This was fun, just watching him try to figure things out. In truth Xander was likely right. Leo would probably never do such things. “You have been deemed a traitor of Nohr.”

“Elise’s death was an accident!” He yelled, unable to control his voice’s volume at that point. “She jumped in front of me before I could stop...!” But Leo wouldn’t know that, now would he? A hand went to his head, trying to shut out his own doubts. “I have done nothing against my home to deserve that!” Surely someone on the Hoshidan side would have said something about that awful accident. Corrin wouldn’t let Leo think he’d done it on purpose.

“A young man named Leo sent me… To take your life.” It wasn’t true, but he knew those words would hurt worse then a knife. “He seemed rather, furious to say the least. That his coward brother would hide away from his sins in a small village in Hoshido of all places.”

His shock returned and it hit him like a raging Nohrian horse. Leo? “That... That’s impossible! He doesn’t know... He doesn’t know I’m even alive!” Or...did he? “Even if he did he wouldn’t do that to me!” Or...would he? Xander was so confused now.

He laughed at the other’s unease. His plan had worked after all. This man, he was the one linked under the Dusk Dragon. “Prince Xander of Nohr. Did you really think you could hide away? That you could escape the demons of your past?”

With his name and title came shock. How was that possible?! His shock quickly turned to fear but he covered it with anger, glaring at the other man. He reached out to his side and gripped the hilt of a blade that was about his own sword’s size. “Who are you?! Who sent you?!” His only guess was that someone close to the Hoshidan royal family gave him away but this man looked more like he belonged in Nohr.

He turned his gaze slowly to Xander. The beast stood staring with glowing red eyes straight into the black smith’s own. He stood staring a moment before turning and walking at Xander.

His unease skyrocketed and he was suddenly glad he had weapons around him in case he needed them. He took a step back, a bit closer to the inside of his shop. “Is...Is there something wrong?”

Grima strode around the area searching for something, or more someone. The beast stopped and stood motionless in Xander’s line of sight. It was almost something out of a horror story children would tell around a fire.

Feeling a presence nearby, Xander looked up from his wok and spotted the stranger. There was something...odd about the person. The aura they gave off was almost heavy and it carried a lot of power. He started feeling uneasy so he spoke up. “Hello? Is there something I can help you with?”

Rumors had traveled around the small village that someone new had arrived. Given how small the Hoshidan village was it was probably true. However, Xander did not seek them out. He was sure, as the blacksmith, whomever would come to him eventually. And he really did not want to make himself too well known. One day as he was finishing his work he caught a glimpse of someone in a hooded jacket. It seemed the rumors were true as no one here dressed that way.

I’ve always liked how Xander reprimands Corrin for being too soft on Hoshidans even though he’s fully aware she’s from Hoshido?? The last page is more of a bonus page, because I wanted to draw the sound of Xander’s heart breaking. More royal comics to come~ (imgur mirror)

     “Perhaps had she asked I wouldn’t have.”

He sighed. “She’s not as forward as you. She asks things subtly.”

     “She did not even properly ask me in the first place.”

“So? That doesn’t mean be rude about it.”

“Persistent is the better word. She’s always been that way. And you could have at least politely turned her down.”

"What happened?!" ((Nasir!))

Wonderful. He’d been caught. “Nothing.” He stated simply, turning to hide his wound while still fixing it up. It was severe but not quite life threatening. “I’m just fine.” Xander didn’t know this man very well but even if he did he wasn’t willing to share what had happened.

     “If I may be so bold Sire, but ‘handling worse’ doesn’t exactly make you an expert like a healer. At the very least it’d be a good idea to see one in case of infection.” Spotting the hole, he assumed what happened and continued. “Especially since you never know what an enemy could’ve laced their weapon with.”

This dragon was lucky Xander wasn’t his father. He wouldn’t get away with such talk toward the King of Nohr. “It’s was not laced with anything. The Hoshidan Archers do not use poison and the poison that is used by the Ninja is fast acting. I’d have felt the affects by now. So, Nasir, as I said. I am fine.”
