SAVE THE RS
Queremos garantir o direito da audiência pública sobre a Mina Guaíba em Porto Alegre!
Okay, so while I'm not one to usually write about this kind of stuff, I'm actually scared now.
The thing is, a huge Chinese company (that was fined four times for causing ambiental problems) wants to buy a piece of land only 20km far from Porto Alegre, the capitol of Rio Grande do Sul estate in Brazil. Now, they want to use this piece of land to create the biggest open-air coal mine in Latin America.
The problems as you may imagine, will be terrible, not only Porto Alegre's ecosystem will suffer, but the ones from the nearby cities as well, like Guaiba, Eldorado, Gravataí, Cachoeirinha, and countless more. The dangers of the coal mine go beyond the inevitable pollution of Lake Guaiba that is still of major importance for our whole state, but also to people's health, the toxic clouds that will be released from the mining will end up reaching all of our cities, causing several breathing problems and intoxication, that said in a part of the country where breathing deseases and allergies are already extremely common.
I want this to stop, but the word is still not so spread as it should be, unfortunately, the lack of information between government and these kind of huge changes and the people are still sovereign.
Please, share this if you can.
There's this blog with articles about it, it's fully in portuguese unfortunately, but it may be of extra help to the ones who are acquainted with the language.
