In your 20s, you'll feel like you're losing the race. It's important to understand that there is no race.

I think a lot of people genuinely don't understand how dangerous binding can be.
The guideline is 8 hours a day and take a non binding day once a week. That is an extremely difficult guideline for many to follow. I go to school and I am closeted. I bind 10 hours a day with a 10 minute break at the 7 hour mark. That does not include my commute. Theoretically, if you have a 30 minute commute and work from 9-5 you are binding for 9 hours. That doesn't include possible commute deviations, or Things You Have To Do or just the immense dysphoria of no wearing a binder.
There is also the guideline of no wearing a binder during exercise/reducing time during the heat. Taking off a binder during these times is not possible for many transmascs. I have many good friends who bind for 10+ hours every day and exercise in their binder because that is their only choice. Its also really fucking hot right now. Most guidelines tell you to reduce time binding.
All of these guidelines exist for a reason, to keep you safe. But people regularly break them because they need to. To not be outed as trans. (and face potential danger) To be able to function. However, this is not without consequences. I know people who have developed chronic conditions because of overbinding. People bruise ribs, break them. Many, many, man trans mascs live with chronic pain for years after they get top surgery because they just needed to bind. I already have pain due, likely, to binding.
This post is not to say binding is dangerous therefore people shouldn't bind. This post is more of a PSA or a frustration post. I guess I just want people to understand how necessary access to gender affirming surgery is. The sooner people who need it can get it, the safer they are.
Also, this post is just a general fuck you to transphobes. Like I could be safer if people were more normal about my binder and me being trans. I could be binding safer if I could say "hey, gotta take my binder off" I could be safe if people didn't ignore my pronouns and degender me the second they saw my chest a little.
I guess I also just want people to understand this transmasc experience.
