.
This time there was a slight limp and a gnarly black eye that blossomed amongst his usual injuries when he sought you out. He could feel the throbbing, the ache of his skin no doubt darkening to shades of colors that skin absolutely should not be.
It was late enough on a Friday for most students to be shut in their dorms for the night, yet it was early enough that the night owls were nowhere to be found. You were the latter, spread out on your bed with your head dangling over the edge and nightstand lamp on low. The record player on your desk was softly playing Blondie and effectively lulling you to sleep.
Three heavy knocks on your door took you off guard. You were immediately upright - grace never failing you when you need it most - and snatched the weapon stashed under your pillow.
“It’s me,” you heard through the door. Tension left your body at the sound of his voice and you shoved the weapon back under your pillow.
If the immediate adrenaline rush didn’t wake you up a moment ago, seeing your favorite sharp-tongued rat marred to the bone did the trick just fine.
Sure enough he was there: arm braced his weight against your door-frame, favoring one leg over the other. He was wearing the colors of a brilliant sunset, as if he’d been roped into playing an artist’s canvas tonight. It would have been agonizingly beautiful to behold, if he was actually covered in paint instead of pain.
You knew better.
You knew what happened. It’s the same shit, but a different day.
Nothing was said as you stepped aside, inviting him into your room. He barely glanced at you while he limped to your bed, gracelessly falling onto it with a wince.
At least he wasn’t dripping blood everywhere this time.
“Where’s your roommate?” he asked, voice raw and scratchy. From what sort of use, you didn’t want to imagine.
Your heart constricted once, twice, three times.
“Graveyard with everyone else, I think.” you answered, voice even. You reached under your bed and found the first aid kit you began keeping once Marcus became a constant part of your life.
“Not feeling social, I take it?” he asked with a half-smile that made your knees weak. You ignored his flinch when he smiled. He clenched his fists when you dabbed damp gauze on his torn skin, trying to keep still for you while you cleaned everything out.
You shook your head. “Just wanted a night to myself for once. Is there anywhere else you’re bleeding that I can’t see?”
The corners of his mouth twitched up, and he immediately regrets it. He shoved the stinging in his lips down, down, down. “Not sure, but … want to help me check?”
“Maybe next time if you can avoid injured ribs,” you chide back, replacing the bloody gauze with antiseptic, “then we’ll talk about who gets to remove who’s clothes. Do you want a band aid?”
Despite being in pain, Marcus smiled at you again, this time with such softness your heart began to melt instantly. He lifted a battered hand to your face, gently running his fingers over your cheekbone, down your jaw and catching your hand in his. He pulled it away from the supplies and held it in his lap, eyes never leaving yours.
You feel snared like a fly in a spider’s web.
“Yeah, band aids will make all of this exponentially better,” he teased.
You rolled your eyes and laughed soundlessly while you pulled your hand from the warmth of his. The first aid kit gets shoved back under the bed and the bloody tissues in the trash.
“Gonna stay until my roommate comes back?”
You stood in front of him, looking down as he looked up. He wanted to say something so painfully Marcus, you could tell, but you could see in his eyes how tired he was. He just nodded and said yeah instead. You tell him he has to take off the bloodstained t-shirt first, because you are not getting his blood on your sheets again.
He laughed while you smiled, helping him separate the bloody rag from the henley underneath, letting it fall through your fingertips to the floor.
You’re behind him then, propped against the creaking headboard. He didn’t need to be told twice when you took his shoulders in your hands and gently tugged him back into your chest. Marcus nestled himself in your arms, both of you careful of the fresh injuries you just patched up, good as new.
He drifted off to sleep eventually, your fingers softly combed through the dark knots and tangles of his curls. His body gave in to the comfort you brought, the sheer bliss of the his hair being touched. When you looked down at his face, eyes closed, breathing even and quiet … your own breath hitched. Your lungs constricted, throat closed and chest swelled with such a violent burst of contentment. You almost stopped breathing.
You swore this mess of a boy is like the kiss of dawn after being underground for years and years and years. He’s everything to you and nothing to many others. He’s your light in the darkness and comfort in the shadows. He’s your home away from home, and anchor to reality on the days you felt yourself slipping ever so slowly away.
You watched the moon rise and fall out of your window, the stars and planets growing brighter and higher before disappearing and fading back into the sky when the grey rays of Saturday morning began to awaken.
The record eventually faded into silence, blended into the light-less night sky and ghosted your dreams with all the possibilities of your future. The hope it held, and the lack of promises you’ll be able to keep. The adventures you’re sure to have, the hardships you knew you’ll have to face.
Nights like those fill you with the light of catching those dreams. The love of your life safe with you, alone. Everything else in your life was temporarily quiet, uneventful. Calm, even. It was rare, and you drink it up like you’ve been deprived of water your entire life.
This place ate people alive - literally, sometimes - but having those moments, bloody boyfriend and all … you wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

(gif not mine)
A little over a week. Nine days to be exact. That’s how long you had to receive your family’s blood before you met an ill and gruesome fate on your giving day. You were a fledgling blood witch who’d become a victim of circumstance at an even younger age. A casualty of a war you had nothing to do with. Just because of the side you were born on. You thought it was unfair, but still tried not to have a chip on your shoulder. All of this was on your mind before you took a deep breath and opened the door to room 186 to meet the witch Gabriel. I was told he’d be expecting me, you thought as you walked through the hallway of lights. It’d all been arranged by your stepfather, who merely warned you not to be too trusting on your journey. Seeing as how his power was vague foresight, this should’ve clued you in that you wouldn’t be traveling alone. But you had no idea what was coming. “Come in! Come in! Welcome.” You heard his voice calling from the front room. “You must be Y/N, your uncle told me all about you. I will be your guide to my boss, a witch called Mercury.” Hearing your name pronounced in a french accent for the first time brought a giddy smile to your face. You nodded quickly hoping he didn’t notice and saved your questions for later. With that, Gabriel told you to make yourself at home while he started preparing for the journey. You complied. I wonder what his powers are. I wonder if I'll be like him. Or like mom. Watching Gabriel pull out and scatter materials across the counter and stove made you wonder. You’d seen your stepdad do this before but that wasn’t a witch's true power. You were told your mother was a powerful witch. Gabriel spoke again, pulling you from your thoughts. “You’re awfully quiet. That’ll be good for us.” Choosing not to ruin your newly acquired reputation, you continued watching in silence as he worked in the kitchen. The truth was you just had a lot on your mind. Your giving day was approaching soon and you were overwhelmed with excitement, grief, and fear all at the same time. All of this came before your entire life was further derailed by a knock at the door.

A/N: this is a quick idea I had just for those like me, who haven’t recovered from NWH so.. spoilers for the ending of the movie!! it’s a bit sad at first but it has a happy ending.
Summary: Peter gets a surprise on Christmas.
~~~
Peter had done it. He had saved the multiverse, and you along with it. But with all he had accomplished on this last adventure, he didn’t feel like he had much to celebrate. He had lost everything and everyone close to him to a spell cast by the former sorcerer supreme. The spell that took away everyone’s memories of who Peter Parker was. The same spell that sent every visitor from another universe home. He knew he did the right thing, but it was still a huge price to pay. Peter could live without access to stark technology, or having the avengers on speed dial, but the one person he knew he couldn’t bare to be forgotten by was you. Y/N. You’d known Peter for as long as either of you could remember. You’d had countless memories together that go beyond just Spider-Man. In fact, Peter trusted you so much that you were the first person to find out about his secret identity directly from him. Now because of his actions you’d still remember spidey saving you from danger on multiple occasions, but you wouldn’t be able to recall the boy under the mask that rushed home to do math homework with you after his patrol. The boy that ached for your company when the mask came off.
Peter thought about ways to make you remember. Maybe showing up in costume and recreating the first time you saw him in his suit. Or maybe he’d just start telling you facts that only he could know. Then you’d have to believe him right? Either way, he had to make you remember. He promised he would before you shared your last kiss. He intended on keeping that promise. He really did. But that was before he’d seen how happy you were with the acceptance letter in your hands. You, Ned, & MJ had all gotten together to open the letters from your dream school. Thanks to the memory loss of everybody on earth, you’d gotten in. Peter knew he had made a promise to you to find you and make you remember him. But he couldn’t bare having you suffer because you knew him. He also wasn’t sure if he could make you remember in the first place. So instead of holding a conversation about multiversal doom and alternative versions of himself that you were sure to call bull crap on.. he walked into the bakery introduced himself to you, congratulated you on getting into university, ordered a bagel and some coffee from MJ, and left. He settled for a few awkward glances and a short back and forth.
That was the hardest thing Peter ever had to do. You were his safe space, his best friend, and the love of his life. Now he couldn’t even get over his sadness the way he normally would because you weren’t there. He was alone, in his apartment, on christmas eve. Having to start his life completely from scratch. But there was one thing Peter didn’t count on. After he’d left the diner you’d asked Ned and MJ if he’d seemed familiar at all to them. after they both said no, you felt compelled to follow him for a bit to see if that provided any answers for why it felt like you’d been close to him before. It didn’t, but you’d found out where he lived. After your stake out was over you still couldn’t shake him from your mind, and decided to do something about it. Peter had just returned from patrol when the landlord banged at his door startling him and making him stumble through the room. “Hey Parker! Somebody dropped something off for you!” the landlord’s voice boomed from behind the door. “UH- JUST A SECOND UH” peter frantically rushed trying to get his new suit off making tons of commotion. “Don’t bother. I’ll just leave it at the door. Happy Holidays kid.” and with that Peter’s landlord placed what sounded like a small box at the front door. Once he got his suit off and hid it, Peter shuffled towards the door wondering who on earth could’ve possibly left something for him and why? he opened the door to find a present conveniently gift wrapped in red with a blue ribbon atop it. Even more confused than before, he shook the box and decided that since it didn’t trigger his spidey sense he might as well open it.
Peter carefully placed the present down and slowly started unwrapping it to find a card and another box inside. The card was a typical christmas greeting card and Peter almost thought it was the landlord himself that got it for him. Then he started reading the writing inside the card, and that brought tears to his eyes. It was from you. “Hey. You probably don’t remember me from the coffee shop since it’s been a couple days and you’re also probably wondering how I found out where you live but.. I just wanted to say Merry Christmas and I hope we can get to know each other more in the future. see you around. xoxo - Y/N”. The bottom of the note had your number and a heart next to it. Peter couldn’t believe it. Did the mere sight of him make you remember something? Did you know he was Spider-man? So many questions ran through his mind he had almost forgotten you got him a gift. So, before rushing to see if you answered the number on the card, this time he hurried to open the last box. It was a snow globe of new york with some avengers flying overhead. He could see Spider-Man hanging on the side of a building. He wasn’t sure if this meant you remembered him, god he’d hoped. But it was a start. It seemed as though fate was determined for you two to be together no matter what the odds were. Peter’s heart started doing backflips at the thought. You both had been given a second chance.
