Rachel bit her lip as he turned around. She had asked if he was Blake, the kind guy she ran into at the bar a few months ago, but quickly regretted that choice and just shook her head. “Nope. Sorry..”
“Oh hey! Rachel right? Long time no see!” He smiled awkwardly, hoping he hadn’t come off rude at first. Shit.
Sorry did you say something?
“Nothing else to say, you presumptuous twat?” Dane loved messing with the little ones. He loved it when they got a little mouthy, too. Nothing like a good bar brawl to liven up the night.
“N-no, sir...” He choked out, feeling the color leave his face. Great, first night in town and he’s already gonna die.
He shrugged, holding back a grin. “Well here I thought you were here to have some drinks, but I guess not.”
“Oh, jeez sorry, yeah.” He sat up in his stool, “I’ll have a shot of old fashioned please.”
“Oh stop” Fiona laughed “you sound like dad.” She ordered them a drink and then widened her eyes in shock. “You’re going to Crossroads University? Really?” It was apparent that Fiona was really happy for him. “Congratulations! What are you going to major in?”
Blake shook his head, knowing his sister was right. “Oh healing, figured I could maybe become a nurse or something...” He shrugged, “How-uh-how have you been adjusting to a new town... Nothing weird has happened right?”
Rachel just nodded. He was a customer she shouldn’t be prying into her personal life. Though, he was cute - free fries for the night was better than a listening ear she supposed. “They’re one of my favorites. Oh… um thank you.” Oh god, maybe he was just another typical guy thinking flirting with the bartender would soothe his problems. Rachel let her shoulders fall at the realization. Meeting people was difficult when your job was their distraction. Though it still didn’t stop her blush from poking out a little. The lines only worked on her if she found the person attractive and well… look at him.

Blake couldn’t help smiling just looking at her, his ears became a little red realizing how much of a fuckboy he must of sounded like. “Sorry, that was... I’m not to great talking to girls,” he confessed. He hoped that he hadn’t already ruined things with her, Rachel was just one of the prettiest girls he’s seen in awhile. And he hoped she didn’t have a boyfriend, or girlfriend, that would just make him even more embarrassed.
“I wasn’t entirely sure but thank you for confirming my suspicions just now,” he said, “I’m looking for a magic user to supply me with charms and spells, what’s your skill level like?”
“Uhh nonexistent?”
“You’re welcome.” Tucking her hair back she smiled hovering over his area. When she heard him she looked back over the smile still on her face. “It’s best with ranch if you’re in the mood for comfort food” Rachel looked at his hand and reached over lightly shaking it before dropping quickly and cleaning up a spot. “Rachel.. rough day?”

He ran a hand through his hair, “yeah,” Blake took a deep breath before putting some ketchup and ranch on his fries. “These are amazing, Rachel... Pretty name for a beautiful girl,” He gave her a small smile.
“Well I am very surprised! Let me buy you a drink. I’m not drinking because I start my first class tomorrow, but I like to come here and hang out.”
“And you’re 19! You have to be 21 to drink.” He smiled at her, knowing that she probably already drinks but wanted to believe his little sister was innocent. “Thanks, I’m only having one cause I start classes tomorrow too...”
“I can respect that but you see, when I sit with others the vampires don’t look at me quite as intently so I won’t be moving. May I buy you a drink in remorse for the trouble I am doubtlessly causing you?”
Blake’s eyes widened, “there are... Vampires?!?!” He asked, whispering the word vampires to her, not wanting any of them to overhear.
“You’re a magic user aren’t you?” he said, cutting to the chase.
Blake’s heart stopped for a moment, “N-no.. I’m just a-uh-totally normal person...” He said cautiously.
“Pft, no you wouldn’t. This place is gonna fill up soon and when that happen’s, you’ll wish you were sitting next to someone as safe as me. I’m a fantastic buffer.”
“Oh well, uh, I’m only having one quick drink so...”
Dane sat down and overheard the young man beside him talk. “You are lacking a few very important parts to be worth my time.”
Blake nodded his head. Looking over at the man next to him he could tell he was someone that he definitely didn’t want to mess with. “Yeah...” He forced a small chuckle.
She sat for a moment, wondering what to say. “But what if you need like a cab or something? Someone to help you walk out the bar if you drink too much?”
“I’m only gonna have one... But thanks.”
Rachel smiled softly at the stranger alone. He looked like he needed a pick me up. Alcohol gave the wrong idea so she grabbed some loaded fries and a bottle of ketchup and ranch to be safe. Just as she slid it over she heard him and gave a kind smile. “No problem… but it’s on the house.”

Blake smiled at the girl, she had a kind look in her eyes that he liked. “Thank you...” He replied, pulling the food a bit closer to him before grabbing a fry to try it. “They’re really good, I’m Blake, it’s nice to know there are good people in this world.” He reached his hand out to her.
“Blake!” Fiona shrieked, flopping onto him in a big hug. “What are you doing here?! Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?!”
A smile grew on his face, “Fiona, oh my God I feel like it’s been forever!” He said, squeezing his little sister in a big hug. “I just got here, I-uh wanted to surprise you.”
“I really really really wish I weren’t here right now.”

Blake was born an awkward and confused child to a normal mundane family, yet had somehow gained the ability to do magic, despite the fact that he really just wanted to be a normal guy. He kept his magic a secret from everyone, including his sister who he was extremely close to, and made it his goal in life to do everything the hard way. He went through his school as a social outcast, up until 11th grade when he finally began to fit the standard definition of a “hot guy”. After that, it seemed like his life quality only seemed to get better and better, as people tended to gravitate toward his open and kind personality. However, it soon became apparent, that the friends he thought he had were only friends with him because of his looks, and his kindness. He soon found himself taken advantage of almost perpetually, and as his senior year came to a close, that hadn’t changed. Blake still has issues of trusting too easily and falling in love instantly with people who are no good for him.
One day, he received a brochure in the mail for Crossroads University. He hadn’t remembered even showing any interest in attending college, so he gave the brochure to his sister to help her out of her funk. After she got accepted, he got a normal job as a gas station attendant, just living day to day and trying to be a regular person. However, this changed when he received a visit from a cloaked figure. The figure told him that he was a recruiter from Crossroads University, and he wanted to make sure that Blake had gotten the schools information. It was then that the cloaked man told Blake just exactly what the University was for. It was for people like him- supernatural creatures- to get a higher education without having to hide what he was.
Blake was horrified. He had just sent his all too human sister to the school! Packing up his things, he left for Crossroads that night, under the guise that he had decided to attend school with his sister. He hastily signed up for healer classes, but that isn’t important to him right now. His only concern is to keep his sister from harm, and to atone for the mistake that might cost both of them their lives.
