D23, 2026: Walt Disney Studios Previews "Oswald The Lucky Rabbit" Mini-Series As It Sets February 2027 Launch

A beautiful reunion story 100 years in the making...

As part of the Disney Entertaiment Showcase, Jon Favreau took the stage at the Honda Center to preview "Oswald" a new live-action/animated hybrid series slated for 2027.

Favreau stated that this is a beautiful story reintroducing the character to a new generation while playing tribute to the legacy that Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney brought. In the introductory clip showcased to audiences we see Oswald messing at the Walt Disney Archives where he discovers what his creators did after one century.

The mini-series of three episodes slated for February 2027 will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the character's debut in the short-film "Trolley Troubles". The series will use hand drawn animation done by The SPA Studios ("Klaus") and veteran Walt Disney Animation Studios animators. The cast includes Amy Sedaris, Kathryn Hahn, Steve Martin, Al Madrigal, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Mykal-Michelle Harris and Ryder Allen.

Unused Tenna sprites

Brad Bird once said that you can’t create the illusion of life if you haven’t actually lived one, and that’s a line I think about a lot around the Traumatizing Digital Circus. This comic was inspired by: the purpose of making your own art in a world where AI image generators can churn out endless content for you, the way 3D software makes it easy to create infinite spaces but hard to capture authentic hand-drawn human touches, the way all my college art teachers were skeptical of the students’ desire to make anime-inspired stylized 3D visuals right up until it became the new trend in the animation industry—- and how easy it is to get so lost in the technical aspects of art & the consequences of failure that you lose sight of what art is even supposed to be for.

i think MORE characters should be rape survivors. i think more characters should be csa survivors. i think more characters should be dv survivors. i think strong and noble and attractive and charming and brilliant characters with indomitable spirits should be survivors. i think the most powerful characters in the world should be survivors. i think characters who are cultural icons should be survivors. i think victims and survivors should see ourselves in the most admirable and beloved characters around! i think we should be protagonists!!!

#‘it’s so unnecessary’ . okay . god yea this one drives me CRAZY. people will yap all day long about how it's "unnecessary" to make a character a survivor like do you think it was necessary for any of us to be abused or raped irl? was it narratively essential? did it teach the audience an important lesson? why do we, who have to justify our experiences and existences and reactions all the time in real life, also have to justify why we should exist in fiction? people act so repulsed by the thought of us. i've really fully and truly had enough of that. there is nothing so uniquely disgusting or repulsive or unspeakable about our victimhood or our survival that justifies this obsession with keeping the reality of our existence hidden

"oh but talking about it can be triggering for victims :(((" you know what else is triggering? living in a world that insists that we cannot be open and honest about what happened to us. maybe if we had, oh, i don't know, prominent examples in our cultural stories of people who are victims and are competent and strong it might be easier (for everyone, not just victims) to have the discussions we actually need to have about our trauma.
