How we made a horse trailer body both lightweight and strong?

Traditional horse trailers are mostly made of wooden boards and aluminum panels, and people are happy to use these materials because they are easy to obtain, or some manufacturers are obsessed with metal materials. The strength of these materials is relatively high but the flaws are also obvious. Maybe you should consider new materials. We have developed a new type of fiberglass composite panel as the trailer body material. Here are some of our recommendations for horse trailers, drawn from years of experience building boxes and proven by many horse trailer manufacturers.

Side Wall Panels

We have two types of sandwich panels for horse trailer side walls: fiberglass PET sandwich panels, and fiberglass plywood sandwich panels. More and more cabinet manufacturers are using fiberglass composite materials to replace metal and wood to achieve lightweight.

Traditional horse trailer floors are wooden floors or non-slip aluminum plates. Wooden floors are extremely difficult to clean after being contaminated by horse excrement, and will corrode. If these excrements cannot be cleaned up in time, it will not only damage the health of the horse, but also Destroy the structure of the horse trailer. Floors made of anti-skid aluminum plates will be dented and deformed due to long-term collision with horseshoes, and will lose their original friction over time. Traditional box truck bodies equipped with fully opaque roofs often have limited natural light inside the cargo area. When interior lighting is not switched on, the compartment can become dark, making loading, unloading, cargo inspection, and inventory management more difficult.

How to achieve thermal insulation, waterproofing and structural strength?

The polyurethane foam core plays a key role in thermal insulation. Its extremely low thermal conductivity (0.020 – 0.030 W/m·K) cooperates with the refrigeration unit to maintain long-lasting and efficient thermal insulation.

Non-metallic materials are embedded in the panel as a frame to eliminate the problem of local heat transfer. These materials will not rot or deform, and can always keep the panel structure stable.

The panel edges are completely sealed, and even if the box sealant falls off, external rainwater or internal condensation will not enter the panel.

Aluminum Duct Floors

Different from traditional flat floors, aluminum ducts are not only a durable and high-strength floor, but also a choice to make the cold air flowing out of the refrigeration unit more evenly distributed. It allows the cold air flow to circulate quickly in the reefer box through the duct, so that every corner maintains the same temperature.

High-load-carrying Subframe

The subframe is the key load-bearing structure connecting the truck chassis and the box body. It can disperse the concentrated load to the longitudinal beams, cross beams and other parts of the chassis. FRP sheet (fiberglass reinforced plastic) is a thermoset composite material formed by the composite processing of synthetic resin and fiberglass. As a new type of material, FRP sheets have replaced traditional metal materials in many fields.
