I have to admit, the previews and ads for The Greatest Showman weren’t captivating. They were a bit intriguing, but confusing more than anything. Anyways, I felt as a huge supporter of Zendaya that I had to see the movie! And of course, let’s not forget Zac Efron.
Oh my gosh. Let’s start with the acting. Zendaya and Zac were exactly as amazing as you’d expect. And although the movie didn’t focus much on Keala Settle’s character, she portrayed her better than an one else could. The bearded woman was, because of that, in my top three favorite characters from the film. Hugh Jackman naturally brings his own energy to every role he plays. There was so much character development it was amazing. I know some people said his character changed an unrealistic amount, but keep in mind that the movie is taking place over the course of years. The beginning backstory behind his and Michelle Williams’s characters was absolutely adorable. My non-existent heart MELTED. If I said I didn’t go home and play A Million Dreams a million times, I’d be lying.
Which brings me to the next aspect. I’m listening to the soundtrack as I write, and I felt that the occasional musical outburst helped captivate the audience even more. Every voice is so melodic that I can’t get any of the songs out of my head. No joke. They’re all playing in my head at once and my mind is a mess following each one.
Overall, this movie gets two thumbs up from me. Easily one of the best movies of 2017.
