He cared about them all, he really did. Everyone that came to him and everyone he made, they meant something to him but they were not his Bean. When she says she tripped he looks mortified for a moment before wrapping his arms around her to hold onto her. If he’d lost her too, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself. She wasn’t exactly a replacement for her, he hadn’t meant her to be one, but when he saw her starving on the streets he thought of her. She’d want him to save this poor being, this other little Bean. “You’re alive, Bean, that’s what matters. I’ll call her just in case, but I’m going to rip them to shreds for killing our family.”
Bran wipes the corner of her mouth before reaching into the freezer to get her four more bags. Bran hands them to her and tells her to hold them before he lifts her up and proceeds to carry her upstairs to her room. Bran whispers as he walks to be easy on her ears, “You need to drink all of them in order to heal. Don’t worry about the rest. They’ll sleep easy now, and I hear Hell isn’t so bad.”
When he reaches her room, Bran sets her on the bed and sits next to her to watch her eat. Sometimes he wasn’t sure she actually did it; she looked paler than the others.
Bran was the closest thing to a dad she'd ever had. He was kind to her, and gentle. He held her when she asked, and even when she didn't know how to. Somehow, he just knew. She would never be able to repay her debt to him. Maybe it wasn't the life she'd imagined, but it was better than any she'd known. She loved him.
"Still, I'm sorry," she whispers, playing with his fingers as she sips from one of the bags he gives her. Small sips now, her desperation gone. She didn't like eating. Sometimes she gave her half eaten bags to Ethan. He never told on her. Now he was gone. Setting the bag down for a moment, she leans up to kiss his bearded cheek. It's a lingering kiss, more like a nuzzle. "I know you loved them, even if you won't admit it big guy."
Leaning back against her pillows, she resumes eating as she looks into his eyes with utter trust and adoration.
