DEATH STRANDING vvv
ds is the biggest obsession I've ever had and it seems like it's going to stay so
I looked on the web for long and never found any guide do I thought I'd make it myself
I'm going to make a full cosplay of Higgs but I'll update this post or reblog it as it goes :3c
Anyways here's how I proceeded for the cloak
So first of all : I didn't use the model from the game because it would've been to hard to remake and probably wouldn't work ;
Here's the in-game shape
It's basically a square of fabric that is held back by his Odradek, you can guess with how the hood is part of the cape
And here's my edited version
Im not an experienced cosplayer or sewer so I went for something that wouldn't move too much, by separating the hood and the cape (and made the two points symmetrical because I thought it was prettier )
In total I paid 45€ for all the fabric I used :
2×2 metres of duchess satin for the outside (it has a nice reflection effect and it's solid enough it's great!!!)
2×2 metres of simple cotton fabric for the lining
And 0.05×15 metres of golden ribbon
So first of all I made a pattern our of newspapers and adhesive tape;
I wanted it whole in order to try it on on my shoulder but half is probably enough
Measurements were 120cm for the horizontal length and for the vertical it depends on your height and how you want it (mine is 130cm and goes down to below my knees, I'm 175cm tall)
I cut the main fabric (duchess satin) to try it on and adjust as needed
Then I cut the hood shape in the main fabric (it's easy to find patterns online if you want a specific shape )
Sew both hood sides together only for the back and top of the head !!
I'll reblog to add more pictures
If it can help even 1 person then it'd be worth it
But basically: cut the hood in the lining fabric (cotton), then sew horizontal (or vertical if you want more accuracy) stripes with the golden ribbon. Then sew both sides like before with the main fabric, only the back and top of the head
You can now sew the two layers together, lining them
for this you have to sew them upside down, the side with the stripes has to be inside, facing the main fabric (outer) layer, turn it inside out once it's sewed to see if there's any mistake or to try on :)
Sew the stripes onto the inner layer (cotton fabric) of the cloak, make sure they're 5cm apart of each other (more or less depending on the width of your ribbon)
You can also glue them if you have fabric glue and the courage to use it
Line the two layers of the cloak EXCEPT THE TOP OF THE CLOAK, LEAVE IT FOR NOW (upside down like with the cloak ) then turn it inside out :)
Now sew the top side while it's like in the picture, in the right side.
Then what you'll do is ruffled, in order to have a shorter cape at the top while leaving it long enough on the sides to have it rest on your arms and cover your back.
This pic is from here , you can probably look up how to make ruffles in your own language ^^
But basically you sew a string through the top of the cape and pull on the string, until the width attains desired length (this length being the neckline of the hood)
I don't think I did it very well fjdgsgz
But the next step would be to sew the ruffles into the hood, in order to hide them a little. So line the hood to the top of the cape and start with either side then sew and boom cloak finished B)
Steps left : painting the logo on the shoulders and the inscription on top of the hood + finding a lock for the neck
