My once a year "out of makeup" photo session to remind myself that I am still a person underneath all of the masks. Ironically, "human woman" feels more like a costume than "grotesque monster" ever did.

I made my corset out of paper mache. It is decorated with the same design of khokhloma (Russian folk painting) that covered a wooden cookie jar I adored as a kid.

"The Mourning of a Perfectionist"

My mourning dress, handmade by me, in honor of my mother. She isn't dead, she just fucking hates me now.

My mother was a fierce seamstress who couldn't utter the words "I'm sorry", so she replaced them with clothes. "This is an apology for your childhood" she said to me as she handed me my prom dress.

Nothing was ever quite up to her standards..including me. I've never given sewing a chance because I figured I could never be as good as my mom..but since she is no longer around, maybe I can Frankenstein my own apology with this coffin dress.

I'm sorry mom didn't know what love is. You are perfect just the way you are.
